Braen - Not Xbox Zero? So they can tell you which to buy based on how many 1.5 gbps internet connections you have in your household?

The problem for MS is they can't really backpedal off of this - the last couple years they have totally shifted their business in anticipation of them "owning your living room". However, if they don't backpedal, they may lose even MORE money by staying the course.

I had some family asking me about the two systems, and comparisons between the two. I tried to stay pretty balanced and not have any bias in my tone. Basically, I'm telling non-gamers about each system. Even they, with no real knowledge of video games and think that the internet works like those old commercials for "the information super highway" as well as believing they need to upgrade their computer every year because their email goes slow, could see how shitty this system is going to be. They said "Why would anyone buy that?" It's true, no one will. Maybe misinformed people and little kids who want it, but otherwise I can't see any advantage it has over the PS4.

What are they thinking with those answers too.. I have to think this is some massive troll.

I can't wait till the commercials start airing for these systems. I'm really hoping for some old-school console-war hostile commercials.

I think a pre-order PS4 will pay for an Xbox One + games for me and then also pay for a PS4 a few months down the line. Glad I ordered both.

There is already a new Playstation ad, but it's their brand management thing:

The monologue approach is reminiscent of some great Playstation commercials of old:

If anyone thinks games on Xbox live or whatever Microsoft will call it on Xbone are going to be cheaper than their store bought counter parts, I have entire nations worth of infrastructure to sell you, at rock bottom rates.

I'll believe Microsoft willingly charges less than 60 dollars for a brand new digital game on release date than they do the physical copy when I see it.
Not to mention right now on the XBox 360, is it me, or are the digital downloads of games that are also available as discs almost twice as expensive as just going and buying a *new* copy of the game on disc?

for those who thought ryse's QTE looked lame, not to worry

The combat itself actually reminds me of Rocksteady's Batman where you have primary attack buttons that you press in a linear sequence more so than in combinations, and a counter button that relies heavily on timing. Executions play a large part in your overall success in combat (not to mention they look absolutely bad ass) and, as you probably noticed in the trailer, prompt you to complete a button sequence in the vein of a quicktime event. Don't let the idea of doing quicktime events deter you as they're actually optional. If you mess up during the sequence by pressing the wrong attack button, you still hit your opponent but the execution won't look as cool or reward you as much in the way of money and buffs.
So... the game is basically a movie, player optional. Drivetard, engage!

Ryse looks so bad it doesn't deserve a thread.

but really Ryse and Xbone are the gift that keeps on giving.

So, not only did the game look like a giant piece of shit, scripted events and nonstop QTE versus every single enemy..

but... the QTE play themselves anyway. you can not fail them. Not even "press X for awesome". dont hit a button, hit the wrong button, the QTE completes anyway.

This is one of the most hilarious design choices I have ever heard.

If every goddamn enemy is a QTE I actually think it's a good idea to make it optional with bonuses for the correct inputs. That is kind of retarded if there's no visual cue that you failed, however.

History as a guide, they're VERY slow to react to the retail market for their digital store for 360. Unlike PSN that's at least moderately nimble with it. (Although far from perfect - but AC3 $40 on 360 w/ Gold vs. $20.69 on PS3 w/ PS+ right now is one example I can see of an old game holding "too much value" on theirs)

Holy shit, continuing on another page - XCOM: Enemy Unknown still $40 when its a Free PS+ game even.

($40 BL2, $30 RE6 as well - hits on pricing just keep coming...)

Sure, a high-rez texture pack makes a huge difference when I'm playing Skyrim at 1080P on a 27" monitor sitting 2 feet in front of it. Not so much on a 50" TV 10 feet away. It might help a little bit, but it won't be some night and day difference that most people will notice while playing on their living room TV at a normal viewing distance. The problem is, 1080p on 40+ inch devices just isn't that great, there's a lot of blurring there at such a low PPI(especially when compared to gaming on a PC)
Have you ever played Battlefield 3 on 360/PS3 and then on PC? It's mind-fucking-blowingly apparent how awful the console version looks.

When steam first came out, no games required it--I could just as easily buy a physical disc and avoid steam.
Not true, Counter-Strike stand alone version. I think.

Half-Life 2 was Steam required too, no? I seem to recall buying that on disc and having to install Steamworks for it (which I didn't use for ANYTHING else for years)
