no. shad mother fucker.

yeah, really mixed reviews on this from the usuals. they hate the plot, like the characters more or less.
lots of "too many characters, cw plots, tone". etc.

The real question is: is it fun to watch?

I like movies that are objectively bad. I understand they aren't cinematic masterpieces. However, I like watching movies that are fun first and foremost. If your comic book movie or action movie isn't fun, then you've missed the mark imo.

For example, most movies starring either Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, JCVD, etc are usually pretty bad but really god damn fun. I also recently learned (side note) that Dolph Lundgren is hella educated in chemical engineering. 2 bachelors and a masters degree.

Just watched it.

This movie did something that hasn’t been done well (or at all) in previous Superman projects and it did it very well.

It showed he wasn’t a God. They kept his Boy Scout persona but also showed a flawed personality who seeks the same approval Lex Luthor does, but for different (and good) reasons.

Supes and Lex, in this movie, truly are the antithesis of one another and it was done very, very well.

as for the supporting cast;

Hawkgirl: Never cared for her, and she’s kind of annoying here but not in many scenes, thankfully.

Guy Gardner: I would have loved more snark from him, but Fillion did a great job with the role and I hope he’s around more for future projects.

Mr. Terrific: He was good, and a solid support role that was played well. He takes himself seriously which leads to amusing moments and his one action spot was pretty good.

I’ll refrain from saying more for now. But overall, RT style, I’d give it an 85%

He's in the 8 episode Lanterns next year which introduces Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

Fillion in this interview below... lol.... 'i have dropped more F-Bombs in Lanterns and my entire career put together' lol. Nothing else of substance in the short clip that's as long as the ad that precedes it.

I really really want Lanterns to be good. The Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan stories were one of the few things DC did as good as marvel when I actually bought comics as a kid and young teenager.

Looking back, it’s crazy how many hobbies titties and cars brought to a crashing halt.

It’s crazy how much DC fucked up their movies. You could just turn the best JL and the best Batman comics/episodes into a movie.

Luckily not all of their movies. I mean... Supergirl (1984) is a fucking masterpiece. lol
I haven’t seen it. It is actually good? I remember hearing Chris Reeve was going to be in it but they cut it due to scheduling issues.

DC crushed it with V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Man of Steel and The Dark Knight trilogy.

This was good. Die hard Superman fans have some things to critique. But fun action start to finish

No DEI bs.

As a kid who grew up on Christopher Reeves, this wasn't perfect. We didn't get Superman experiencing the pain of pulling Lois out of a car after she was caught in the earthquake. There wasn't the incredibly aw moment of Superman returns carrying the air plane down to the baseball field. Instantly, you have meta humans and they're all about on par. Instantly, you have lex hating Superman and not really understanding the why. I think a bit but character dev could have helped. The space canyon was dumb, the secret code to save the planet was on a hard drive. Why was ever girl swooning over Jimmy?

Clone Superman will probably show up as bizzaro in the next one. Martian man Hunter was awesome, hopefully he has more action in the next one. Pacemaker was hilarious.

I could see how some might think Supermans final speech was a bit dei.

And Superman and Clark were essentially the same, aside from a few shots of him walking in crowds, he acted the same regardless which outfit he was in. [\spoiler]

yes and no.

the good:
its a massive 80's encapsulation. the story is quite anti-comic book superhero action. its kind of nuts.

The bad:
its awful. just awful. the story is nuts. the fx are bad/cheap. it was pumped out too fast, under budget with constant script rewrites.

It sadly doesn't really reach the "so bad its good" territory. but it is a bit interesting in a "its for girls" sense, just to see how that played out back then. evil sorceress villain.
it won multiple razzies. it was in contention as worst superhero movie next to catwoman for years.

It also came out in 1984. the year before Crisis on Infinite earths.

Oh no. Not Oliver Harper. Who's next, Critical Drinker?
I don't really care for a critical drinker, but it's not like he's wrong on a bunch of the message stuff, but Harper is much more professional about his reviews. That's why I said I like his retrospectives older films talking about the production, who was involved, the score, etc. He's got a very particular format and it's typically unbiased and doesn't have any political BS in it, just talking about movies. Plus he's actually done some documentaries on stuff out of the '80s. Think he even did a street fighter two documentary, and you ain't an American if you didn't grow up playing that God damn arcade game as a kid.

I honestly trust his YouTube reviews more than any of the other fags like the nerdrotic guy, or anybody else that has dolls in their filming room.

Plus I'm pretty sure I could drink the critical drinker guy under the table, that's just his macho schtick. If you actually look at his avatar his bottle of Jack Daniels still has the top on. Probably get sloshed on just a few pints down in his local pub.
