I never played sub zero, but I played the first one a ton. It was a fun game to solo and zone out. I don't know the story behind dei fucking up sub zero, but how can this be bad? Just give me a new zone and shuffle the recipes with some jump scares and creepy sea monsters
Its not deep. No cyclops. The sense of solitude and being stranded is replaced by virtue of a quippy main character who smuggled o to the world looking for her sister. Early on you find a companion who then engages with you in whedonian quips back and forth the whole rest of the game. The water is much shallower, the tech tree is much shallower. The writing in general is shallower. The sense of mystery surrounding the ruins is largely removed. You directly talk to more people who, much like dead space, you rarely get to. Instead of finding interesting audio logs about survivors of crashes, you get audio logs about quirky, quippy, whedonian office workers who know their job so good and everyone else is dumb. Part of it is on land, which has worse mechanics than decades old survival games.

Sub zero was basically abandoned regions from launch that coild have just been added to the origional, but they wanted to tell the story of quippy strong main character (who changed ethnicity right before launch!) And establish her as not just the best hero, buy thr most important person in existance. So much main character. Such quip.

They just don't understand what made the origional good

Yes that's sub zero. its not a projection of sunautica 2. But the little trailer gives me pause that subnaitica 2 will not be about survival, but about the cast of quirk chunguses

Oh joy. I hadn't seen body dismorphia character yet.

Man that is yet another problem with subnautica after 1. Silent protagonist was an analog neutral mask for the player. In 2 she was a sassy indian black (with corn rows if i recall) chick who wouldn't shut up. I can't even imagine what sounds that mogwai will make

you know in a world where sassy black women have the loudest voice and everyone for the most part stays quiet, this sorrt of makes sense.

Is this the story of our current times?

Its a metaphor for our times. First a chick is indian. Then black. Then she shits up the things you like.

A good sequel to Subnautica for me would be
1) Better / more realistic graphics (non cartoony) with modern lighting systems added to it. Would make exploration of the dark areas be really scary. Lean more into the unknown / depths / horror (like giant angler fish and the likes)
2) Keep the setting of a silent and invisible protagonist.
3) Bigger crafting pool and uses of items. I think Valhiem progression is done really well.
4) Larger world with more endemic life that you can also interact with. Like take ride alongs on dolphin like creatures and so on.

I have big doubts, but I want ot to be good since I liked the original so much. However gaming is like most parts of the entertainment industry now. No matter how good the base origin of the product, it needs to be twisted into something for the "modern audience", which I don't think I am part of. I think I was still in my 20s when I started getting old man reactions shaking my fist and saying "It was better before!"

Will wait and see. I always play survival games solo. The first one was really tailored to it, so the flow of crafting / exploration never really felt grindy except when I wanted to make a base bigger / better, but it wasn't needed. Once you add co-op as a standard feature, it has the risk of the balance being tailored around it as well.

A kind of a cool/fun thing that people have figured out. When EA of Subnautica 1 released on Dec 14th 2014, you can listen to the radio that a rescue operation will come in 99999 hours, which = 4166.625 days, which puts it at May 14th 2026, the release of EA for Subnautica 2.

People have to listen to loud black women enough in their daily life why would they go home and play as one?
