You have to understand a little bit of the internal history of Microsoft to realize why they are so being so colossally stupid. The original xbox team were pretty hardcore gamers and only gave a shit about games. Over the last 10 years they have slowly moved off (other teams, other companies) and xbox has been taken over by the guys who ran webTV. Yeah, a shitty microsoft product nobody remembers that failed miserably. So pretty much now at the top of the xbox team are guys who really just want people to own a media center that Microsoft controls.

Thats why there is so much mixed messaging, thats why they don't really see why connectivity isn't a big deal, DRM, etc. They are media guys first and gamers second.

The amazing thing to me is how these fuck ups are not just isolated to one division. Microsoft has been pretty much consistently fucking up since Windows phone was first announced.

This is a company that should be an automatic buy for 96% of the world. They shouldn't be the red headed step child of technology but they are rapidly pissing away all of their advantage with stupid decisions. We should be throwing our money at them and buying all their shit. Instead we are scooping up competitors products as they continue to fuck up successful projects with their terrible "vision".

They should be dominating right now and have no one to blame but themselves.

I actually like windows phone and Win 8 /shrug but I think a lot of what I love about windows phone is mainly because of Nokias software. Kind of hard to bash WP when it typically has the highest rating out of its users

Does anyone here think that the Xbone will be hacked so you could turn it into a HTPC? I would love to be able to use it as one with motion and audio commands.

So do you actually get to own the Xbone by the way, or is that a license too?

I was the data guy and ran lines that typically were denied =P and no it wasnt messing with OpSec or anything like that. Infantry, Supply ect loved me but I dont know how often military members get hookups like that. Higher ups would be dicks and not approve requests because they're lazy assholes and so I would do it on my spare time

That interviewer can be pretty damn tough at times. He gave Reggie hell with the Nintendo interview.

Random thoughts:

At this point in time there is ZERO reason to own an Xbox One over a PS4, but i could see this changing in the future. I honestly thought that some of that TV stuff they showed was cool, and i could see people wanting it IF they can really work with cable providers, and even streaming content providers and stuff like Roku boxes to get their interface to work seamlessly with at least a majority (hell, even a list of a few but prominent providers Roku, Netflix, Hulu, TWC etc etc) of devices. But they need to actually show this working on a number of devices and REALLY show the end user how it can be used. MS is trying to sell a box with some pretty cool possibilities, but no substance right now. They really should have delayed the whole thing a year or more.

And it needs to be marketed differently. As they found out the hardcore gaming crowd does not want all that crap. They need to have an Xbox that does games, and games well, and have an add on Xbox TV that does what they showed and includes Kinnect (and maybe even a 360 processor?)

I think their biggest issue is that they built an all in one gaming and set top box but tried to market it to the hardcore gamer. I think a lot of people would be less pissed if they would have come out and said "Hey, this is for everyone, its games pretty darn well, and has some cool other stuff too" And then invited the whole Apple target audience to the first reveal instead of the gaming press. They pushed the wrong product to the wrong group.

Yeah, Geoff went after people pretty hard at E3 and really pushed Reggie especially. I'm guessing Matrick bitched out and refused to speak at all unless it was specific questions or he was on some mandate from his boss to not get in Microsoft's faces like he did everyone else's.

Ps4 and PC for games this year....
Xbox one next year if the multimedia stuff actually works and it has content I actually want.

what other products are completely fucking useless unless you have an internet connection? Even my router is useful without internet. If they got rid of the Mandatory internet, unlocked the games you purchased, and didnt force me to have a camera in my room I would have been jumping over to Xbox. I doubt it has anything to do with marketing but im sure if Steve Jobs was marketing it the shit would be flying off the shelves

Thorne - there's an entire new problem too. There's a generation that's growing up and not even watching "TV". They're streaming it to their smartphones, tablets, and laptops with shit like Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo, and other online stuff and don't even care about "TV". Hell, a lot of us older tech-inclined guys are the same way. I have not had "TV" since I was a teenager in my mom's house. The things, those people do not need the Xbone's features what so ever to access their content because they have a dozen other devices that can do it natively and if they have a big screen TV for gaming content and it's relatively new the TV itself can do all that stuff too.

Why do we need this extra box to do all that shit? Not only that, the Xbone pay-walls that stuff behind a XBLG subscription while all those devices do not. Why should we pay $500 and a subscription fee to do stuff we can already do on just about every single one of our electronic devices? Voice and gesture commands? Is that it? Well, news flash to Microsoft, that's built right into newer TVs as well.

My Roku doesn't do a damn thing without an internet connection.

you cant talk to your computer and stream ? plug in a drive and play media, are the games you get not saved ? I know I can play angry birds without a connection
