Whole bunch of stuff is 4G. HSPA+, LTE, LTE+, WiMax, that hybrid WiMax/LTE that Sprint is rolling out. 4G is a very loose term used by telecoms to basically mean "better than 3G". It's essentially a marketing term and useless for any technical discussion.

It has all become a marketing term but there are still technical requirements and standards surrounding what 4G means, which I think is ITU-R and then 3GPP, IEEE 802.XX further defining technologies like LTE, LTE Advanced, WiMax etc... But for any practical consumer knowledge, no one cares!

technically we are only on 3g advanced or 3.5g technology- I think some LTE foundations have the ability to eventually reach the true 4g rating scale- but as stated above- 4g is a marketing term for anything better than "3g"

who's excited about the BlackBerry Classic launch tomorrow?!

...no one? aww come on! I want me some tool belt action yeehaw! hope Verizon carries it :p

We currently pay $179/month for 2 lines (grandfathered) on AT&T. Both smartphones. I'm not sure how anyone could get a sub $100 rate when every plan adds 30/month data for each phone line on top of whatever your basic phone plan costs.

FamilyTalk Nation 550 with Rollover $50.00
AT&T Unlimited MicroCell Calling - Shared $19.99
Family Messaging Unlimited $30.00
Unlim data for 4G LTE Smartphones w/Visual Voice Mail $30.00
National Account Discount ?$6.40

1 Additional line costs
Monthly Plan Charges $37.59
Surcharges & Fees $2.00
Government Fees & Taxes $1.73

Total Wireless Charges
$179.22

It's a big reason we are considering moving to Tmobiles $100 unlimited LTE4G for 2 lines plan. So far the test drive phone works in house but it's on 2bars/LTE in our home not 4G. Not a big deal since it works with our wireless network though and we still need to test the coverage beyond our house.
Exactly why I switched to sprint. You'd cut your bill by 75 dollars a month. Grandfathered plans just aren't worth keeping anymore.

Will there be any upcoming deals for iPhone 6's? I remember earlier you could trade in your old iphone for a free one, but I don't think that deal is still going.

If some of you on at&t want to hop on a share plan with me, don't mind paying full price for new devices and are out of contract I'd consider adding you to ours. $40 line, maybe less depending on data needs and total lines on the plan but no more than that.

I haven't paid for my cell service in a decade. I think my bill is $120 a month with unlimited data on Verizon. AT&T and Sprint are shit in my area.

I need some advice and I know next to nothing about cell phones. I had AT&T for years and years. I dumped them and got a no contract prepaid phone service when I tried to get into the local AT&T store and they refused me a chair when I was nearly paralyzed and had to use a cane. I was told it keeps customers up and looking in the store.

Anyway I had a Samsung Infuse which I found to be too large for myself. In fact I had seriously considered going back to a flip phone because I sometimes have to make a trip to the job site and like the ability to easily clip it on my belt or whatever.

So anyway what's the smallest Iphone I can look into? I know I could go look in person but I'm in the process of relocationg so I thought I would ask the pros and cons not just based on size? I do minimal texting or anything like that.

It also appears I am stuck with AT&T again from lookin at their coverage map. Suggestions?

The only reason I am looking at going back to a smart phone is a couple of professional apps that are available for both apple and android.

Well, seeing as the infuse is a 4.5" screen, the iphone 4S would be the last model that was produced with a smaller screen (3.5"). The 5 has a 4.5" screen, so that might be too big as well. IIRC, carriers usually offer the previous iphone at a steep discount and the one before that for almost nothing, so the earliest iphone you'd be likely to get if you go back to AT&T would be the 5. You could buy an unlocked 4S from someone and use it on your prepaid carrier, depending on who that is.

Can't offer much more without more info:
What carrier are you currently on and what network do they use?
Is AT&T the only network that's decent in your area?
Would you consider a phone that's not an iphone?
What features and apps do you need to have?

AT&T pretty much is the only network that would cover a lot of the areas I get into where I own what will become my 2nd home after I relocated plus other family members etc...which is why I had AT&T to begin with and they annoy me to no end.

The only features I really need is the ability to text minimally, the rest I never use to begin with. I'm rare in that I mainly use my phone only to talk on.

The only apps I use are professional apps which contain the American Institute for Steel Construction database and that is available for android or apple, and it beats carrying a 5 pound book around in the field. Same thing for a couple of speciality trig/foot/inch calculators and they are available for both.

I really have no preference for either android or apple other than I have never had an apple.

The problem I had with the infuse was by the time I put a protective case on it (an otterbox) it really didn't fit well in the jeans and made it hard to climb. I really liked the case tho because I dropped it several times from 10' or so and nothing happened to it.

Yeah actually after doing some more digging found out that there isn't any native support in android for s/mime, so importing p12 files is a bit pointless for my use case =/. There is Djigzo but ugh the only people who will tolerate that interface are tin foil hat folks. I read that samsungs email app does have suppor for it but none of the other mail apps do though. I did some fooling around with GPG/PGP today and didn't think to much of it honestly. It's an an old ass protocol and it really shows its age when configuring it.

So the charge port on my SIII just broke completely and I'm needing to upgrade my phone. I don'twantto upgrade - my SIII was fine, even for new games - but I'm gonna get a high-end phone regardless. It's either gonna be the S 5 or the IPHN6. I'm really liking what I've heard and seen from the iPhone 6 and the reviews I've read all claim that it outperforms the S5 on most performance metrics, and that's the only thing I really care about. I'll acclimate to IOS easily, but I also don't have any issues at all with Droid OS.

I know Apple gets a ton of mileage out of ostensibly dated specs, so I'm not worried about the processor or video card, but the 1GB RAM really does make me nervous. (It made Ars nervous as well). Anybody care to weight in? On the match-up as a whole or on the Iphone's RAM?

So anyone have the Iphone 6+ that can give me the run down. Looking at changing jobs here soon and I can choose between the 6+ or the 6 and I like the bigger screen phones so im leaning on the 6+. I guess i just want to know if its as good as the hype says it is?!

I do miss the one hand use on a 6 but the screen and battery life on my 6+ has been great. I watch a lot of videos on my phone and that's the reason why I got the 6+. Also viewing websites is much more pleasant on a larger display.
