Saw it tonight with the family plus another friend.
It's fun like the trailers showed, there's more story in it than I expected based on the mostly comedic trailers. The backstory for some characters is done in animé style and it's honestly pretty well done with a few cool fights in that art style.
Most of the characters get to show their special moves from the games, there's also a lot of references and quips taken straight from the games (mostly Street Fighter 2), there's a nod to Street Fighter 1 and there's a few characters from later games (Dan, mostly).
Was especially happy to see Dhalsim doing a lot of cool moves as he's a character that was completely butchered and sidelined in the 95 movie, and even in the animated movies he's usually not seen fighting.
It's just dumb fun, there's a lot of fights but most are over pretty quick, which isn't a big surprise when you have people breaking walls or launching energy attacks I imagine.
The violence level is mostly cartoony so I think it's safe for younger kids, but there's a ton of profanity and crude jokes.
There's one mid-credits scene which gives some hints about the potential sequel, and there's no post-credits scene.
Overall, if this was a generic action/fighting movie I'd probably think it's pretty silly and corny, there's moments where it feels like you're watching a live-action saturday morning cartoon, but it's a Street Fighter movie and it was clearly done with a lot of love for that franchise, a lot of attention to detail and it doesn't try to pretend it's something it's not. It's not grimdark or trying to be serious, it's funny, unserious and colorful. That's what I wanted to see, so I can't complain really.
