That season of The Island was fucking amazing, and should be mandatory viewing in high schools. It's worse than that clip makes it look. The men were seriously thriving, and then the producers were like "fuck, this looks bad...we need to send some of the men over to help the women" and ruined the good thing the men had going on.

Gill nets you drop down like a wall, fish get their gills or fins caught. Big nets on like a shrimp boat encircle the shrimp or fish, scoop them up from the water column. That's why you always see you video of shrimp boats bringing it over the deck and then dumping everything out usually nice and clean. Gill nets you got to untangle the fish.

I had a Vietnamese family that lived across the street from me when I was growing up in New Orleans, and I always used gill nets on their boat.

Men were having the best camping trip of their lives and the women were literally starving to death. It was hilarious. Then they moved into the dudes camp and started fucking things up. Society in a nutshell.

Dude, Vietnamese down here (I live outside of New Orleans, work in New Orleans) don't fuck around when it comes to fishing, crabbing or gathering oysters.

Other than that Rachel McAdams turned in a big performance.

Her crazy turn was pretty good acting. As Michael Douglas said a few years ago on the state of modern acting-- a lot of actors are too "brand-focused" and self-conscious to really do anything in a role. So you have to appreciate A list romance actors being willing to do this stuff. This at least delivered on an actor going outside their comfort zone.

This movie has a very dated feel in its lack of subtlety. That's for the worst (the way the main character and the executives are depicted) but also the better (it dares some pretty extreme and crazy sequences and the plot is also over the top). Still enjoyed it overall, but I am the president of my local chapter of the Rachel McAdams fan club, so take that into account.
