Probably for the best. SG1 went on for 10 seasons. What more could they do in this universe?

I think the original pitch was the SG program gets disclosed on Earth, so you have to deal with political and societal ramifications of that and you'd have a new SG team doing stuff. It wouldn't delete the prior stuff, but would sort of provide a new angle because you'd have people unfamiliar with the SG program and it would let you introduce the audience to stuff, while longtime fans would recognize it and see continuation. I can see why that might not be super compelling to a wider audience, although the classic problem you run into is the longer you go on, the harder it is to make both audiences happy.

Like I'd absolute love for them to continue Farscape, but I also understand the show ended over 20 years ago, so doing a direct continuation straight up would be a very hard sell and you'd need something that could satisfy old fans and new fans, which would be quite hard to do.

Deadline added some additional context from its own reporting, suggesting that a change in the studio’s overall strategy following executive turnovers might be the reason behind the abrupt cancellation. Stargate was picked up under Amazon MGM Studios television head Peter Friedlander, with Nick Pepper and Matt King spearheading the revival project. Pepper and King have since left the studio, and “worldbuilding and genre series” now falls under another of Friedlander’s top lieutenants, Blair Fetter, who started in February.

Amazon MGM could revisit Stargate with another showrunner — possibly someone without history with the existing franchise who would “give it a fresh perspective,” according to Deadline
AKA don't expect to hear anything for a year or two minimum while different producers come up with a pitch Amazon might actually go for

This is disappointing, they don't want to make new IPs and yet they don't want to remake old IPs if they aren't super popular already. Pretty much a endless loop of the same stuff getting remade what a boring time for TV and movies.

I loved stargate, watched the movie and SG-1 a few times, watched atlantis and universe once each. Actually, I can't remember if I watched all of universe, that was the worse one if I remember right.

Universe only got 1-2 seasons. It was made when Sci-Fi was transitioning into the syfilis channel and killing off all their actual sci-fi shows.

Sounds like the cancellation was caused by a regime change at Amazon.

I look forward to a reimagined reboot several years from now with trannies and gays running around and the evil aliens are all white men.

Saw an interesting stat that if they were all adjusted for inflation Stargate would have clocked in as the second highest grossing Star Trek motion picture, and the highest grossing ST:TNG movie.

Everyone knows the film should have been rebooted by Amazon MGM. No idea why they fucked around with a TV series reboot, when the iron was red hot for a movie when they first acquired the MGM studio.

When the series was announced it was a huge disappointment-- as a lot of people felt a movie was coming.

Universe haa few problems

1) They leaned too hard into the gritty serious sci-fi, in part because I think they were trying to attract the BSG fanbase (which had just recently ended)

2) Not many likable characters or characters lacking a strong personality. See point #1, but I think in their quest to make gritty Stargate, they over corrected and made characters too muted

They did course correct in the 2nd season: they started to lighten up, they got rid of some plot lines or characters that weren’t working, and they made more connective links to the wider SG universe (no pun intended). Syfy wasn’t willing to continue funding it though so it never got a chance to develop more

It was a real shame honestly. I didn't like it at the start, but by the end of season 2 I liked it a lot and was pretty interested in where the story was going. The cast had kind of hit their flow.

The newer audience they're desperately chasing doesn't even watch long-form sci-fi shows. They're glued to 15 second TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube shorts. So while they're busy alienating the older fans who actually kept this franchise alive for decades, they're left with nothing.

Unfortunately this isn't going away. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck revealed last year that when working for Netflix one of the guidelines they were given is you have to be able to follow the plot while being on your phone throughout the whole movie. Before they approve a script this is what the major streaming services are concerned with as a priority. Distracted half paying attention phone use has to be built into the storytelling

Oh, it'll go away when they realize no one is watching the shit. Again, they are trying to make "content" for an audience that doesn't exist.

I do admit I would love to see them make an announcement that after fan backlash they have changed up the creative team and bring him out as the new exec producer.
