Really enjoyed this. I would say it's definitely the most comic booky of all the Holland Spider-man films. I almost want to say it's my favorite of the 4. Nice transition to an older Peter Parker now too. The Punisher was used well and there are some definite great action/fight scenes. Really interested in how the X-Men will be formed with how they intro'd Jean as well.
Eh. Women say shes hot, but women literally said Michelle Obama was pretty. (I know this sounds insane but really, its a widely held opinion among women). Volumes have been written on this phenomenon. They arent saying shes hot because they think shes hot.

Zendayas popularity is a creation of the same system that produces high fashion: make something to appeal to women and gay men and weak peoples need for social acceptance will do the rest.
Saw it today with the wife and kid. We all loved it, it's a really solid movie, great "villain", good performances. I liked the Holland Spiderman movies fine, but so far my favorite had been the first one (love Keaton as Vulture), I was kinda meh about 2 with Mysterio, and 3 was kinda blah if you remove the nostalgia factor from having the 3 Spideys in the film plus Doc Ock and Goblin.
This one though might be my 2nd favorite, perhaps my favorite of the 4. The action scenes were awesome, my son has been playing Spiderman on PS5 lately and the fights looked just straight out of that, but in a good way. The movie took its time to breathe a bit too, which was nice.
Really recommend it in theaters for the Spider-POV moments and the crazy angles they used during some of the web-slinging, it was pretty awesome.
First take, this is the first movie I can remember seeing since covid where the theater was honest to goodness FULL. As in people even sitting in the cheaper seats down front. And this was a 10am showing.
I honestly think it's the best of the Holland Spiderman films. I saw complaints about how it felt like "two stories in one" but to be honest most of the great Spiderman arcs have two threads, one where it's Peter's personal situation/issues and one with a bad guy to overcome. This movie , IMHO, hit that stride really well with the "I'm changing" story arc involving Peter personally and the "have to stop the big bad". A couple details, I'll spoiler for the overly sensitive....
Peter arc - Even though the movie is called Brand new Day, it was IMHO more a spin on the comics "evolve or die" arc. Done decently, only gripe is with a couple minor plot devices he uses. Banner is supposed to be a tier above Peter in terms of intellect/capabilities, yet somehow Petey home brews a micro size , more versatile, inhibitor in his apartment? Also, I get him having some tech, assuming maybe he kept ahold of a few Stark goodies, but I think his tech level might still be a tad high for "street level". The power up realization at the end was good enough and explained enough in the "balancing the mental issues and the physical ones align" direction. Enough "super feely Petey" scenes that a certain someone near me MIGHT have been crying a little.... But they're not misplaced and played well and purposefully
Main "bad guy" arc - Solid and IMHO a decent way to introduce the character. Since we see her leaving town at the end I assume the bus is heading to upstate NY, and we all know what school is up there. Peter solving the problem by being Peter instead of Spiderman was a nice touch.
Hulk - Still no real explanation to me about why we had perfectly controlled Professor Hulk in Endgame, then apparently still to some degree in She Hulk (although he had the inhibitor), and now relies on the inhibitor?
Yelena - I have not really loved the character yet, but in this movie she was honestly entertaining and serves the role she fills well. Ms Pugh needs to either hone in that accent or ditch it. (It's not RFD sounding like Nandor level bed, but not great)
Punisher - Honestly liked this iteration/feel more than the second Punisher season on netflix. Looked like Bernthal was enjoying being Frank more in this as well. Chemistry was solid between him and Holland. Wouldn't argue against more Spidey/Punisher content.
MJ & Ned - Felt inconsistent with how they handled his reveals to them. In the comics the spell worked with the mechanics that if he revealed himself "all the memories came back" which seemed to happen with the moment of realization/fistbump in the store towards the end by Ned, but then MJ pulls the "I still have no memories" card... Maybe I missed something. OTOH, if they keep that she she doesn't fall for him again it opens up the possibility of him meeting Gwen Stacy and/or Silver Fox. Both of which could be entertaining.
The "surprise" - Having Damage Control end up being the real bad guys wasn't a surprise at all to me, but the V-max bit was a nice diversion. The minute I saw he was tinkering with acquired technology/etc I knew the next step was "you should see the people we have in the human experimentation lab upstairs!" And that guy damn well oozed creepy.
One thing missing completely, which I absolutely loved... At no point did I feel like they were trying to get across.... "The MeSsAgE!"
Post credit scene is mostly useless as everybody already knows he'll be in either Doomsday/Secret Wars or both.
Saw complaints that it felt like a "cameo fest" and "too many villains" but I didn't get that feel off it. Characters who were in there all had roles and positions to play.
Saw complaints about length, but that felt fine to me.
Overall I'll give this a solid 8.5 of 10. Probably most simply enjoyable movie I've seen in a while. And the more I think about it, definitely the film in the Tom Holland series I like the most. I look forward to it hopefully roflestomping some box office numbers, and very honestly wouldn't mind seeing it outperform Doomsday.
Another sign that I liked.... At the beginning there was a short pre movie clip with Holland, essentially saying he loved making the film and thanking the audience for coming out to watch it. Definitely a complete pivot from "Treat the audience like backwards nerds who need to receive "the message""

Same here. Forgot to mention another little thing (though unrelated to the movie), but our afternoon showing had some dude dressed up as Spiderman show up during the adverts before the movie.. he went to the bottom in front of the front seats and was doing backflips and all sorts of acrobatics, clearly not just a random cosplayer. He had all the mannerisms right, really cool shit, people were clapping and cheering, the little kids were crazy.
Damn, those trailers were misleading, great fucking comic movie, oddly Keaton's is the weakest out of the 4 but thats not a bad thing. Ranking villains ect is really hard, all 4 films have had great antagonist. I thought the movie was over and never even saw The Hand, trailer really made you think they were the main villain
