I will say that contrary to my worries before the film, I do like that 'The Power Of Love' between MJ and Peter doesn't overpower the memory wipe spell; that said, I can't shake the feeling that we're getting the Alt-Gamora plotline that Gunn's separation from Marvel left on the cutting room floor.

Not my favorite spiderman movie, around middle of the pack for me, but probably one of Tom Holland's best performances. Like others said, unfortunate reboot and introduction of a hugely powerful character. Didn't care about the real antagonist and confusing main character arcs. I mostly saw this to see what it was going to contribute to Doomsday, but other than one character, didn't get much of that.

It was my favorite Spiderman thus far. This is everything Thor Love and Thunder should have been. It had just the right amount of humor, solid villain with a motivation the audience sympathizes with, and a great balance in characters and their individual stories. Touches every emotion and a lot of nods to the comics. I like where they left each character as well. This movie did more for the MCU than anything has in a while. 8/10 at least.

My wife has declared an avoidance of all things about this movie until we see it on Saturday. I don't care but I'm quasi-avoiding spoilers. I already knew about the "you know who" surprise character and casting. She did not.

Today she's watching an unrelated movie commentary video by some streamer, or only related in that it was talking about movies that have come out this year, and with no spoiler warning or anything the guy drops "Maybe the new spiderman movie is hoping to outdo these numbers by casting <person> as <character>" showing a pic.

I have never seen her so close to punching her own monitor....

Box office will be so silly this weekend. BND has 50% of screens in North America. That's just insane. No IMAX but that's really not going to matter. Early returns on the previews numbers show that it's breaking Endgame's old record for previews.

300+ this weekend seems almost certain somehow and that seems conservative.

I guess the real result of the mostly mediocre Marvel films and TV shows in the past 10ish years is that it created a huge demand for something that people actually want to see. Throw in some crossovers like DP3 and it's worth so much money.

Fun movie, nice to have a non disposable villain with a sympathetic story..
Enjoyed it, kids enjoyed it, winners all around.

Between Odyssey and Spiderman they have 90% of all multiplex screens and 100% of all Premium formats lol.

To be fair to theaters, just about everything else in July flopped hard.

Supergirl, despite having action movies to itself for multiple weeks, was rejected immediately and completely.
Moana and Minions, despite getting over $100Million each, didn't hit half of expectations.
Evil Dead Burn had a horror movie's one semi-decent weekend and was then forgotten.

Looking at the release schedule, Odyssey and Spidey will continue to get all the money until Insidious has one or two good weekends at the end of August, and will probably still be chugging along in theaters when Practical Magic 2 comes out at the end of _September_.

Zendaya is somewhat of a side character in the movies, but Tom Holland is a major figure in both the Odyssey (doubt I will ever see it) and this one. Both now major blockbusters, possibly the largest of all time.

For his age, wonder if there is any person in Hollywood now who can command a larger paycheck? Supposedly made 20-30 million for Brand New Day (with possibly more with backend percentages that he has in the movie). So if this becomes one of, in not the, largest box office successes that is some insane paychecks coming his way.

He'll get paychecks, sure, but he's doing it on the shoulders of big IP (Spiderman and Nolan). I don't know that execs will believe he can be *the* reason people see a film. Look at Uncharted, which was still a known IP (though the film had plenty of problems). Though not a flop, it underperformed to the point there probably won't be a sequel. Just not sure anyone can be a movie star like it was 80s/90s/00s.

I look forward to him being cast as Marty McFly in the Back To The Future reboot and gen Z throwing all their yuan at him.
