I mean, yeah. Jean is crazy powerful in the late 80's and early 90's comics. Even without the Phoenix Force, she's capable of being more powerful than Xavier, which he states more than once in the comics and even cartoons.

Yeah 40 years of comics later they did a lot of stupid shit. This is her origin story. She hasn't even been to the school yet.

Her "Origin" story, along with many others, has been redone multiple times. It's not crazy to assume they would use later adaptations of it and not her 1963, mediocre character.

Like I explained earlier, her power blowing up in this movie is what's most likely going to get Xavier's attention to go and recruit her for the team he's assembling.

It almost seemed like they were going to tease Dark Phoenix in this when she was in his mind looking down the dark hallway

I'm spoilering this whole thing.

There's plenty wrong with this movie other than dragging in spots and could be 30mins shorter. Frank was very out of place in this, going head to head with the hulk and dueling roars from hulk and Frank was eyeroll inducing. The brief talk about how complex a universal inhibitor would be and then builds one in a matter of hours to be solved by the woman. They had no problem just abandoning Bruce to an asylum. Jean Grey clearly an evil bitch and after everything she did..."she's alright"... is their conclusion? Spider-Man and Frank have put people down for significantly less, yet let this bitch walk. In my opinion, there wasn't enough Spidey rage scenes either. They made fun of the Hollywood trope of "love breaks the spell" and then do the trope at the end of the movie! They never explain how they're tracking everything that happens in the city, unless it was explained on Disney+ shows, which I don't bother with at all. Which is probably why I didn't get the Spider-Man saving Frank off screen either.

I'm probably missing other details I caught during the movie and have since forgot but that's what I remember.

Did Jean Grey kill anyone besides Damage Control people? Or are you saying mind control inherently just makes her evil?

The "MJ solves the engineering problem" scene was top tier cringe. 100% right on that one. That wasnt the universal inhibitor though, it was the spiderman inhibitor with specific spiderman costume related challenges

Saw it over the weekend, terrific movie. One of my main gripes though is Yelena referring to Spider-Man's responsibilities as "small potatoes" while anything she deals with is "big potatoes" or something. Just felt shoe-horned and demeaning to make the "new" Avengers seem more important? Minor nitpick out of what I think is Holland's best Spider-Man movie, though that may be because of recency bias.

I would say it was her intention that made her evil. When she made that older man walk into traffic and get hit by the truck. She knew he could be killed and did it anyway. Sure...Sony and Disney decided to throw him in at the end of the movie to show he was ok but her intent was to kill the man. Taking a huge part of the city as hostage with intent to kill every single one of them would also firmly place her into the evil category. She even admitted that she would.

I get it, they're setting up for the whole normies are scared of mutants thing for next phase of MCU and Jean Grey and her actions would be a good catalyst for that. The point is... She controlled some people to harm them either to purposely piss off Spider-Man or to prove a point. So, yeah, both Spidey and Frank after all that bullshit just let her go. Even after Frank tried to put an anti-material slug into the bitch. It makes no sense to just chalk it up with "she's alright". After she threatened to murder thousands of civilians she had under her control at the time.

Well, she has a point. Spider-Man took on Thanos and all kinds of other big bads (including Captain America!), and She's faught the human shadow guy. Of course his are small potatoes where as hers experience is greater than everything. I mean, she's a woman. They always blow things out of perspective to suit themselves.

Oh yeah Brand New Day is definitely a sign that things are turning around for the MCU.
