Make a fancy portable mouse/keyboard setup for us computer gamers and it'd sell like crazy. Surprised no one has done this already. I'm not talking about a shitty foldout desk with a $10 wireless keyboard/mouse, but something innovative.Ok, I'll probably get my ass ripped on here for saying this but I think I'd prefer they keep KB+M off of consoles unless they can find a good solution for using them from the couch/chair (without a desk). It's just so much of a pain in the ass trying to use traditional KB+M from a couch (let alone a bed or desk chair without a desk). It's kind of nice having 99% of the people on a level playing field (controller) which actually isn't THAT bad once you're used to it.
Top of the boards against mostly controller users..? Grats on that achievement.I have the XIM for the 360, and I went from not being able to hit the side of a barn door with a controller, to back at the top of the boards at the end of a match. The XIM 360 is an all in one, and it looks like the PS3 version needs to be plugged into a laptop or desktop PC as well as the PS3 (to run the software that translates the PS3 controls into a customizable KBM signal), but not 100% on that. The 360 version works really, really well. If you want to be playing in your living room with it, be prepared to be doing some MacGyvering to get a comfortable set up in front of the big screen with a keyboard and mouse. I have a mini laptop rolling desk + my computer chair + an ottoman for my feet, in my basement man cave. Honestly though, if the PS4 had native KBM gaming, I would be jizzing my pants. Pretty sure it won't though![]()
I have one and have used it for Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360 and it's pure hilarity, completely unfair when playing as infantry. It's sketchy in vehicles since you'll have to setup a 2nd button layout (you use F1, F2, etc to cycle through layouts) since the controller buttons do different things in vehicles compared to being on foot. Once you play for a while slapping F2 when you hop in a tank is second nature as well as hitting F1 as soon as you get out (for how I have it set up anyway). Only real problem is vehicle turrets really suck with the XIM, you can't get the sensitivity high enough no matter what you do. I have a Logitech G500 and even with maxing out the sensitivity on it and maxing out the mouse DPI input on the XIM profile (for vehicles only) it's still pretty shit. Works fine for flying though, including helicopter gunner which for some reason doesn't have the same slow turret problems as ground vehicles. Unfortunately due to how the analog sticks work you can't do what a lot of people do and bind Spacebar to pitch up for jets and you're stuck using the mouse for all the movement, or better yet just grab the controller for it. The XIM has 3 USB inputs, all of which will be used -- wired controller, keyboard, mouse. It needs the wired controller to function, presumably because it mimics the KB/mouse as controller inputs and uses it that way. All in all though if you play shooters on console and don't want to hate yourself, XIM is win.Yeah, I had never heard of it before either. Does it work well, Kreugen?
Thanks for the sarcasm bro. It was meant for description, not boasting, and the XIM was also approved by Microsoft - there were plenty of times that people using only the controller schooled me as well. Why respond just to be a dickhead? Serious question.Top of the boards against mostly controller users..? Grats on that achievement.
Edit - lap desk isn't ideal for kb+m. Unless that is all you've ever used, then I feel bad for you.
Ideal no but it is better then a lot of other options. I redid my game room for a bit and had a lap desk paired with my lazy boy and it worked pretty well for "couch gaming". Went back to the tried and true desk setup cause the urge to fall asleep with the lazy boy was too much but the lap desk was a good option for that time.Top of the boards against mostly controller users..? Which would be awesome. My only concern would be the studios actually doing the coding to have any mouse able to have the dpi switched, etc, and translate to a flawless control experience. Also, Yoshi spoke about adding a kbm ui for FFXIV on the PS4. Not saying that is deffinitive confirmation or anything, but he seems to think it will be an option.
