Govt intervention seems to almost universally lead to negative consequences. You left out the fact that the govt got involved in the student loan process at that same time frame.

This lead colleges and universities from being affordable, to being out of reach of 99% of the general public.

In 1995, my friend asked our boss for a $0.25 cent raise because he wanted to afford college. Boss asked him how much he needed? Cost of tuition AND books for a semester at Ole Miss was $1,500 during the summer. Tuition and books are well over $10,000+ today.

You have one demographic that was able to pay for college with part time jobs, and now you have a demographic that will take decades to pay off their degrees....all brought on by the fucking federal govt getting involved with massive programs to ensure students left with mountains of undischargeable debts.

And to exasperated the problem even more, companies began requiring degrees just to get entry level positions. Unless you are in a medical , science , engineering, and maybe law field, a degree damn sure wasn't necessary to be employed.

This was the real problem - college quickly transformed from "you should go to college to get a nice job in a field that needs a degree" to "you need to go to college because companies are starting to make a degree mandatory for any job". The companies didn't need it to be a degree with any relation to the job - they just wanted to see a degree on your resume. So as a result, you had lots of people with "useless" degrees because they were literally just doing a prerequisite for employment and chose the easiest paths possible to get a degree.

I don't know about the auto industry, but the oil industry down here had/has a drafter employment path that doesn't need a degree. It sounded like they do almost everything an engineer with a degree does. The engineers still look over and sign off on it, I think.

Dude I knew in high school went that way and is easily making 200K+ w/o a degree these days. His father was a pencil and paper drafter who transitioned to AutoCad, which lead him to bring home a copy to work on during the feast or famine crunch cycles that can be the oil industry. That, in turn, allowed the dude I knew to basically self learn 70% of what he needed to know (probably), before he turned 18.

Is that for fucking real? Diversity is neutral, it can be good, it can be bad. Diverse ideas? Great! Pick the best ones. Emphasizing identity politics diversity as a quality for your game? Shows you have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

C'mon guys. It's totally normal for Assassin's Creed Odyssey to have a load screen stating their diversity. It's not going to have any effect on the quality of games or get worse as it spreads across the industry. Just ignore it. Everything is fine.

I love how it starts: for the record. As if the problem was people were critical it wasn't diverse enough and they had to correct the record.

Yeah, we noticed the diversity... In liberal tradition they made women and BICOCs (black indigenous characters of color) fugly and stuck the oriental characters in fishing slums. And of course the leaders of the most ruthless pirate gang were sassy diverse because you know how they do.

But what about just making a good video game....? Huh??? Video game???

If they wanted diversity in the game in terms of characters that's fine, but the main issue is they didn't do enough in regards to diversity of planets in that game or the gameplay loop itself

You can make the most inclusive game in all of human history, but if the overall game is fucking boring/tedious, then you've failed as a game developer.

I mean, there honestly wasn't a lot of diversity with characters either. Yeah, the superficial elements were there, but most people were fairly dull rounded off characters that didn't stand out in any way. If it was going for a Star Trek positivity feel, they missed the mark. After a while, it all felt very sterile to me. I enjoyed the game more before I actually started heavily doing the quests but even all that wore off when you realize the depth wasn't there.

I really don't know if mods can fix this one.

Constellation were dull overall - the only person who seemed to have some personality was Barret. All of them were also inconsistent with what they say vs how they react. This combined with a snooze fest MSQ made it hard to power through it. The Terrorbeast UC quests were the most interesting thing in the game IMO, followed by pirates maybe. The colony ship vs casino planet also felt the most Fallout 3 of the bunch, since you can literally choose to nuke the ship or help them (shades of Megaton).

Once the novelty wore off and the mechanics of the game felt more hindering than helpful, I stopped playing. I was a sucker and bought the version that includes the 1st DLC (whenever that comes out), so they will probably be the next time I touch the game in the hopes it drastically alters the game

Nah. They literally believe if their DEI shit is determined to smell by the consumers, then it's society that is failing.

And to be clear, there are enough cucks and cowards that Starfield was a huge financial success, wasn't it? Made enough money and lavished with enough coerced praise they're all patting themselves on their hormone therapy induced acne covered backs.
