Back when I was a kid the Worst Toy Award went to that action figure display they had. You'd have gladly taken any vehicle at all over that thing. It rated as less than an unimaginative doll house. All it did was let you rotate some of the figures from side to side and silently shamed you for putting Greedo where Princess Leia was supposed to go.



The very first version of it was even worse than that. It was all cardboard and didn't even have the pegs for holding the figures in position. The only redeeming thing about it was it came with a mail away coupon for four free action figures (which was a big deal at the time because the figures were so hard to find) and a membership in the Star Wars fan club that included a subscription to the Bantha Tracks newsletter.

the toys around the studio is absolutely fantastic, the autistic sperglord in me kept bugging out about how they were cutting the figurine boxes so you only saw the star wars logos

Just got back from watching. That was one hell of a flat story with no character chemistry / development. No. Just no. And did we really need to cgi tarkan and leia? Fuck.

It's a parody that takes some shots at some of the specific movie review shows as well as mocking those types of reviewers in general.

I only watch a couple of them with any regularity but the set, with all the toys and memorabilia everywhere, is how Jedi Council's set is laid out though you see it a lot with some of the individual reviewer's channels (as opposed to the panel shows). And the "Let's get down to brass tacks here" line is a shot at John Campea, who is a regular on the Jedi Council panel. It's a common enough catch phrase but he uses it all the time. All of the business with the mugs is a take on Screen Junkies. I don't know who the hushed, golf commentator tone they're using is in reference to but it seems like it would be something specific.

But a lot of it can be more generally applied. The stuff about as good/almost as good/better than ESB and only being able to cite the action sequences as to why they like the movie is common enough amongst many of them. And the things about only giving positive reviews to protect access to premiers and special events is really a criticism that is true of the entertainment media in general, not just the geek corner of it.

There isn't one villain just like there isn't one hero though there is one for each (Krennic and Jyn Erso) that gets more focus than the others.

Well Tarkin isn't his boss. And Vader certainly isn't Tarkin's boss. But they both have in's to the Emperor and Krennic doesn't. That's why he goes to Vader, to use him as an in and go around Tarkin (who isn't about to do Krennic any favors).

But the movie doesn't convey any of that and that's one of the areas in which it falters. They were trying to cram some GoT style political intrigue into a 2+ hour movie and that's almost impossible to do effectively. That's something they could have at least drawn the outlines of in a crawl.
