It's annoying Valve didn't do the wait list like they did with the deck. I got busy at work this morning and totally forgot.

I feel the pain my friend. I wonder if the "Stealth/Shadow Drop" is to alleviate the pressure from scalpers scumlords.

I wonder how far in to the logistics procurement phase they were with the steam machines.

Given the current hardware market I expect they will just cancel the entire thing unless they already have warehouses full of hundreds of thousands of the things.

There are import filings over the last month that they've been receiving large shipments of them - however many that is.

probably closer to $1500-2k now. i was maybe gonna buy one as a portable gaming pc but smarter to just save up for next gaming pc and steam deck 2

I dont think there is any chance at all this comes in near $1500. If it does, it's dead in the water. Id imagine they still aim to get it below $999.

Valve has the luxury of their Steam money. I doubt they want to sell at a loss, but they are willing to sell whatever units they have already coming and then they can easily wait out the RAM and SSD pricing issues and sell nothing for a year or three if needed.

It's just really bad timing for Valve - They will end up selling 50k or 100K or however many they have already made with decent contract pricing, but they will leave over a 1 million customers unable to get one (or pay an absurd price), for a very long time. I know the Deck sold out, but I think they were able to ramp up production pretty quickly and after all of the per-orders were delivered, stock was consistent.

A key difference is that the Deck launched with the best IGP available at that time (or nearly so). The Steam Machine's GPU is slightly worse than an already three year old, sub-par RX 7600.

Reminds me all this tone later and no notification of in stock steam controller
I did a reservation when they went up and got one last week, they're not gonna be in stock for a while though probably to keep supply for the console but if you register you can seemingly get one after a few weeks.

I did a reservation on the controller day 2 when it was up and have not seen anything yet. Still hoping.

Last I saw on Reddit, they've fulfilled the first like 90 seconds of preorders or something.
