Donald Duck and Wolverine are the Odd Couple.

Only hilarity can ensue from that combation.

Try not to take video games so seriously, part of the joy in them is the capacity for weird and out there shit like putting Marvel action heroes with Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters together.

Embrace the ridiculousness. Too much "Hurr I'm an adult I only play serious games for serious gamers like myself" up in here. I could cut myself with how edgy you are.

besides, I was only kidding in the first place like I said I've never played a kingdom hearts game before it was all an elaborate ruse that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Buying a box + a disk and waiting for a slowass optical drive to install the game is just dumb in this day and age.
I'm one of those weirdos that actually LIKES having a disc to put in my system. It only ever takes a few minutes to install the "necessary" files for any game on the PS3, and with the PS4 using the same media (Blu-Ray), I can't see that being much different. I have an 80 gig hard drive on my PS3 and it hasn't ever been filled. Granted, I delete demo's as soon as I finish with them and have only ever downloaded the free games Sony gave me after their hacking incident, but my system works great. Once I install a game from a disk, I never uninstall it and I don't have any storage issues.

I currently have about 20 PS1 games, 35 PS2 games and 25 PS3 "installed" on that 80 gig hard drive, plus the 2 free games that are digital only.

Interesting news I just saw - contrary to Amazon's "by Xmas" (Dec 31st) date - apparently at least a few sites are circulating FALL for PS4. Which in this industry means pre-black friday possibly as soon as August. (Although I highly doubt that soon)

I imagine it still means November, but interesting to see them putting a flexible date like that - perhaps we'll see it sooner than I anticipated. (I anticipated November 15 or so to be just slightly pre-BF personally)

...I don't get the allure of the Disney crap mixed with jrpg.
This message board exists because of a video game. EverQuest. That game (much like many Disney Characters from childhood) has a certain nostalgia to it. If they invented a "new" EverQuest that somehow had the exact same zone layouts of the old EQ, people would buy it and love it just for the sake of nostalgia.

That is why Disney characters mixed with Final Fantasy characters is such a big hit. People love the characters and are happy to see them in a new environment. Even more so when it's characters that aren't usually mixed together.

Think of that Smash Brothers game for Nintendo as a similar example.

You have to think of downloading a digital copy of a game not in terms of time vs installing from a disk, but in time vs. driving to the store, buying the game, driving home, and installing the game. And for those of you who order your games and have them shipped via Amazon, you still aren't going to have it at 12:01 on release day like a digital download that pre-loads before release.

I understand the collection factor, but look at Steam. People flaunt their e-peens there all the time with their game collections. People buy shitloads of games they never even intend to play just to make their collection bigger on Steam. Your average gamer is much more likely to impress people online with your digital game collection than you are likely to impress the people who rarely(or never) come to your house to play games with your physical game collection. Heck, people go nuts over xbox gamer scores and playstation trophies, collecting digital games is just another extension of that completely arbitrary digital competition.

I can't remember the last time I bought a game from a shop. It must have been a few years back.

Here in the UK, if I buy a game, it usually arrives in the morning post on release day, if not the day before, which is fine for me. My internet tops out at 4mbps, unfortunately, so downloading 50gb game is out of the question. I'll be sticking to discs for the foreseeable future.

but smash brothers is a good game.

kingdom hearts has a more stupid, and insanely convoluted story and plot then any of the Final Fantasies. Its JUST like the FF's everyone hates, but for some reason, has a fanbase.

I personally feel no attachment what so ever to my digital collections, I feel no connection to them what so ever and they don't feel like they have an intrinsic value. It all feels kinda "fake" to me really. I don't care how other people see my collections either, they are a personal thing. With my collection of console games I can touch them, pick them up, etc. They feel real and like something I own. So I will be very sad on the day that retail dies. It's not about other people, it's about me.

Also, a note on PS4 games - There is no waiting for them to install. You put the disc in and they install as you play. That's how Sony described it when they first announced it anyways.

Also, Kingdom Hearts is fucking awesome and some of you are FUDDY DUDDIES.

Sean - The link in the other thread has a intro video with a purchase from the store with an install - and it looks really quick but not technically instantaneous (although a disc read vs. online purchase should be a bit quicker).

So probably TECHNICALLY speaking it'll be a small pause on first place - less than a minute with physical media - if I was to state my personal expectation.

Trivialities regardless.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure there's some small data thing to start off. But it does fully install the entire data set on the disc as you play.

Fairly certain the Amazon date is just a placeholder and I imagine the actual release date will be within a couple weeks of the XBONE. I would be they want to get their initial shipment out far enough in advance of black friday that they give themselves enough time for the second shipment to arrive for BF (assuming it doesnt come out way before BF and then the BF shipments will be Holiday bundles with 1 or 2 games/extra controllers)

First year is almost always slow for RPGs though - seems year 2 is really when RPGs start hitting full force.

Take your negs like a fucking man. Since FoH, it has been an unspoken rule that you stfu about the negs you receive. Or not, and keep on trucking. I guess.
