There is actually a line of Cisco home use routers that you cannot log onto unless it has a live internet connection because you use an account to log on. Worst design ever.

Random thoughts:
... They really should have delayed the whole thing a year or more.
It's pretty clear from how things went down that Microsoft was caught completely off guard by the Sony announcement and reveal. I mean, pants-on-the-ground, dick-in-hand levels of off guard. Couple that with their general corporate attitude and how badly unprepared they've been, and to me its totally reasonable that they were expecting at least another year of development before any kind of reveal.

Cisco also reserved the right to update your router at its discretion, totally spy on all your internet activity, and ban you from their service and hardware at their sole discretion. Fortunately they caved in to customer backlash and backpedaled on most of that, changing their terms of service. Not sure Microsoft will do the same, in fact if anything they'll probably double-down on their strategy.

Apparently Microsoft is hellbent on pissing off people.

Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft (sorry for the swedish and the rough translation!);

"? Vi har en produkt f?r m?nniskor som inte har tillg?ng till n?gon form av uppkoppling; den kallas Xbox 360."

"- We have a product for people who does not have access to the internet, its called an Xbox 360".

Good job!

Haha, never seen a bigger fuck you to a customer base.

Guys just wait until they reveal more content. The new generation of gamers will get an even more connected experience, more sports, more dogs, more clouds, and more TVs!

It runs amazing as a front end with Plex installed to stream all of the media from your NAS with Plex Media Server installed on it. Super cheap and you can put one on every TV in your house and stream to them all simultaneously.

WOW that's fucking horrible. I would be so pissed if I bought one and found this out while I'm trying to fix an internet issue.

Mirror's Edge was a game that I bought on sale with little expectation, and while flawed and a bit shallow, was intriguing enough that I played through it twice as well as ran the levels individually multiple times. There was something surprisingly addicting about beating your previous best time and how fluid the gameplay felt once you really got a hold of the mechanics.

So it wasn't the best game ever, a bit shallow, overrated, and the story was garbage, but I enjoyed it anyway. So if they can improve upon the original formula while making it open world at the same time, it might actually be something pretty awesome!

Thorne - there's an entire new problem too. There's a generation that's growing up and not even watching "TV". They're streaming it to their smartphones, tablets, and laptops with shit like Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo, and other online stuff and don't even care about "TV". Hell, a lot of us older tech-inclined guys are the same way. I have not had "TV" since I was a teenager in my mom's house. The things, those people do not need the Xbone's features what so ever to access their content because they have a dozen other devices that can do it natively and if they have a big screen TV for gaming content and it's relatively new the TV itself can do all that stuff too.

Why do we need this extra box to do all that shit? Not only that, the Xbone pay-walls that stuff behind a XBLG subscription while all those devices do not. Why should we pay $500 and a subscription fee to do stuff we can already do on just about every single one of our electronic devices? Voice and gesture commands? Is that it? Well, news flash to Microsoft, that's built right into newer TVs as well.
Trust me i know, i haven't had cable/satellite in over 3 years. I've got 3 Roku's, 2 360's and a PS3 that all get used for Netflix/Hulu plus other streaming content from the various devices. If i could at some point plug a Roku into an Xbone and have that seamlessly integrated with all the quick switching and connectivity of XBL i would consider paying for that. There are also a shitload of people that would never consider spending money on something like that.

I've got an ipad/iphone/laptop/desktop PC that all do streaming services of some kind, but when i am setting down to watch a movie or play i game i want to do it in my living room on my comfy couch with the big TV and audio system. I know a lot of people don't care about the audio/visual experience of TV or gaming but to me its the best part. So to me, having a device that could integrate all of that on one input could be appealing if, and ONLY if it is done right. Obviously MS didn't do it right so its all a moot point anyway. I'm just saying that i can see some appeal in their concept, they just failed at putting it all together.
