Is this game worth playing at all? Got a voucher to get the game for free and I don't know if I want to even waste my time with it.

If it's free then why not? Most of the negativity came from their massive server fuckups at launch and the retarded always-online DRM masked as multi-player. The game was still pretty fun for me when I was actually able to connect. I assume they have ironed out a lot of the bugs by now.

From what I heard they put in some kind of hack to prevent some of the residential cities from being possible.

I tried playing this the other day and found it so frigg'n boring still. The small lot of land you get to build on makes it not worth making anything.

They don't mean to open up the plots to be one city. They mean the entire region is a plot. As in every flat piece of terrain can be built upon.

And yes, there's no way that the system would scale for that.

I keep checking in to see how things are going. At this point I can't tell if the fixes are for old bugs or newly introduced ones as I don't play currently. Paid beta rolls on.

. Garbage Trucks and Recycling Trucks: Fixed an issue that some cities experienced where garbage and recycling trucks do not leave their buildings or disappeared when trading service with neighbors. Existing cities who have trucks that have disappeared will have to demolish their missing trucks' garages and plop new garages.
. Text Clarification: The "Out of Money" message now says "Can't find work" when appropriate in rollover feedback and the approval rating UI. This is to clarify your Sims' actual need.

If you go down to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise! And by woods I mean torrent sites. My favourite part was how it appears you can even download the whole game from Origin as part of the crack, talk about kicking them when they are down haha.
