Hope you don’t mindIntrinsic but I figured posting an update to this thread is better than posting in the WoT book thread as it has to do with the special edition of WoT by Dragonsteel…
…and that update is Dragonsteels bindery fucked up their special editions of Wheel of Time. Embossing quality is all over the place, some of the book block sections weren’t sewn correctly resulting in gaps, serious cracking/ripping between some pages, ect. Problems are so bad and so frequent that Dragonsteel paused both shipping of the books and the making of them until they can figure out the extent of the problems.
Not going to post a slew of pictures because there would be so many to post, but this reddit thread has a compilation. Apparently Sanderson is going to send everyone who ordered an email highlighting the issues and what they plan to do. The most common issues involve the embossing quality being shit and if you’re not aware of how it’s supposed to look, it might slip right by you.

I saw that on Instagram, glad he’s trying to do something about it. There’s such a small group of businesses that actually do these things (the printing and binding) and so many presses are plagued by delays and issues.
There’s another company I buy from named Headstamp Publishing that does mostly historical firearm books that have gorgeous photography by James Rupley, who I got to meet and take an MP5 armorsmith class with and is a great guy. One of their recent releases in Licensed Troubleshooter all about James Bond guns. It has been almost 2 years of waiting due to problems with their Chinese or Vietnamese whoever printer. Sounds like books are finally being shipped.
SubPress has had tons of issues with different books. Malazan is, like you know, almost a meme when it comes to issues. Doesn’t really bother me at this point. So used to waiting a year or more for some of these. Currently waiting for 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas, The Martian, and something else I’ve lost track of. Just how it seems to go.
In other news I had Assassin’s Apprentice Lettered on pre-order since last year in preparation for Res Rising. Ended up selling that with my rights to order RR for $8,500. So made a quick $5,500 off that. Will probably still try to grab a numbered Red Rising. I wanted to keep my rights but realistically was looking at $10,000 in book purchases this year with Red Rising, Mythago Wood, and Farseer Book 2, plus if they had one more release. And I just can’t commit that much to a book hobby
