Avatar of Nyx Avatar of Nyx posted about this private server in the THJ thread:

This is a very "THJ" like version of Classic WoW (Vanilla through WOTLK) where in your singular character gains enough power creep/stat inflation to eventually solo heroic mode 25man raids.

It works via attuning items by wearing them/gaining exp, but instead of leveling the item up to crazy high legendary levels to overinflate your stats, each piece of gear you attune (that is for you, ie plate for plate wearers, etc) you basically bank 20% of the stats. instead of long grinding sessions to level up a piece of raid gear to legendary level, instead you are banking incremental stat increases from tons of drops until your base states are godlike instead.

Does not have triple classing off the rip like THJ, but it does offer dual classing after you 100% item attunes and prestige, allowing you to reset and pick 2 Classes to attune up instead.

Other than item attunements for massive stat gains it also has a pretty interesting perks system where you unlock ranks via achievement like system (kill 5 mobs in 5 seconds to unlock a perk that "grants you X upon killing something worth exp or honor..." etc, shit like that. there's tons of categories from offense, defense, utility, etc.

Also tons and tons almost overkill on QOL/ease of play features, almost all features are account wide/account unlocks instead of character, etc. ie alts will start with a ton of banked stats that carried over from your main, rep, etc. Also no need to level you can just insta unlock lvl 80. The gameplay is progression via item attunements/perk unlocks through quests>dungeons>raids. Theres also leaderboards and competitions for like best time speed running dungeons and shit.

Just hopped on to check it out, it's very much a 1 man show but very much a passionate developer working on it, it has tons and tons of custom features/QOL stuff, but it is very janky, this isn't a bunch of paid developers with sleek launchers, wikis, websites, custom addons, etc. Nah you gotta torrent a copy of 3.3.5a WoW (or use a download link on the discord) and apply the custom patch to it.

My friends and I have had a blast on this server for the past few months. Being able to live out the solo hero power fantasy has been a fantastic ride. If you try it, I recommend making a character and doing the instant level 80 thing. This gives you access to mounts and 400 in all tradeskills from the start. Then, create the character you want to play and roll from level 1. It seems like most players on this server go straight to 80 then just chase attunements, but feeling the character go from being a normal pleb in Westfall, to soloing through each expansion, and eventually all the way to Icecrown was extremely satisfying.

The perks really make the server stand out as something unique. I played a Death Knight and one of their defining perks is called Shadow Reach, which instead of acting like Death Grip and pulling an enemy to you, it allows you to latch onto something and pull yourself to that location. You are essentially Spider Man and can swing yourself all over the place. Entering Blackrock Spire and being able to swing your way up to the final boss from the entrance is awesome. It provided some really unique ways to see zones in ways you never imagined, and useful skips to getting around the terrain when youre farming specific items from specific bosses.

A few questions for the experienced players:

If I insta-level my first char to 80, can my second character start as dual class?

I'm assuming the early level dungeons (Ragefire/Deadmines) are not soloable as you wouldn't have the stats built up yet?

Is this THJ style soloable, meaning there 2 or 3 metabuilds and everything else is borderline impossible?

Dual class is kinda a carrot at the end of a veeeery long stick. To enable dual classing you have to Prestige, which imo is one of the detriments to the game. The custom classes and abilities that have been worked on are locked behind a very steep wall that few players will actually achieve. To Prestige and unlock that stuff, you gotta attune every item that your class can. Every single item. That includes world drop BoEs, dungeon drops, rare mob drops, all quest rewards, all vendor items, all crafted items, all raid drops, legendaries, pvp gear, etc. Literally anything that you can equip for your class, you have to attune. It's a months long process that really will only appeal to completionists and I kinda hate that about it. Some of the dual class stuff looks so fun, like the Dark Paladin (mixing shadow priests and paladins) but the price of entry is just a bit too much of a time investment for me these days.

You are right in that early content is tough because you havent attuned too much yet. I quested for a while and circled back to the lower instances when I was a bit higher level. Alternatively you could create a level 80 of the same class and attune a few pieces of WoTLK gear for big stat boosts that will help your lower level character over that hump.

As for meta builds, each class has a few strong builds people have discovered but the perk list is pretty massive and theres a lot of room for creativity or theorycrafting on your own. As a Death Knight, there were two really strong builds people gravitated toward, but people were always experimenting and tweaking those to their taste.

That's too bad. Then I will probably just skip this server. There are other "solo" WoW servers out there and dual-classing was really what I was interested in with this one.

Also I guess i probably should of expanded on the dual class thing my bad. Personally I like having incremental goals to build towards so having dual class as a carrot down the road is ideal for me but I can see how it would turn you off if you expect it off the rip.

This server is thj like in that the primary progression system is looting and leveling up items so you can gain more power and can take on harder content. It also has an achievement based perk system that unlocks new abilities that can be somewhat esoterically compared to AAs.

Going to give this a try. have the WoW solo itch after THJ so hoping this is fun. Any class recommendation for ease of play that’s still good for solo? I just want a chill run for nostalgia sake

You've probably picked a class by now, but Warriors, Death Knights and hunters are very strong pretty much throughout the game. All classes are viable thanks to the perk system, but some do start a little slower than others. For instance, Shadow Priests take a while to ramp up in power, but once they get some attunements under them, they are incredibly strong. Im biased but after playing a DK, i dont think i could play another class, the spider man swings are too good. Plenty of sustain as a blood spec and damage is crazy good.

Thanks. I was leaning DK after reading an earlier comment about being able to swing around. I haven’t started yet. Got the game client and pasted in the custom patch files. Wasn’t sure I did it right, but the game seemed to be working. Logged in long enough to make a throw away 80 so alts will have skills and mounts. Will roll a fresh DK to try tonight. Can they start at level 1? My throw away 80 started at, I think 55?

Dks do still start at 55. I made a Paladin to start with to level and play through zones at the appropriate level, then swapped to the DK at 50.

So I made a DK to putz around on, instaleveled it to 80 to unlock everything, realized i wanted to reuse the name so deleted the character made a druid and instaleveled that to 80 to make sure i had everything unlocked still (i think it was still unlocked i just redid the 80 just in case, and also because low lvl druid is kinda lame) and have been just running around doing quests in northrend but doing them at 80 is kind of annoying since you have to turn on low level quest tracking and they are already too easy. any way I finished all of borean tundras quests, take a look at the attune list and i'm missing like 400 items from just this one zone. All told, for druid (leather, and missing all ranged weapons, swords, and axes) i've still got 9273 items to unlock to prestige, I am 1.03% of the way done lol.

Now having a better understanding of the game I would second Nyx's suggestion.

Your first character make a place holder character you dont give a shit about, insta level to 80 to unlock all the account feature stuff like mounts and tradeskills and shit. And then make a level 1 character of the class you want and just play it. Never thought I'd say this, but you could even turn down experience rate or even turn it off so you don't outlevel content before you find everything, if attuning/prestige/100% is at all anything you are actually looking to do.

If your not interested in unlocking everything, then i'd still say set exp rate to like 200% or something and still just level through from 1.

i've kind of got it backwards now that my druid is 80 but i've put too much time into it so i'm not going to restart it. I am going to restart my DK from 55 and level normally, turning off exp at 60 so I can complete all the vanilla content, then level to 70 doing the same, etc.

Once I have all the dungeon and raid content and my unfound item list is down from 10k to like 1k or less then i'll worry about hunting down the open world stuff

If I understand correctly, common item stats transfer between characters. If I want to start at 1 and then swap to DK at 55, I should go pal or war since they are also plate wearers and in theory would have the most in common with a DK for perma stats correct?
I’m guessing a Paladin would be more solo friendly for zones and dungeons in my way to 55, than a warrior?

at least at northrend level the stat bonuses stack up rather quickly so you can pretty much solo from the rip I would imagine. I mean it won't be as extreme sure so like rage fire chasm and deadmines would still be hard but i'd have to imagine by mid 30s you are able to solo all the dungeon content as you come to it

Correct, if you want to swap to a DK at 55, you need to be leveling another plate class from level 1. For plate classes, you will attune chain stuff til 40, then swap to plate. Chain items with a higher recommended level than 40 wont be attunable for you any longer. Paladin is a good choice to start with, it's the class I leveled until i swapped to the DK.

One other thing about the server I didnt mention is the gamba boxes. There is no real money to spend on this game, but as a gold sink, there is a goblin in the Dalaran sewers that sells Mystery Boxes for 5k gold each. These can contain absolute garbage, or they might contain BoE mythic gear, special mounts (like the Scarab Lord bug), old Blizzcon attendance rewards like the Murloc suit, and Warps. Warps were the thing I was after when opening the boxes. There is a warp for every zone in the game, that allows you to teleport to that zone from wherever you are. If you get the same warp twice, you 'master' the warp, which allows you to set a location in that zone and the warp will take you there instead of the default warp spot, which is usually in the middle of the zone.

The server is fun and the nostalgia is real. Though, after playing EQemu’s for so long I have to say the hardest thing to get used is that “I” is for inventory damnit! Bloody “B” is for bags boomers …… grumble grumble.

Not being able by default to be able to move the UI around is bugging the shit out of me. I guess there's a mod for that I haven't looked at it to hard yet.

Anyone DM to where I can get the version needed for this. Really don't want to torrent, and the direct download link isn't working that's on the site. Thanks!

DM sent about download options.

As for the UI, there are custom mods for ui stuff on the discord, even a custom ui overhaul thing with built in attunement addons. It has a sleek look that clashed with the WoW aesthetic imo, I ended up using the old faithfuls I used back in the mid 2000s (Xperl unitframes, Bartender4, Bagnon). The mods channel in the Synastria discord has links to a lot of mods that also help the gameplay experience.
