Shards of Dalaya Reboot (Everquest Server)

Shards of Dalaya is one of the oldest if not the old custom EMU servers. I wasn't lucky enough to play it during it's prime. However there is tons of custom content. From what I can piece together, the old server owner lost interest and that blocked further development. The devs are back and are launching a new server to continue developing on that custom content. New Server launches September 27th 2024

All the same classes you're used to but custom tweaks. All zones are customized. Goes up to level 65, but all the content is different, so while you may have some planes of power abilities, this doesn't mean you'll be fighting in the planes at all.

It was cool, it’s very much NOT eq but eq… hard for me to get over not being eq to get into it. Had a good player base though and they were always friendly to me as a noob

SoD was a good server. I played there myself until 2007. I was leading a bunch of the low level boss runs with my primary monk and secondary druid. The bosses I'm talking about were the ones with a level restriction, but I forget what they were called. It was a very good re-imagining of EQ. I remember keeping Traekoth on farm mode for a while (capping my level at 57 I think) and inviting people to fight him every week. It was good fun. My monk was a great tank against him.

Played on SoD for several years. Was a lot of fun. If this is the actual original devs I'll definitely check it out.

They have a website? Only one I see is still the old version.

I haven't found a real website for this. It seems that all the info is located on the discord server.

This version of the game is just called Dalaya. (Remove the "Shards of").

Looks like it's a mix of old and new devs and several changes

This server should be a good time but I’d put it high risk for GM-player shenanigans given that it’s mostly a bunch of old school players rebooting it so they and their friends can keep playing/updating it

Doesn't appear Wiz is involved in this and he was the driving force of the original. Not sure who is involved in this that was actually a major part of the first iteration.

Have any of these sweeping changes to the way classes and encounters work made the old good duo comps different, as someone who would like to be self-sufficient as a duo and able to do content is there anything that won't work or anything that is strongly recommended on this server

Like to push the best stuff am I going to be relegated to tank plus healer? Or would something like Sk Plus Bard be able to do most things?, or are pets strong enough to make something like mage+nec work

any logical combo like what EQ did can get you to cap, and be 'okay' at farming aa, but i cynically believe that the game wants you to play a thing that can tank well enough (tank class, or beastlord, bard. beastlord gets this special healing mode with it's pet that is shockingly good at high level and bard proccs gooder and can wear more armor than most) with a healer to do the late late late game farms. like the pit for maps, or going deeper into the ruins of the first city, or bigger lake of ill omen farms. high level xp farms often became exercizes in killing dozens of small things at once, which necesitated a tank, or ringer bard/monk that was vastly overpowered for the content.

i don't think pets at cap can tank things you want to kill to accomplish goals, at a speed that is acceptable (it'll be half dead every fight) but it's...basically okay because at level cap, once you're done with the main story...there's not a ton of things you would want to solo anyway. it becomes very raid or 'good, full group' content with very very, very very, very little things for a solo person to work on. there's not a higher end equivilent of "farming the fbss semi afk to get enough platt to buy a great thing".

that being said i'm not playing a tank or healer, i'm going to be a chanter so i'm going to piggy back on other folks doing things to get to cap and farm the things i need. my body is ready to mooch.

i encourage everyone to give it a go. it had a 'classic' feel in that there's a lot of pretty good itemization, lots of places to explore and lots of things to do compared to basically any modern mmo. or even just i guess velious era EQ.

just a few links from the old wiki. the data won't be solid but i foresee almost everything 'in' at launch:

16 raid tiers <Raid Tiers - SoDWiki>

6 man fights broken into tiers (lots are worth doing even at end game) <6-man Tiers - SoDWiki>

12 man fights: <12-man Tiers - SoDWiki>

absurdly long main quest (xp, and alignment hits. and it's a requirement to do late game content): <Main Quest - SoDWiki>

and adepts, which are level locked fights which give VERY good items which often gain xp and get gooder over many levels. very worth doing if you're in the tier and can do one, but not really worth maybe delaying growth in the long run: <Category:Adepts - SoDWiki>

you can peek over loot tables and find items that bring about strange synergies. like as an enchanter you have a reason to use powerful procs because (in the new version), you can cast a spell that makes your pet 'count as having' your weapon. so you can pummel things in an interesting way. or get a bracer that proccs a heal, and as a chanter you rapidly cast lots of benificial spells, which can then proc a group heal. just...stuff like that. lots of good itemization.

beastlords (in old version, i think it's still in?) had this thing where your pet could procc your weapon. and you could make it flurry for crazy procs. fun stuff.

this is the zone connection map. they have taken all the zone files from...i guess luclin era, and mashed them together and remixed zones. also there are less 'city zones' and some are now basically raid zones or fight zones. kaladim is full of ghosts. halfling town is full of ghosts too. freeport is undead basically:
