People are actually bitching about having to be connected to the internet once in every 24 hours? You fuckers would be frothing at the mouth on the phone with your internet provider if your shit was down that long. You wouldn't be worried about your xbone. This really only fucks service men and unibombers.

Holy shit who cares about Ram or CPU or ANYTHING at this point. It doesn't matter because developers will produce for the lowest common denominator and port the rest. You should care more about having to connect to the internet every 24 hours to even access the games you paid for, the used game/borrow game restrictions, and the outright absurdity of Microsoft at this point. Let's hope PS4 doesn't do the same. If they don't, I'll still purchase a console for this gen. If they follow suit, none of us should buy them.

Let's not smoke screen this with useless shit like MS wants people to do.
Yeah, because posting about one topic means I don't care at all about another. Shoo.

Also, another person who doesn't really understand what producing for the lowest common denominator really means in video games. The big difference in hardware is really important if you care about graphics and performance.

edit: Another thing, the once a day check doesn't really bother me because I have stable internet. I think it is stupid but oh well. What I am really concern about is having this service is an open invitation for hackers to attack Xbox Live and take down the service and let the hilarity ensue. I guarantee you the Xbox Live servers will brought down at least once for an extended period of time due to hackers during the holidays.

Oh please.

It doesn't matter because Microsoft layered a ton of API/DX11 hard coded shit in their O/S. I understand fully how console games are developed and this is how it works. The arguments that matter right now is having access.

And yeah Abe, it fucks serviceman and women. That's why I actually care about it. But it also calls into question cloud servicability. This is nothing more than what Ubisoft did with always online DRM on the PC. We saw how well that worked out when Anonymous fucked their servers and no one could play the games they bought.

Completely agree.

Either way, the best coursse of action is to tell these assholes off with not purchasing it until they change it.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/793...-publish-games

Independent developers cannot self-publish their own games on Xbox Live Arcade. Instead, they must get a publishing deal--either with Microsoft Game Studios or with a third-party partner. Games published on Xbox Live Indie Games are exempt from that policy, but that marketplace isn't necessary seen as viable.

Limitations imposed by Microsoft have prevented a number of games from ever appearing on Xbox 360. And apparently, Xbox One won't change how Microsoft approaches indie games.

When asked if developers will still need a publisher to get content onto Xbox Live, Matt Booty, general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms, told us that "as of right now, yes. We intend to continue to court developers in the ways that we have."

He did add that "I would also expect that for this new generation, that we're going to continue to explore new business models and new ways of surfacing content. But Microsoft Studios is a publisher that works with a wide range of partners, as do a lot of other people, to bring digital content to the box."

When it comes to self-publishing, Microsoft is the odd man out. Both Sony and Nintendo allow developers to publish their own games onto PlayStation Network and Nintendo Network, respectively. Microsoft's position stands in stark contrast to Sony, which has been aggressively pursuing indie content for PS4.
No surprise there.

So we were standing around the new watercooler this morning at the office debating whether Microsoft should have named it "Xbone" or just "Call it Uti."

I'm more concerned about the used games block and the tv functions becoming useless if my provider doesn't play nice with MS. I'm also going to wait till I get more detailed info on both consoles and not start frothing at every rumor started on the internet. Something tells me that MS has a solution for the servicemen.

No backwards compatibility, used game restrictions, always on camera among other reasons = not getting an Xbox 1. Microsoft really screwed the pooch on this one, but I am not surprised to be honest.

MY 2C.

my first comments about the xb-1 was, damn that thing is huge!. second, looked nice for the social/media aspect switching
the once a day online bit- ok with that, i think the most my interent has been down was a day and i can use my wife's or son's phone to do a wi-fi hotspot for all of 10 minutes required to check in.

used game thing- this imo is going to be a back breaker for alot of people - UNLESS the playstation follow's suit- which as of right now they have said, that they will allow used game sales...

game linked to account only and mandatory hdd installs- KILLS gamefly and redbox game rentals for the xbox one-they flat out will not carry those games.
if the playstation allows rentals and used games- without "gamecodes/fees" then the playstation 4 will be the system of choice for most gamers that use consoles.

i have a WiiU and all my kids like it. my son Wants an xbox/ps3 but i won't get him one due to new systems coming out soon(tm)

depending on the price, he may get one of the new systems for christmas this year, but i look at the whole picture when it comes to games, how many kid friendly games does the system have, etc.

the xbox 1
not interested in music integration- so that is a wash
not interested in the tv integration- so that is a wash
not interested in kinect all that much- would love the voice commands but that is about it.
not interested in skype.
already have 6 devices that do online streaming from netflix/amazon/hulu/other channels so no need for that
etc.

games are what interests me.

from what i raid imo the xbox one will be the head platform for this gen for multiplatform games- since the architecture is similar, it should barely take any work to take the one code and port to the ps4 code, and a bit of work(or more- again no idea how hard it will be to get the wiiu ports to work well) to downres/port to get the wiiu version working correctly. say the one code is 1080p 30fps, the ps4 code should look exactly the same-and play the same- or better since the GPU hardware is stronger) saved in that base, the wiiu-provided they do a port to the wiiu (who knows at this point-some will, some won't) 720p 30pfs...

price also is a driver.

I hate DRM as much as the next person(fuck you Simcity), but I just don't see an issue with "always online", whatever that ends up meaning. Whether it's a once a day check, or an initial serial # registration to tie a game to your XBOX Live account when you first purchase it, or whatever. I live in a very medium-sized city suburb, and I probably haven't been without internet access more than a total of 10 hours in the last 10 years combined.

Now sure, fuckups can easily happen with servers on their end(Sony hacking fiasco, simcity launch, diablo 3 launch, etc), but who here is regularly without internet access of any kind for any length of time on a regular basis in this day and age?

Like someone mentioned earlier, I'm sure Sony and Microsoft don't give a rats ass about their .001% of their customers that go hiking in the woods and want to take their game system with them, but that just isn't anywhere near the norm for the vast, vast majority of customers in this day and age.

The worst issue most people will probably have to deal with in regard to "always online" is the fact that their cable/dsl modem might not be real close to their TV/Xbox, so the purchase of a wireless adapter or running of some extra cords might be necessary. Hardly a deal-breaker for most people, and most video gamers already dealt with that issue with their PS3 or XBOX 360, so it's nothing new.

Meanwhile for all we know the PS4's BC could simply be re-buying titles you stream from PSN, have similar used game restrictions, and their version of kinect ends up being required and is always on?

Personally I like the idea of not having to put a disc in the drive, wish it happened years ago with physical purchases. The ability to give the disc to a friend for them to purchase the game to play with me is pretty cool, as is the ability to delete an installed retail game and just redownload it if my license is still active. My concerns lie more with the horsepower differences between the consoles. As long as that doesn't end up actually being a huge deal before launch and whatever the DRM shakes out to be isn't super obtrusive (online checkins, whatever) they had me at HDMI passthrough. Secondary to that, the features and price of the subscriptions both consoles offer will factor in.

Microsoft has. The game activation ties to the Xbox Live profile. If you bring that game to a friend's house, you can play that game only if you log intoYOURprofile. If you leave the game at their house to play for a day or two, they will not be able to play it unless they are logged in as you, rendering anything you want to play when you leave their house inaccessible when you go back home. If your friend wants to play the game on their profile, they will have to payMSRPfor the access key to unlock the game on their profile. The access keys to physical media islockedto the profile. Not the Xbox. This means no more borrowing games to friends unless you also want to give them access to your Xbox user log in information.
I'm not defending this or anything, but is this something you actually do?

I guess it comes down to how big the market is for "hardcore" console gamers versus people who own a console and game on it casually. I know on this board and most console/gaming sites it will skew heavily toward the more hardcore.

A large portion of the time I play on a console is when the internet is down, I can fire it up and play some games. A huge portion of my games I bought used since I am not one who has to buy the latest and greatest game when it comes out when I know if I wait 6 months I can get it for much less and I still haven't missed anything.

Only time will tell.

Well I think I might just be out of this next gen. Not much the PS4 can do to convince me to buy it with their shitty controller and terrible online option.

sean, sure it will.

like i said, some Dev's WILL, some Dev's Won't, does it matter- that if a dev Chooses to make a wiiu port, they put in the time/money necessary to make it play well on that system. because it's nintendo, you buy a nintendo product for nintendo games and i generally really like the nintendo games. my son LOVES the gamepad, when playing COD:BLOPS2 he never looks at the TV when playing, hell half the time the tv is off or is on a cable channel or he is in his bedroom with the gamepad playing(the wiiu is in the living room he plays ~10 feet from the system- on the 2nd floor, on his bed.

if nintendo gets some fucking games out to spur sales. that is paramount-getting sales to pick up.

He happened to describe exactly what happens if you take current Xbox Live digital content to someone's house like a game or Rock Band DLC actually, did that a few times this gen. Since you're not on the console that owns the content, the user who purchased it has to be signed in.

I took my profile over to friends houses all the time with the XBOX 360, couldn't have been an easier process. You can save your profile info + saved games or DLC onto a USB thumb drive. Go to your friends house, plug it into his XBOX, and you're up and going with all your stuff in under a minute. When you leave just take the thumb drive back to your house and plug it into your system. We did this all the time with Rockband, I'd bring all my songs over to a friends house to combine with theirs, or vice versa. Games being tied to your personal profile is not an issue. Keep your profile on a thumbdrive that's always plugged into your machine. Pull it out and take it to a friends house along with the game disk and it's like you're using your own XBOX again at their house.

Exclusive games not ported to PC later? Definitely seems like a pointless purchase this year however, most likely better to wait for price drops and shit 2-3years from now. I'll be upgrading my PC at the end of the year but unless they have like insane games at the release I don't see myself buying a new console until end of 2014-summer2015.

As for xbox vs ps, so far I'm slightly going toward the PS4 simply because it seems to be a bit more powerful so it'll play console games better, and that's about the only notable difference for what matters to me in a console, which is games. Will reconsider depending on exclusives and shit later on.

Mostly the best thing about the new consoles is that a lot of PC games will look better because they're not limited to PS3/Xbox360 specs.
