Scifi has never been a girl's genre. Star Wars isn't even really scifi. Its a western with gun slingers vs samurai in space. Even less interesting for anyone with an innie.

Luke is a samurai in training, Han is any one of Clint Eastwoods early characters. Leia is your typical damsel in distress.

Watched the original trilogy with my kid and she loved it so we're watching the prequels.

Holy fuck, I forgot how awful they are. Any modern positive revision of them must be by people who haven't watched them in years. The first was dull but was at least carried by two people who felt like acting and had a cool villain. The love story in the second one is the worse writing I've ever seen. If I didn't know he was married and had kids, I would have been certain George Lucas never talked to a woman before. The big fight scene at the end is entirely unentertaining; the Jedi are just randomly twirling their lightsabers like a floppy dick. I know the third is thought of as the best of the three, so I hope it's at least tolerable.

I recently decided ( I can't remember the process in my mind ) to watch Phantom menace for the first time in about 20yrs.

Fuck it's bad, amazing that you could make a bad Star Wars film, getting it that wrong.

Gonna laugh when Gosling just plays the same character from Drive except this time it is an X-Wing and he still spends 75% of the movie standing around silent and grinning like a creeper.

iirc, the fight was the most experience scene in a movie ever filmed at the time. that is counting the 3-4 months planing/practice plus filming took over 3 weeks, for what ended up being around 5 mins of screen time. think it was surpassed by matrix 2's freeway chase.

I’ve long thought the overarching plot of the prequels was pretty good. But the execution was fucking terrible.
