I'm on a timeout here in the rickshaw so I couldnt respond to you in /pol

I've been doing a lot of research to get off the Google system and there are phone customizers that can get you off the Google/Apple ecosystem for the vast majority of user experience.

This is a legit service, but I havent used it. I probably will but unfortunately my wife just got me another phone for Xmas last month so I'd be throwing away a barely used phone. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on this anyways. Adam Curry from the No Agenda podcast been talking about it on his podcast with a lot of high praise. It does use Google hardware (Pixel phones) but they do a ton of work to basically de-google it to almost nothing.

You also talked about getting off the Gmail/Google system. I was dreading that too because like yours, my gmail acct is 17 years old, I was in gmail since beta. I also work a lot in ecom so I have a fuckton of google tools, google accts, etc. so for me it was an extra PITA

Well I did the google migration just this past night and migrated all my shit out to different platforms using a variety of exports. Its all pretty easy but time consuming.

New email client: Protonmail.com - I bought their cheapest paid plan and added their cheapest paid VPN, altogether something like $112 for 1 year, $190 for 2 years. They have all the tools built out already for migrating all your email from Gmail directly into their web client. Felt it was worth the price, otherwise might think its too pricey. Connecting Gmail to Proton and begin the export/import took me 5 minutes, but I have a fuckton of shit so 5 hours later its still migration. 70% done. I'm looking in my Proton account and its all looking good so the tool is solid.

Plus I also have VPN now.

I replaced my Google Keep with Standard Notes | A Simple And Private Notes App Free and built on open source

I replaced my Chrome browser with Brave Browser (its built on open source chromium so basically like chrome without the google shit, theyre very privacy and security focused. Dont get Mozilla, theyre cucks. Brave has a function built to export/import all your shit out of chrome (bookmarks, history, etc. even extensions) -- took less than a minute to migrate everything from one browser to the other, it was flawlessly done. I also have Tor browser but its sometimes annoying to use. Ill probably bounce between the two.

I changed default search engine got changed to DuckDuckGo

As far as everything else in Google, use Google Takeout Sign in - Google Accounts to export your ENTIRE account into zip files. Turns out my account was using 55 Google services and my export was north of 20 GBs, i got my files from various Gdrive accts, photos, emails, text messages, keep notes, all kinds of shit, i even got shit i didnt even know they had on me.

I would go through your entire Google acct here Sign in - Google Accounts afterwards and delete out all the search histories, location histories, youtube history, they have tons of data on you, just go section by section and delete anything you dont want them to have

The reason is that you might want to leave the account up for other reasons, even after you skeletonize it.

You can use the Dashboard here Sign in - Google Accounts to see exactly what Google has on you in each service and then afterwards delete what you want and dont. I for example cant delete my account because its tied to some tools I use for consulting, so I have to leave some shit up but everything personal I nuked.

Password management was easy because I use Lastpass so my browser extension was just migrated to Brave browser in 10 seconds as did my 100+ accounts/passwords. The only PITA was then going into all the separate sites for my various financial accounts, brokerage accounts, etc. to update my email to my new protonmail.com acct

I also switched my SMS default app from "Android "Messages" to Signal App, its focused on privacy and security with end to end encryption. Heard Musk talking about it the other day, checked it out, looks good

All in all, took me around 5 hours but it felt good to catch up on all that stuff and clean up all that shit.

And oh yeah, dont forget to afterwards logout all your other devices from that google acct. I found out I had like 10 devices connected. 2 phones, 2 tablets (one that I havent used in months), couple laptops, a desktop and some other shit.

oh yeah, all of that including setting up new accounts, vpn, doing exports, downloading 20 gigs of shit, updating all external websites with my new email, etc. took me less than 5 hours.

Combine that with the No Agenda phone and I think you can leave 99% of Google/Twitter/FB/Apple/whatever faggotry in the dust.

The only thing I havent replaced yet is Google Maps, I'll probably download OpenStreepMaps. It doesnt use any data at all and completely off the grid, so you wont get real time traffic updates and shit but i dont give a fuck. It basically worse like a really nice offline phone atlas from what I see

The one positive to what is going on and will continue with the big tech censorship will be the driver it creates to bring in competitive platforms of various types. Piss off 5 trolls and no one cares. Piss off 70 million and you have a customer base in search of a product.

Hey man,

Thank you for writing this. Honestly should be a sticky! Great guide to dump google. I’m absolutely going to switch to Protonmail. Just debating using my own domain or not. I did that google link and was shocked how many “services” of google I somehow was using. Like when I send a large file on gmail it saves it k a google drive. I had no idea. Can’t wait to dump google forver. But like you said I’ll keep the email address for a while to dump spam on and for anything I wasn’t able to switch over.

its a desktop app that you download and install, then it just runs in the background 24/7, bouncing your server traffic between a bunch of global servers.

so when you access furryporn.com instead of accessing directly from your IP, you go through a bunch of proxies which conceals your original IP. if furryporn.com ever gets raided, or if theres an attacked trying to intercept your request, they wont know from where or from whom the request originated. its also helps a lot if you torrent, for that exact same reason, basically it masks your entire traffic.
