The soft move-on from the rumored changes at Lucas Film by Disney?

It would jive with the recent rumors if more people under Lucas Film contract go on to other projects.

It's alleged that making Indiana Jones is a going away present for Kennedy-- for example.

Rian taking a sizable passion project to manage other passion projects in an executive role seems to fit.

You mean Kennedy producing the new Indiana Jones? She has been some level of producer on every one (and basically every other Spielberg movie as well), it would be more surprising if she wasn't involved. That would be actual news.

Ummmmm yeah........

So there's this guy Steven Spielberg. He's directed every Indiana Jones movie along with Kennedy pretty much.

Spielberg left the project. The gift is Disney still moving forward with it and financially backing an abandoned project with creative disputes.

Spielberg pulling out should have been the end of it. The visionary for the whole thing-- who directed every Indiana Jones movie ever.

Pulling out over "story perspective" would kill any other franchise. If Indiana sees a release under Kennedy with her name on it, it's a gift. There's no reason to do this movie without Spielberg directing.

I didn't know that, yeah, I can see it being a gift then, cause the movie shouldn't exist. Especially since they are making a Nathan Drake movie. We don't need to pass on Indy, Uncharted already will (although Sony is making it, so who knows, maybe we get 2 bad adventure movies in 2022)

Speliberg and Lucas killed this franchise with Indy 4. i mean it had already retired, but that rascally Lucas couldnt let it go. Ford needed to pay his bar tab so it happened. now there is what? no Lucas or Spielberg and they arent casting Chris Pratt as Indy? yeah, good luck with that shit.

Yeah I'm siding with Chukles on this one, what more damage could they possibly do to the franchise?

That's the point-- there's no point in this movie, yet the project is alive. Complete with trademark Kennedy musical chairs 6 years later.

In the same vein of Gareth Edwards, Ron Howard, Lord and Miller,

Development hell since 2016

And Spielberg pulls out just recently in February 2020. We're in 2021 with Harrison Ford still attached to the project at age 80 by the time anyone says action.

The original guy David Koepp who was responsible for writing a script Lucas Film wanted, was also responsible for forcing Spielberg off the project.

Koepp isn't even on the project anymore. It's another Kennedy bungle. Spielberg is a personal friend and longtime collaborator. It's a gift to produce this movie at this point given it's development history.

it could just be Spielberg doesnt want his final directing credits attached to utter shit like Indy 5. dude has been making films for 50 years. I'm sure he wants to go out with something good.

No one wants to see a new Indy movie with Harrison Ford’s corpse. Just re-cast it James Bond style

Indiana Jones ended perfectly in 1989 but Lucas, just couldn't stand his scripts were thrown away constantly by Spielberg. So he just nagged him out of existence to make indy 4.
And the result was....they nuked the fridge.

In the end, it's just fucking a corpse and telling "didn't say no so it's not rape".

Meh who cares anyway nowadays. Like a great philosopher once said
