I think the author wrote the first book in wing it mode, then squared up his lore for the rest of the run. The first book was short man. It was about like....the olde sharrif then the mayor mostly if i recall.

He released the first one as a short story first, then it got popular so he released more short stories in the series. Eventually the short stories were collected into 3 books.

Yea. When i read them they were all self published kindle short stories. Wool 1 was tiny. Wool 2 was like a half book.

Don't give away anything, but is the show faithful to these "short stories"? Or is it going in a different direction?

I haven't read the books, but I have a love/hate relationship with the show.

There were A LOT of things I really enjoyed and looked forward to every episode but there were nearly as many things that annoyed me and felt poorly executed. The infuriating part is that I can't put my finger on a number of the things that really bothered me.

I'd still give it an 8/10 overall.

Its fairly faithful but changes things around. Youll be shocked to learn that the black judge lady basically wasnt a character in the books.

There were some sub plots that didnt get featured in the show, but its prolly fine.

Nobody was a lesbian in the book

The book also made the "timespans" seem way longer. Like over months vs days some times. But i think tv is bad at that sort of thing

They teased something at the end of the last episode of season 2 that leads me to believe they are all in for the book's arc, including the other trilogy he wrote.

I am really trying to like this show, but 5 episodes in and I think it sucks. Juliet fighting off a grown man while hanging off the staircase certainly didn't help my immersion.

I binged the two seasons over the course of the last couple weeks and am invested enough to look forward to a season 3… but I’m really torn on whether I “like” the show or not.

Some of the Hollywood magic is hard to stomach - the episode in season 1 with the generator repair probably the worst, but Juliette wrestling men twice her size is also a bit immersion breaking. It definitely doesn’t feel like a woke/girl boss show though.

The writing for the show is horrendous. The major plot points from the book carry the show, but every - single - minor character interaction was hard to watch - particularly the filler scenes with Mechanical in season 2. Tim Robbins deserves an Oscar for pretending he was attracted to the judge. The guy playing Sims wasn’t too bad.

I tried about 7 episodes but the show just did not hold my attention. It is like Watching Fallout if nobody ever left the bunker. There might be some descent material, but after a while it just feels like pure survival with a little intrigue.

Back when I watched the first season, I told the wife (who never played the Fallout games) that I thought it might be based in the Fallout universe. I didn't realize it was based on a book when I first watched it.
