Amazon Studios Clock Is Ticking GIF by Amazon Prime Video

obviously no way i'm gonna buy it for myself, i have a 4070ti PC and a backup 3080 so it would be pointless. i could resell it i guess but its like 50/50 i'd get scammed on ebay and be out 1500 (common for people to "return" the item and send back a brick and ebay gives zero fucks)

You're not reading what I'm saying.

That exists right now. It's called Bazzite. You never see a single terminal from install > playing a Steam game.

SteamOS is not some revolution in Linux gaming. It's what is already available with a Valve skin on it.
I did go ahead and try to install Bazzite tonight on my gaming PC to dual boot and give it a shot. Took about 10 minutes total between downloading the ISO, writing it with Fedora Disk Writer, Installing, and logging into Steam. Even came with Steam pre-loaded. Haven’t run anything yet, but it was shockingly easy compared to a decade plus ago.

Sorry to hear about your lack of emails bro

Don't be part of the problem.

the system is healing i think, i'm seeing sold ebay listings for steam machines (512gb, controller) for $1500-1600. Valve wants to charge me $1128+taxes for it, which comes out to about $1200. $1500 ebay sale eats up $200-250 in fees plus shipping, so I'd be "risking" $1200 to make like... $50.

So yeah, people who are reselling these things are gonna be fucked since so many things go wrong, especially nowadays UPS/FedEx drivers just stealing shit that is obviously valuable, happens all the time with iphones and steam decks.

There are also 161 listings and only 36 sold listings so demand contrasted with people who "bought" with intent of just reselling is very lopsided.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if there's very limited demand for these. It offers absolutely nothing except that retarded shit someone mentioned earlier about CEC or some other retarded dumb shit

CEC is garbage. Yes, please switch to the input 3 when one of my kids docks the Switch to charge while we're watching TV on input 1. Very helpful.

It also doesn't work well / at all with receivers.

I'll just say I bought a bulk amount of 5000 series cards when they launched so I could hand them over to friends and family and then they just pay me back what I paid. I ended up with two extra 5080s that I'm still sitting on. The resale market hasn't really been hot for anything thats not a 5090. I really just want my money back, and even thats been difficult.

if you had bought $5000 of NVDA stock at the end of jan 2025 it would have been worth $8200 now. my wife is insanely lucky, she bought a lot of nvidia way back in 2018 because some cnbc dude said its a fundamental tech stock and its gone up like 5000% in her IRA (it split twice too)

i know it'll crash at some point but im not gonna be the asshole who tells her to sell before it goes up another 5000%. she did sell enough to cover the initial buy so its all riding gravy now

Yesterday: "When we said 4k @ 60 frames a second, we meant if all 60 frames are fake frames."
Today: "When we said some units will be dual ram chips and some single, we meant all will be single."
Tomorrow: "When we said performance would be identical, please forget we ever said that."

They did say a large number of games on steam would do much more than 1080. Makes sense, a lot of games on steam are very very old.

Big oof. Hardware prices making it DoA, Valve should have just cancelled it.

Right idea, wrong time(again). I feel like if they go it to around $800 they would have done well. Now.... fuck the AI ram bullshit. It's not like they could have predicted that either. This system has been in development for at least 3 years.

This has been the goal for Valve since they first mentioned Steam Machines in 2013. They just weren't willing to invest in the hardware at the time and let third parties eat the first failure.

I get for us that the Steam Machine is a let down, but think about your average non-pc gamer. To that person this is a console that gives them access to more games then they can imagine with idiot proof easy of use. My old PC is hooked up in our family room for gaming on the Big Screen. I tried to buy a Steam Machine just to make that process more seemless. Am I annoyed that I have an 800 game library and have been snubbed twice (first the controlled and now the machine)? Yes, but is probably a blessing though. Fingers crossed that the 2nd gen machine that we will see in a 1-2 years will be better and the same price or cheaper.
