What you like is probably going to depend on your tastes. What is like the best 3-4 anime series in the last 20 years to watch.
I haven’t watched anything in that long. I started Attack on Titan but didn’t finish it.
And with Solo Leveling, if you like that type of OP character, give One-Punch Man a try. It's 2 seasons long, but it's a fun show. Many of the good ones require setup and characters that have development arcs. Mushoku Tensei is a really good one if you can get past him being a perv in the first episodes. It's the beginning of his character arc. Goblin Slayer is one of my favorites if i just want a straightforward story. Solo Leveling is great if you just like hype. Maybe something like Neon Genesis Evangelion or Fullmetal brotherhood would be some people's answer. The closest I get to slice of life is Freiren. Other than that there are more niche ones like Super Crooks that hit for some people.
It's just a big question.
Those are -old- series for sure, and all really good. Yet, I would never think to recommend them since they are so old. Some series the pop up for me would be:I had a similar question. Here’s a version with more specifics:
—Completed series. Either a standalone series or all seasons released.
—Original animation (generally prefer manga when it’s an option, and I’ve read a good chunk of the 30ish volume stuff that gets discussed here once the series completes)
—action-oriented.
—what I‘ve seen best to good: cowboy bebop, samurai champloo, gurren lagann, stand alone complex, Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, ergo proxy, darker than black, witch hunter robin.
—actionish movie recommendations are good too (Ninja Scroll, ghost in the shell, Sword of the Stranger, those lupin movies)
Watch Frieren, it will seem slow at first, but then you'll realize the pacing is perfect. What is like the best 3-4 anime series in the last 20 years to watch.

I think people bail on it too quick, or think its some sappy fantasy slice of life.Freiren is a crap shoot to recommend. I recommended it to 2 people i thought it was a slam duck for and they hated it. One guy i thought would hate it loved it. Maybe it just doesn't fit usual recommendation norms.
Thanks, these are all great recommendations for me... but unfortunately I've read the manga for each. Other stuff I've read would be Berserk (GOAT), Hellsing, Claymore (god-tier ending, love when stuff ends well), Death Note, Golden Kamuy, Alice in Borderland, Assassination Classroom, Solo Leveling, Blade of the Immortal, Naruto, Bleach, Hell's Paradise, and working on Tokyo Ghoul now. And Kenshin gets a special place as my gateway anime. Those are -old- series for sure, and all really good. Yet, I would never think to recommend them since they are so old. Some series the pop up for me would be:
Parasite (not super action oriented, but really good considering what you've watched)
Attack on Titan (great series, imo)
My Hero Academia (on its last season, could be seen as a bit childish, but has dark moments and death)
That sounds like a you problem. Gotta start opening your mind to some shows. Right now, I'm in the middle of a rewatch of Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny-Senpai. It's not that old, but I haven't seen it since it first came out. Now there's it + 3 movies, and the 2nd season is airing right now. The movies (in order) are Does Not Dream of Dreaming Girl, Does Not Dream of Sister Venturing Out & Does Not Dream of Knapsack Kid. Then the season out right now is Does Not Dream of Santa Clause. It's a silly show, but I enjoyed it back then and I'm enjoying the rewatch right now. One of the best things it has going for it is that the MC dude isn't a fucking pussy about women, and acts like a real person figuring things out....but anime-wise I honestly haven't picked up a new show in the better part of 2 decades.

Anyone know if Gachiakuta got delayed?
You've experienced some amazing series, kudos to you. I would honestly suggest browsing through the past few years of Seasonal anime threads we've had here. There are most likely -many- 1 season shows that we've raved about. Thanks, these are all great recommendations for me... but unfortunately I've read the manga for each. So a bit more current on my reading, but anime-wise I honestly haven't picked up a new show in the better part of 2 decades.
Correct. Frieren is an intelligence test. On one side you have people of culture and good taste.I agree but I can’t help but look down on those fools. It might end up best ever and is definitely a highlight of the past 40+ years. Everyone has flaws, and not watching Frieren is definitely a strong indicator of significant ones. Sorry Guurn, we all have stupid friends.
I can't argue with that. One of them would probably love Dress up DarlingI agree but I can’t help but look down on those fools. Definitely a me problem—I haven't been in a regular watching habit in a very long time. Hence the request for best recommendationsThat sounds like a you problem. Thanks, these are all new to me, will check them out. Here's some completed series that were pretty good:
Also all new; on the list! I do try to follow these threads a bit--It seems like the most broadly praised shows end up being adaptations, so they often end up with me reading the manga. MHA, Golden Kamuy, Attack on Titan manga reads all came from you guys loving the shows.Reading through some Top 10 lists from the past few years, show I would recommend (if you haven't read the manga):
