thinking about it more, this has got to be an intentional L for a tax write off or something.

Other than the lex luthor casting (omg what a horrible fucking joke), what was universally known to be the #1 mistake they made last time they tried to boostrap up a DCU? After giving marvel a 10 year head start on their cinematic universe, instead of learning anything from the lessons shown or winning formula they found, they tried to play catchup by jumping immediately into a team up film without doing any of the leg work of individual character origin stories, solo movies, character and background development. They made 1 Superman movie and immediately followed it up with a team up to try and jump start justice league.

And this time they are trying to 1 up their previous failures by failing harder? It's like Gunn is trying to speedrun bankruptcy here. (Ignoring blue beetle, which i'm guessing has been quietly retconned and memory holed out of the new DCU) This is the first movie in the new Gunn-verse, correct? And what's the first thing they do? introduce every single fucking character, villain, ally, etc imaginable?

this has to be fucking money laundering. He hired a guy to mimic the worst version of lex luthor ever seen on film or television. If you wanted to be unoriginal but at least good, should have just hired Vincent D'Onofrio, kingpin suit and voice and all, to play the guy since its the same fucking character. Hell, Should of just hired the 3rd triplet in that Michael Cera/Jesse Eissenberg/Andy Samberg trifecta. If you wanted to mock the jesse essenberg choice of the previous DCU, should of just had Andy Samberg play Jake Peralta doing a Lex Luthor impersonation for the entire film.

Do people not remember Guardians of the Galaxy?

Other than the start of the movie with the walkman and oldies establishing that Chris Pratt is from Earth, and relatively recently, Gunn then throws in an endless stream of new characters / factions / locations at the viewer, which general audiences were mostly fine with.

Of course, GotG 1 may have Marvel's least developed antagonist (which is an accomplishment), AND Xandar was mostly killed offscreen to audience shrugs when Thanos showed up for their stone prior to the start of Infinity War, so its unclear that pace left any attachment with the audience for anyone other than the Guardians and maybe Yondu. I'm guessing most audience members only care about Supes, Guy (if he lives), Mister Terrific, and Krypto when they walk out of the theater.

/facepalm

comparing a solo film to a team movie, a trilogy, which took until the 2nd film to even establish any emotional stakes at all (in the main character quill, and to a lesser extend gamorra) and the 3rd film to even explain the background of and do any investment of the most popular character of the entire franchise, rocket racoon?

Three films to establish a bunch of zany throwaway characters introduced 20 films into an established cinematic universe?

Vs the first introductory film for your entire universes main character? having the main character for your entire franchise get sidelined in his own origin film by 75 fucking randoms?

Swing and a miss there. Also, "most" audience isn't going to know who the fuck anyone is except for superman, they aren't going to know shit about any of the other characters and with so many on film competing for screen time, they won't learn anything about them either.

this has all the hallmarks of "Superman is a stupid character and I hate that I have to start the DCU off with him, so let me ignore him as much as possible so i can maybe squeeze an entertaining story in here somehow"

I agree, which is why Gunn included his true muse, Nathan Fillion, as this'll be their fourth comic movie together (if you include the filmed but cut Wonder Man bits from GotG 2).

But the statement that this has to be money laundering, when the highly successful GotG1 had even more locations and characters starting from scratch, is questionable bordering on nonsensical.

Again you thinking that gotg is comparable at all to superman is ridiculous.

Superman hasn't made any money since 1978....almost half a century ago. He needs every conceivable advantage possible to not be a box office blunder.

Gunn is seemingly intentionally one upping every mistake ever made by the franchise. He would of been better off having Kevin spacey come back and reprise his role as lex luthor just to take the sex offender/cancelled stigma off himself and distract the audience into seeing it out of morbid curiosity.

The movie as presented is going to appeal to about 9 people total, 3 of whom post here.

unless batman shows up nobody gives a shit about superman.

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who doesn't think Superman and Batman should be in the same universe.. I feel it cheapens both characters. Superman because he's literally 3 seconds away from flying to Gotham City and cleaning up the place in less time than it takes Batman to put his suit on, and Batman because his gallery of rogues and villains really don't make much sense being threats in a world where Batman is buddies with Supes.

Batman works best to me as a street-level hero against "normal" villains with gimmicks or twists, very few actual supernatural abilities (beyond the tolerable mutations à la Killer Croc, Man-Bat or Clayface, the rest is pretty grounded). In the DCU films, Batman always felt to me like the billionnaire going to space with a crew of astronauts, he's only there because he paid for the ride.

I knew that Gunn was going into his new DCU with superheroes being a known commodity, but is completely different than the way the MCU went. Apparently the new continuity has the public knowing about all these super people for over 300 years. Which is why there are so many things going on in this movie. He is showing a world that is way beyond even current MCU in how the world deals and lives with these beings.

which is far truer to a comic book like reality instead of trying vainly to ground fantastical gods in a world more like ours. I dig it.

There's something about the look of this Superman actor I don't like. He kind of looks like Mexican Superman. SuperJuan.

Wrong continent. He's Jewish.

Sephardic Jews are descendants of Jewish communities that historically lived in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and their descendants who spread throughout the Mediterranean world and beyond after the Expulsion from Spain in 1492. They are distinct from Ashkenazi Jews, who originated in Central and Eastern Europe. [1, 2, 3]
Here's a more detailed look at Sephardic Jews:
  • Origins: The name "Sephardic" comes from the Hebrew word for Spain, "Sepharad". [1, 4, 5]
  • Expulsion from Spain: In 1492, all Jews were expelled from Spain by the Catholic Monarchs, and many settled in the Ottoman Empire and other Mediterranean regions. [1, 2, 5]
  • Cultural Heritage: Sephardic Jews developed a rich cultural heritage, including the Ladino language (a Judeo-Spanish dialect), unique customs, and musical traditions. [2, 3, 6, 7]
  • Geographic Dispersion: After the expulsion, Sephardic Jews migrated throughout the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East, and beyond, including North America. [1, 2]
  • Modern Identity: Sephardic Jews continue to maintain their unique traditions and cultural heritage, often through synagogues, schools, and community organizations. [1, 2, 3, 8]
  • Mizrahi Jews: Some Sephardic communities also include Mizrahi Jews, who are descendants of Jewish communities from the Middle East and North Africa. [1, 4]

I want to like this but it just looks like crap.
A lot of people, including me didn't thing Guardians would work. Gunn gets a lot of shit, but I haven't had any real problems with any of his superhero movies.

I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, but this is basically just a re-skin of Black Adam, except featuring lamer characters and zero star talent. Just a giant tangled mess of a bunch of garbage characters thrown around and probably thrown away haphazardly

You think the rock is what cooked that film? lol. shit would of done 20m WW without the Rock starring...plus pierce brosnan, plus whoever the fuck else. If the retards at DC would have listened to the rock and let them put a few cameos in like Cavill and Levy some gal gadot the film would of done even better, despite it being a shitshow.

This movie has all of the character bloat, spastic action sequences, prolly the same haphazard shallow storyline that black adam had, and none of the acting chops or star power to attract anyone, instead they have a cast of unknown faggots supporting mexican superman
