They've never really pinned that down.

Kirks society was moneyless. In tng the writers admitted that was untenable, so there is some kind of pseudo money. In ds9 the writers allowed earth itself to be some post scarcity socialist paradise but yeah, everyone else in the galaxy everywhere else still uses a medium of exchange more complex than, "hey, bro!"

but you know, if star trek writers could outline a rational and practical scheme for the economy of post scarcity, they shouldn't be working for network. So I forgive them.

ToS had several references to starfleet officers getting paid. I don't think roddenberry had gone with the moneyless society idea until tng

Far easier to say no money than vaguely explain a made-up system that doesn't promote the accumulation of wealth and property. The Expanse author had the right idea about not being concerned with the details but Trek always tried a little too hard and backed themselves into a corner of impossibilities.

Something as simple as the Delta Flyer's specs being too large so it wouldn't even fit inside Voyager led to a whole lot of hand waving.

The origins of the Borg are from Starfleet. An advanced race, a tunnel through time, shenanigans with nanites. The novels really are exceptional
Had to be that with 2 spoiler tags ,, shouldn't have clicked

huh i thought you guys were kidding but apparently they really are doing a spin off Section 31 Star Trek TV show

also spoilers (but who gives a shit honestly) but apparently season 3 of Discovery takes place like 1000 years in the future, past whatever timeline season 1 started off. uh ok. guess I can't complain that Trek keeps exploring the same fucking tiny slices of time and is stuck in them forever like Star Wars, maybe that news will finally get me to finish seasons 1 and 2 of Discovery. Probably not. lol

best star trek scene of any ever ...

then this ...

and i'd put the final one when they finally get together but the youtube vids all seem dubbed with shitty love music and i've lost interest after the 7th nickelback / tim buckley remix

Oh no, a character is vaping.
maybe they're using it as someway of saying that she is sucking robot dick.

writing is all over the place, last eps picard is like "no i don't want to involve riker or geordi they would help me in a heart beat"

but he'll go ask his last former 1st officer that he got shit canned and destroyed her career

I'm just hoping the next three weeks isn't taken up with old man Picard wheezily recruiting a team to get off planet (although he has zero clue where in space he's going but that's alright because it's not a huge place out there) while we have to sit through unnecessary love scenes with hot (really not hot) Romulan minor villian sprinkled with ominous older sister moustache-twirling villainy. Did they kind of play Borderlands 3 when they wrote some of this stuff?

thats kindof retarded. what the fuck would civilization even look like that far out? it'd be unrecognizable. Heck even the 200 years from Enterprise to TNG shows a civilization and technology advancement that is too stagnant compared to reality. (yes replicators, holodecks, etc. but again, really fails to show how those would change culture.)

The shows have toyed with it before (time war in Enterprise, 29th century stuff in Voyager)

Conspiracy theories abound because of the sunglasses in the 3rd episode. Obviously it isn't the only odd detail for this week but it certainly could prove to be a plot relevant one.

Of course I had to catch this episode recently.

Caught 3rd episode of Picard. Pretty fucked up what they did with him and his first officer (?) when they cancelled the relief fleet. New ship guy seems seedy enough, new EMH doesn't hold a candle to The Doctor. Not sure I'm down with the whole "Romulans got assimilated and shit hit the fan" on the cube.

i think it was a ENH? emergency navigation hologram, he didn't seem to know what he was doing medically.

These TNG clips making me feel a marathon coming on. Def the most comfortable feel-good Star Trek.

If Roddenberry had his way he was going to cast another cowboy captain. Sometimes studio intervention isn't a bad thing.

Gene got completely corralled on the Picard casting decision. Who knows what other things the studio and creator split on? We can only speculate.

On the subject of money when your ex-Starfleet pilot says "I'm expensive" I ain't feeling the whole progressed past material wealth thing.

It's both. He has a 'crew' populated entirely by hologram versions of himself in different roles. Note that the EMH didn't have an accent while the ENH did. Gets the guy a chance to portray lots of different characters in one show.

Also shows how the anti-synthetic thing is a bit silly given that post-Voyager they have ships that are basically full holosuites in and of themselves populated with holograms to take care of shit.

To me it seems like the writers are purposely trying to be anti-TNG. Calling androids "synths". Jean Luc, "JL".
