Remember, Major Nelson (is that his real name, btw?) is the same guy who yesterday was using PR speak to make it sound like there was no fee without actually saying there was no fee.

This tweet is fluff, no content, and no promises. It's more PR speak, and you can assume that Microsoft's current plans are unchanged.

[?]DrowningSink 26 points 9 hours ago (26|0)

Major Nelson is the alias for Larry Hryb, the Program Director of Xbox Live.

[?]HamsteronA 8 points 5 hours ago (10|2)

He's the only Microsoft employee I trust when he speaks publicly. But now after the shambles that has been the last 2 days, I'm just keeping my skepticism about theXBone.

[?]Brandwins -3 points 4 hours ago (3|6)

Yea, he's probably shitting bricks. How about we start calling it the "XBegone"

I still preferxBone.

hahahahah. perfect.

seriously on tech specs though. far too early to tell. raw numbers don't always mean much.
SNES was far superior to genesis, but some obscure cache being higher allowed "blast processing" marketing.
N64 was more powerful then the ps1. but ps1 had cd roms and a higher texture cache, which allowed FMV, and allowed more detailed textures. which at the time, gave the appearance of better quality, over higher polygons.
ps3 vs xbox. again here, xbox's better shaders, allowed it to often create better lighting, which completely cover overshadowed. its weaknesses where ps3 beat it. (could be getting that backwards)
and obviously the Wii with its inferior tech specs still sold like a mofo.

Handhelds have been dominated by nintendo's and they have never been the tech winners.

Microsoft has filed for a Kinect-related patent, and it's a doozy of an application. The abstract describes a camera-based system that would monitor the number of viewers in a room and check to see if the number of occupants exceeded a certain threshold set by the content provider. If there are too many warm bodies present, the device owner would be prompted to purchase a license for a greater number of viewers.

No, really. It's that blunt. From the abstract: "The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken."

It's refreshing to see Microsoft eschewing its play-nice-with-everyone approach to business for some old-fashioned, straight-up evil. The patent's various claims can endow a device with a limited number of performances in a given period of time, a limited number of users allowed to view such performances, and the continuous monitoring of viewers during those performances. It also covers the determination of "when performance of the content to an identified user exceeds a threshold."

I thought we discussed this a while back. This is them testing things like PPV for UFC.

Cool I went through the past 3-4 pages but didn't see it being discussed so thought it might not have been posted up here yet.

I know I rarely play my 360 as it is and haven't in a long time, I really see no reason to buy the new xbox after all these just ridiculous ideas Microsoft is throwing out there. Its clear they're testing the waters to see exactly how much shit that they can shovel people will gobble up and I'm just done with it. Sucks because I really did like the original xbox back in the day.

No, we discussed it back on FoH I am pretty sure. Notice the date of Nov 6, 2012 on the article.

I didn't even think to check the date because I found that article in another thread on another forum discussing this so assumed it was new news, not ancient as hell news. My mistake.

Nintendo's exclusives have always been the key to it's success despite hardware inferiority. I don't think MS can pull the same weight.

not entirely.

for handhelds it wasnt really exclusives. which sure helped. it was largely lower tech spec=better battery life, then having cornered the market. brand loyalty.
Its been well documented for mmos at this point. and its still true for other games. you play, what your friends are playing. so a popular game/system will tend to grow exponentially.

for the wii, sure you could argue "exclusive" for Wii sports, but thats not really why wii sports made the system. wii sports is the "best selling game of all time". but people didn't go clamoring to by wiis to play it, in the sense you buy a wii to play zelda.
what it did do was perfectly showcase the motion controls in a super fun and relatable way, particularly in a group environment.

If MS has some magic game that showcases kinect 2.0, or any of that retarded extras, it could easily hit a flash point of public and media attention. never underestimate how important general news media is. and general news is not well informed. they will lash onto fads and propagate them like nobodies business.

No worse, I'm one of those PC is superior in every way (which is completely true by the way) assholes. Only reason I even own a 360 and PS3 is for RPG's and the occasional racing game. Oh and Netflix, I rather like using my 360 for it.
