Starfield is definitely a game I want to like, but it just ends up disappointing me every time I've given it another chance. Especially Shattered Space. Should have been a cool bit of handcrafted content, but it ended up being the most "Skyrim in space" part of the game by far. I'll never understand why they insisted on putting so much space magic into the game instead of just going with standard sci-fi. They never even got something as simple as spacesuits right, from a realism standpoint.

I'll probably still fire it up one last time when Free Lanes/Terran Armada launches though. Mostly because Bethesda finally did one thing right and added the paid part of the update to the existing Premium edition. I do want to check out the updates to ship building though. Last time I played it (Shattered Space launch) barely anything had changed and there was basically only one "best" ship you could build, and you still had to deal with all the bullshit with ladder/door placement. I'm curious to see if adding stairs and whatever new habs/components come with the Terran ships will actually change anything.

Definitely going to setup a savegame for it using console scripts though. I will never not hate how they make you lose a companion in NG no matter what you do, and since I already know how the whole story goes, playing NG+ from the start is the only option imo. It seems like Free Lanes will make anything beyond NG+1 unimportant (especially since the starborn ship and armor are far less desirable when you'll be able to take some stuff with you from one NG to the next) if you don't care about seeing the 'weird' universe variants--which pretty much all suck and will just make you want to finish that cycle as fast as possible anyway.
I had a handful of mods installed that really made ship building a lot more fun. A couple were just other parts and stuff and I didn't use many of them but you might find a module here and there that was useful, but there was a small one that let you add a 1x1 staircase that you could stack up to like four or five times. Gives you a lot more flexibility in what stuff you want to make.

There's also another free one on the creations deal that expands Walter's ship brand, and the redone habs for those are pretty cool. There's even a storefront in New Atlantis right by the spaceport, just don't run the mod that makes the Viewport hotel a thing, they'll conflict because they're basically in the same space, but the Stroud ship deal is pretty good.

My problem is I always just gravitate towards making the same sort few types of ships. I always end up going and getting the Mantis ship and then I rebuild it, and then I make a heavier cruiser type thing with the bridge that has the staircase. My last playthrough though I kind of stayed in my little mantis frigate, but then I added my bigger cruiser to the fleet with auto turrets and stuff, and anytime I got jumped by the watchtower faction, it would warp in with a couple of other ships to help in the fight. Also having a few other ships with you for the crimson fleet storyline was pretty fun.

I tried a couple of other storyline mods that people made, but they'll screw with the game specifically for the main story because of companion issues. Watchtower I think was one of the problems even though it's really good but you need to get to the halfway point within the game before you really sort of engage that deal, but maybe there's some sort of work around.

Anyone check out the patch and free content?
Not yet since I just got done with a playthrough before this stuff was even on my radar. Watched a couple videos about it, and the consensus is that if you already enjoy the game the additional stuff is good, but if you dislike it it's probably not going to bring you back. New players might enjoy it because now the games just bigger.

It's still amazing to me that this game shipped as a loading screen simulator. Absolute incompetence.

I started the main campaign , middle of it now I think. This is unoptimized shit. I bought a condo in a place called Neon(?) I want to go back because I added all the 3d printing stations but for the fucking life of me I cannot make heads or tails out of that piece of monkey shit starmap to see where I need to go , and I've fucking been there! Who thought this was a good idea? Earlier when I ran into the starmen peeps the game crashed so hard STEAM even fucking crashed. I have zero mods (yet). Now I'm happy that street shitter laid all the people off!
Dr.Retarded Dr.Retarded , I'm still blaming you! ;)

In all honesty I never had any of those problems. Like I might get an odd crash here and there and the only time I started having any serious issues the problems were when I was doing some heavy modding, but the game always ran super smooth especially after I had a new system. There was a dicey time between maybe a couple of graphics patches where things were a little wonky but that got cleared up.

Is this worth checking out again, or should I wait for that sequel with you in it?

With the expansion and some of the mods available through the creation store or whatever the stupid thing is, there's a lot more stuff in the game, and I had a blast playing it again.

That's me though, but for whatever reason I just enjoy the game. It's the same reason some people like going back and playing Skyrim, when it came out it was fun but I honestly like this one more.

I haven't done the latest official update stuff that they just came out with a few months ago. The consensus of it though was it's good, and if you already enjoy it, makes the game even better. I figured I would just wait till maybe this Christmas sale to pick that stuff up see what else is on the mod scene to do another playthrough since I had just finished my last one right before that stuff came out not knowing it was on the horizon.

If you already own it it's definitely worth checking out again, and if you don't and want to be safe I would wait for the next big sale, but I don't think it's a waste of money, but your mileage may vary just based on your personal taste.

Thanks. I tried it back when it was on Game Pass, but I was a little put off by the lack of ground vehicles. Walking around the planet got a bit tedious after a while, but I read they added them later.

Yeah you get the little moon mobile now, and there are mods to change even that. I had a couple of months I added new random locations on planets to explore, and I think the official deal added a bunch of new stuff to along those lines.

The fleet mod that I had picked up was really cool. And had a pretty decent story and you could have I don't remember how many extra ships that would fly around with you or you can set it to where they would just warp in if you got into a battle. Some of the space battles though got pretty crazy for your fighting like 20 or 30 ships.

If you like the ship building component, it really expands that quite a bit, and the finale of that whole quest line was pretty fun. I had a couple of big battleships that I made, and then my little cruiser flagship that I piloted and used on my missions. There are lots of ship component mods available where you can really make some cool stuff, and it changes up the interiors and you can even put stairwells in now.

The game's just a lot better than want it was released, even though I didn't think it was bad then, but based on the forum response, I'm an outlier. I also don't play any of those weird weebu Japanese games and oddball indie games, but whatever, it's your time and money.

I hope they keep putting stuff out for it and the mod scene stays active, because when I go to play it again, there will be enough new stuff to run around with. I would like to see an official expansion dealing more with the starborn origins or whatever. That fleet mod that I had mentioned kind of picks up on the starborn deal with a outside faction let's trying to stop them, which all in all it was really well done by some little studio that makes mods for these types of games.

I'm enjoying this a few hours a week.

If this game had quests 50% of the quality of cyberpunk, it would be a solid 8/10. It all feels extremely generic to me, so its a 6.5/10 for me right now.

Hope DLC fixes that. If not I'll try the 100gb Star Wars mod, which seems very promising.

They need to involve Keanu for an expansion.
