dunno....maybe avoid to betatest the hardware ?
Oh so I guess you saw the PSN network getting shut down in 2011 for 24 days so you waited till after they sorted that out to buy a playstation? You also knew the RR on the Xbox would take years to be sorted so you waited a few years before you bought your Xbox? Oh that's right you didn't your just a hipster spouting shit.

Don't worry though I'll beta test my next gen console that I was always going to buy that comes with a WARRANTY and you can stay on the 8-9 year old console that I also happen to have feeling like a cool hipster. "But I'll be l33t on my PC!!!" We are in the console thread and my PC is top of the range also. Every where you look these days there's a hipster just hanging around saying useless shit.

PS4 was played on real PS4 units every time they've quoted thusfar.
PS4 games have been shown off on Windows based devkits, not retail units. An IGN guy tweeted about it last week.

Yeah. Where as Xbone is running on Windows 7 Professional x64 PC's.
Not all games. Forza 5, for example, was demoed on retail hardware.

Not that it matters, anyway.

First time I've seen a quote otherwise - might just be Killzone unique - they've absolutely demo'ed PS4's running games multiple times now.

The ign guy isn't actually saying that it wasn't demod on a ps4, just that HE didn't get to play it on a ps4. I can't tell if he means that or if he means the demos were all on dev kits

I'm sure based on that quote it was what they were demoing THAT game for him where ever it was. But going back through interviews - E3 was REAL PS4 units and Gamescom was as well for 100% sure. Perhaps some of the others weren't - and that's the first quote I've seen with Killzone playable, so it's quite possibly Killzone isn't ready for the hardware yet and is in PC Devkit form only ATM.

The xbox fanboy on the other board I frequent posted this today. I'll post it verbatim so all of you can enjoy it. This post makes it seem that Microsoft really pulled the wool over all of our eyes. "We told you the specs, but lol! They're much better!"

At Hot Chip 2013, Microsoft unveiled an overview of the SOC architecture powering their next generation Xbox One console. The Xbox One?s accelerated processing unit covers a die size of 363mm2 which is huge considering AMD?s flagship Tahiti chip comes with a die size of 389mm2.

Microsoft Xbox One Could Possibly Feature a Powerful Discrete GPU

We received a tip from one of our sources who work as a whole group which seemed quite fascinating to us so we thought of sharing it would our readers. For months, it has been know that Microsoft?s Xbox One features a weak graphics core compared to its competitor, the PlayStation 4. Both consoles boast impressive specs but the Sony?s console with faster graphics and GDDR5 memory turns out the be the winner in terms of performance. But to our surprise, if this rumor turns out to be true, Microsoft could have the fastest gaming console to date. While i was still working on this article, i found out that misterxmedia had already covered most of the details that i recieved from the anonymous source. Do read it, since its more proof of what the Xbox One may be in reality.

What our source revealed is something that hasn?t been mentioned before or revealed by any official Microsoft representative. It all starts with the following quoted text from Venturebeat:

?Microsoft disclosed some details but left many important pieces out. Evidently, Microsoft doesn?t want to tell all of its competitors about how well designed its system is.?

Now, we summed up almost every bit of details from Hot Chip 2013 a few weeks back which can be seen below:

Xbox One Architecture and Key Features:
8 Jaguar Cores
1.31 TFlops Performance
5 Billion Transistors
32 MB ESRAM
8 GB DDR3 Memory
8 GB Flash memory
15 special purpose processors
4 Command processors (2 compute, 2 graphics)
SHAPE offloads >1 CPU core
Memory coherency between CPU cores and GPU
Audio offload processor custom designed by Microsoft - 1 CPU core worth of processing.
68 GB/sec peak bandwidth to off-chip 8GB DDR3 memory.
204 GB/s peak bandwidth to 32MB of on-die storage.

So my question is, what do we still not know regarding the Xbox One? The answer is what could possibly be a super fast discrete graphics core stacked inside the main SOC itself. I know it sounds fishy when you first hear about this and the first thing to come up in your mind are, how did anyone not notice this in the first place? or Does AMD or Microsoft have the technology to even manage something like a stacked wafer design? Well, the Xbox architecture hasn?t been in works for just recently but it has been under consideration since some time.

The technology does exist and first appeared in an AMD slide back in 2009. AMD has bet everything on their APU design and if they want to remain competitive on both x86, GPU and Compute sectors than their all-in-one SOCs are their best hope. Back in 2009, AMD revealed a slide that showcased their future potential designs for APUs, the slide starts off with a common PC setup we found these days that includes a discrete GPU and an x86 CPU. Next up is the first APU design which shows the GPU and CPU on a single die, after this we see optimization between both units which include a coherent memory structure and various other improvements which are referring to the Heterogeneous System Architecture which we would see in the next generation of APUs. The last stage is the most critical which involves exploitation of what more could be done and that is only possible through a full fusion of the CPU and GPU knowned as APD (Accelerated Processing Device).

Xbox-One-APD-dGPU-635x440.jpg

?APD refers to any cooperating collection of hardware and/or software that performs those functions and computations associated with accelerating graphics processing tasks, data parallel tasks, or nested data parallel tasks in an accelerated manner compared to conventional CPUs, conventional GPUs, software and/or combinations thereof?

According to the information, the APU fused on the Xbox One is using an W2W (wafer 2 wafer) multi-module design that allows stacking of one chip on another. The first layer wafer is dedicated to the 28nm HPM Main SOC which was revealed during Hot Chip 2013 with 8 Jaguar cores and a modified Radeon HD 6670 GPU with DX11.1 and OpenGL 3.0 support. The layer beneath it is dedicated to the stacked discrete GPU and the final wafer layer is dedicated to the 32 MB of ESRAM. In development phase, it was revealed by an insider that Microsoft Xbox One could possibly end up with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory in the stacked design in addition to the 8 GB DDR3 that is available to the system. The other information revealed by him were that the Xbox One would have a power envelope of 300W (90W for Main SOC and 95W for Discrete GPU) but during Wired?s tear down of the Xbox One, the power configuration revealed that Xbox One?s discrete GPU would be getting around 130-150W of power.

Xbox-One-Power-W2W-Stack-design-635x424.jpg

So what is this discrete GPU itself? The second wafer is supposedly a 22nm SOI design featuring 2304 to 2560 stream processors as been rumored and based off the VI architecture. VI stands for Volcanic Islands which could be another reason why the discrete GPU has been kept a secret since the new Volcanic Islands based AMD Radeon family would be officially announced during the last week of September in Hawaii. If the Xbox One GPU is possibly based on a Volcanic Islands architecture or even a Southern Islands part with around 2048 cores as the Tahiti die, then this would prove to be a massive powerhouse of graphics performance.

APU-+-DGPU.jpg

As soon as the NDA lifts on Volcanic Islands, we will know if this rumor is true or not, till then all we can do is speculate and wait for some official response. Lastly, there is one more proof mentioned by the source which is a link that redirects back to an Linkedin profileof AMD?s GPU Engineer Vinber Lei, who seems to have worked onGraphics Core IP Design Verification,APU/DGPU Xbox One,Playstation 4. Notice the mention of dGPU again?

Note ? This article is based off speculations from various parties, please take it with a grain of salt.

Update to the original: The Linkedin profile for Vinber Lei has since been removed

2. At the Hot Chips even, Microsoft showed the GPU (GPU 1 of 2 if rumors are true) This GPU uses DirectX 11.1+

3. There is a unboxing video by OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) there is something in one of the corners of the X1. The guy making the video said it's covering specs that MS doesn't want them to reveal

4. The website SemiAccurate recently published an article about the XBOX One GPU and the Hot Chips event. This is what they said. "SemiAccurate knows that there are several important sub-systems in the XBO that are not on the diagrams or in the talk but we are not sure if the 15 count includes them or not."

6. The Xbox One SOC is actually bigger than what MS said.
Source:http://misterxmedia.livejournal.com/132131.html

7. A slide from an AMD presentation, saying FUTURE TRENDS: APU+dGPU. If you don't know what an APU is, it's a term used by AMD, it includes a CPU and GPU in one. Which is what the Xbox and PS4 are using.

8. Multiple Devs saying that there will be a difference between the next gen consoles. NFS's dev, Ubisoft dev, and Titanfall dev saying that Xbox One graphics will be on par with PC graphics.
Source: Google it there are multiple ones.

So now your asking "Why can't MS just come out and say this? Well, according to an Insider, there is a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) Between AMD-INTEL and Sony (Intel is involved because Intel and AMD cross license the x86 architecture). This NDA is supposed to end on September 29th. That's when MS should start talking.

It's a great rumor, I'm not getting my hopes up, but it really seems like MS is not telling us something.

You be the judge, what do you think?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is not my article, nor my findings, nor do I have any idea whether they are true or not. But they are indeed VERY interesting. Some seem to have some merit, so I'll keep a wait-and-see approach for late September/October. Either way, I could care less, but it would be an interesting shitstorm if these rumors are true.
Enjoy.

My Xbox supporter friend tried to feed me the NDA angle too. Everytime I see him he iterates the benefits that cloud computing will give him on his console.

That pretty much looks like the extended version of "xbox will have 12 gigs of ram" rumor that was going around AFTER Microsoft said there was only eight in the system. That's not to say all rumors don't come true, but do take them lightly until proven otherwise. I will give that person credit for putting a whole lot of work into that rumor. I hope someone brought him a chocolate milk for all that.

I do find it funny the one thing that was never a rumor but completely surprised everyone was the 8 gig SSD that was introduced in the Hot Chips presentation for the xbox one. It just comes to show that no one, outside of the company making them, know fuck all about the consoles being released. Hell, I read a rumor that Sony double the speed of the PS4 to combat the rumor of the Xbox rumor about a second GPU rumor.

Fuck it, I'm starting a Sony buying Nintendo rumor, Microsoft buying Atlus rumor, and Nintendo giving out free handjobs with a WiiU purchase.

There's more on his twitter.

Not that it really matters, of course. I have zero doubts that Sony (and Microsoft, for that matter) have fully working retail units running code somewhere in the world.

He's starting to sound clueless with that, how did this guy get a job with IGN? They've stated that Remote Play is scheduled to be available "soon after launch" already with PS4 - so why would there be any expectation of it to demo three months before launch when it's likely slated for 2-3 months post-launch?

And there's been a disassemble of a unit that was played as a video presented already (in fact I thought in this thread? I've not watched too many PS4 videos that weren't in here...) that showed guts that certainly didn't look anything like any PC/laptop PC I'm familiar with.

Hell, people have seen the non-game elements of the UI and such when the OS or game crashed and the system needed to be rebooted. (unlike XBOne which crashed to Win7) I'm pretty sure this guy is just trying to fan drama to boost his views. Heck his statement just because of the architecture being SEMI-PC since it's x86 could be partially truthful while being completely misleading - since they could just be glorified PCs and perhaps they even could run Windows due to similar hardware, while actually being the final revisions of the hardware.

there are already people who work in marketing units around the world that have started to receive their retail PS4s, this is from a guy in Italy
