So they say not a reboot but also not a continuation, which makes me think they might try a SGU style plot to divorce it from Stargate Command

All I can think of is a team gets sent through a gate and gets stranded and can’t get back to SGC for some reason. But if you have it in our galaxy or Pegasus, that’s a non-starter. So either you do an alternate timeline/dimension or send them to a random galaxy. Timeline/dimension might be easiest, but if it isn’t compelling enough then new fans won’t watch and old fans will clamor for sg1/sga tie ins
In the video up there they do specifically call out to it being an "accessible" Stargate story/world for people unfamiliar with the franchise and possibly even not big SciFi people. The more I think about this the more this indicates to me it will need to be an Earth based show to be more "grounded" or "relatable" to the real world.

Maybe we'll get the last hidden Ba'al clone and a lone surviving Asgardian needing to find a way to stay un-noticed and survive in NYC and it will be a wacky SG version of the Odd Couple.

The biggest problem is how they can recapture the magic of Richard Dean Anderson. He was so core the success of SG1 imo.
Atlantis didn't really achieve it, though Flanigan, McKay and to some degree Jason Momoa were good enough.
SGU never even came close

They're gonna show that the Ancients stole their technology from the Kangz

All those Ancient inventions? They were really invented by the Unas and the Ancients STOLE THEM ALL, then introduced Gou'ald to colonize the Unas to keep them down.

That was more or less their original pitch to Amazon - it would be mostly set on Earth and sort of explore the impact on Earth after all the Stargate program stuff is revealed. AFAIK the original pitch was rejected, so either this was a completely new pitch or they modified their original pitch.

I love me some stargate so I'll watch this. Hopefully its not trash. I would hope with Martin, Joe and Brad coming back, it will be a good show.

Citing an anonymous source with knowledge of the situation, Variety reports that executives at the studio were concerned that Gero’s take on the series “would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.”
So the new producer's attempt would not produce new fans and Amazon determined what he came up would interest no one so they declined.

Well... The problem was they didn't want a ground up reboot, but they also wanted something new and different enough to draw in new fans. Just the legacy fans weren't enough apparently. Question is how do you appeal to a "modern audience" without turning the hardcores wholly against you?

I love Stargate SG-1 (and the Stargate film), I've seen some of Atlantis and never watched Universe but I know what they're about and will watch them eventually. However, I can't really imagine another direction for this franchise..

I mean, SG-1 already used a LOT of various mythologies, then Atlantis did its own branch of that universe with a new alien threat in another galaxy unrelated to Earth mythology, and then Universe tried to explore what mystery remained : the Stargates themselves. However, it was short-lived so I suppose the only way to actually make a new series that would bring something new to the table would be to reboot Universe and continue its story to its conclusion but even then I can't really imagine what we could learn from that since the Ancients/Alterans are pretty well known by the end of the other series.

The groundbreaking info would be a series solely about the Furlings, obviously.

I'm glad Amazon cancelled this, I can't imagine that kind of show in this day and age. I'd rather watch Wormhole X-Treme.
