Something's going on with my FioS. I pay for 75 down, 50 up... this is unacceptable.

Xbox One reviews seem pretty good to me. We all know the 360s UI went through a ton of changes from launch until now and the Xbox One is even more ambitious. The theme I took from reviewers was that when it starts working better/gets fleshed out that the Xbox One is in an entirely different realm than PS4. In fact both consoles are kind of getting the same reviews. Wait to buy until they have exclusives you're interested in, for the most part.

Does the Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 patch fix everything? Eurogamer.net

Taking the affected clips and running them through our performance analysis tools, we expected the results to show clear frame-rate drops and small bouts of tearing, but surprisingly this wasn't the case at all, with the results showing us a largely locked 60FPS bar one or two minor dips and a solitary torn frame. Furthermore, when seeking through the footage in performance-affected areas we were confronted with unique frames on a consistent basis, thus indicating a 60fps update that we just didn't feel when playing the game.

So just what is going on? Well, a close look at our captures reveals that Call of Duty: Ghosts actually runs at higher frame-rates than 60fps on a fairly frequent basis, despite the video output being limited to 60Hz. In scenes where we experienced judder and perceived frame-rate loss, what we are actually seeing is the appearance of skipped and incomplete frames - an effect that is arguably far more noticeable than a few prolonged drops down to 50fps or so seen the 360 version of the game.
Reviewers mistaking frame judder for framerate loss is all kinds of hilarious and shows how bad sites like Polygon are.

Which one is it? Is the Xbox One in an entirely different realm or are they the same?
What's confusing about that? Reviews are pretty much the same it's just that the xbox crosses over into a different category for what is trying to do.

Both. What the Xbox One is trying to do is in an entirely different realm from what the Playstation 4 is trying to do. It's way more ambitious. However, in the end, the reviews they are getting mostly come to the same conclusion: wait.

When Microsoft says it's building a console for the next decade, it's not lying. Where the PlayStation 4 is designed to simply become an ever-better version of itself, the Xbox One is poised to turn into an entirely different, entirely unprecedented device. It may not only supplement, but replace your cable box; it could have a rich, full app store; games are only going to get better, more impressive, and more interactive. The blueprints are all here. Virtually everything Microsoft is trying to do is smart, practical, and forward-thinking - even as they've undone some of the Xbox One's most future-proof innovation over the last few months, Marc Whitten and his team at Microsoft have clearly kept their heads in the future.

But nearly everything that could be great someday isn't great right now. The Kinect is an incredible piece of raw machinery and engineering, but it's not implemented well into games, nor does its voice control provide a truly fast, seamless way to navigate the operating system. The TV integration is an awkward hodgepodge of menus and overlays and dead ends. There's a massive opportunity for Windows apps to turn the Xbox into something no one could have imagined, but it's as yet gone unexplored. Some of these are easily solved problems, but others - cable integration in particular - are a much steeper uphill climb.

Today, the Xbox One is a great gaming console with a few great games - Zoo Tycoon and Forza are both excellent, better than anything currently available for the PS4, and Dead Rising is a blast even if it's flawed. Whether or not the Xbox is better than the PS4 is entirely subjective: if you're committed to buying a console this holiday season, buy the one with the games you want. It's too soon to make a call on almost any other feature. Don't buy an Xbox One expecting to immediately throw out your entertainment center.

And:

The Xbox One may not be exactly what Microsoft thinks it is, but it's still a strong start for a powerful game console. Its sheer speed, versatility, horsepower and its ability to turn on and off with words make it a relatively seamless entry into our already crowded media center. What determines whether it stays there is the next 12 months: Exclusives like Titanfall and Quantum Break will help, as will gaining feature parity with the competition (we're looking at you, game broadcasting!). For broader success beyond just the early adopter's living room, the NFL crowd must buy in to Microsoft's $500 box. But will they? That remains to be seen. What's there so far is a very competent game box with an expensive camera and only a few exclusive games differentiating it from the competition.

Or:

Not yet. It's generally dumb to buy any new console right at launch. PS4's have been having issues with a "blue light of death," and for all we know the Xbox One could have its own issues as well; the sting of the red ring of death is still fresh in most memories. Besides, the launch line-up of games-while a little better than the PS4's-is a bit soft. The real gotta-play system-sellers like Watchdogs, Destiny, and Titanfall, are still a few months out. Halo 5 is a mere glint on the horizon.

For now, the Xbox One is one impressive living room box machine-and it more than justifies its $500 dollar price with the inclusion of at least $100-worth of set-top boxitude-but you're going to be better off waiting for a little while to see how things shake out.

But-and this is admittedly a sizable but-if the Xbox One can straighten the few little quirks it has with some software tweaks, this thing is going to be unstoppable in a way the PS4 could never touch. It's too versatile, too feature-ridden, too future. So wait, yes. But while you do, go ahead and start clearing out plenty of space underneath your television.

Like I said, generally the same "wait until better games are out" review conclusions the PS4 received, however reviewers see more potential in the Xbox One to end up delivering as much more than just a gaming console.

What is the xbox one doing that puts it in a different category? This is a gaming console, what is it trying to do that puts it in an entirely different category?

I hope you aren't talking about it trying and failing to be a media center for your entire household?

I kind of like all those features on the xbox 1. Its basically acting as a voice activated centerpiece of your entire entertainment system.

I would not mind buying the ps4 for the kids this christmas, and then getting the xbone for me later on.

So basically, the Xbone is an unfinished joke that does everything worse than the PS4 and doesn't do a single thing where it tries to be different well enough to matter.

Microsoft shouldn't have rushed this out. They did *not* have to launch at the same time.

I don't care whether or not the xbox succeeds, it just seems like a mismatch of ideas that aren't really implemented all that well. It feels like they rushed to come to market at the same time as Sony, and it's showing.

In my opinion that is what consumers are going to start expecting. Not all the voice activated shit really, just the ability to be able to do everything at once. Look at tablets and smartphones. Do they just make calls? Or can they make calls, play games, read books, surf the web, etc?

I think one of the best things about Xbox One is that you can watch TV without missing out on any of the Xbox stuff. I can watch football while still seeing my friends list, browsing games, messaging, being in party chat, etc. I can get game invites while I'm doing other shit. I won't have to choose between TV or Xbox I can do both.

While I admit that a lot of the stuff they're showing so far is kind of meh, especially all the voice shit (I find it faster to navigate with the controller) - just the TV integration is a big deal to me.

All the snap stuff seems awesome also. I dunno, I think if they can get their TV integration more seamless it'll be a big help to what is already being called a strong start.

Not a single review says that and I've read them all. What I find curious is why you're making all these negative comments about the Xbox One and I haven't seen one fucking peep from you about all the PS4's that didn't even work out of the fucking box, lol.

I mean numerous sites have called the Xbox One's launch lineup stronger than the PS4's and some have labeled games like Forza "better than anything on PS4". Or how about the fact that the controller is getting such positive and glowing reviews.

I suppose I just don't understand your irrational hate but you have been Sony fanboying in this thread for months, so I suppose it's par for the course.

I'm just impressed that the Xbox One is getting better reviews than I thought it would.

Much like the 3d movie and game fad of several years ago, the push by Microsoft to pretend a gaming console is also a cable box, toaster and all purpose cappuchino machine is a bad idea looking for a justification to exist that will be superceded by far superior innovations in the coming years, just as 3d is being pushed aside in favor of concepts like the Occulus Rift.

I mean I see conclusions like these:

But in many ways, the Xbox One's bold direction for the future is well in place. The integration of voice controls and its media strategy are a boon to everyone, and the ability to run apps while playing games is something we now want on every gaming console we have. That it has a handful of strong, exclusive games at launch only supports its legitimacy as a gaming console and not just an entertainment hub.

The Xbox One is an impressive marriage of software and hardware that raises the bar in terms of what we expect from a living-room machine. Looking forward more than it looks back, the Xbox One feels like it's from the future.

Scored 8/10 btw, and I'm left wondering where you're seeing an "unfinished joke". If 8/10 and comments like these are indicators of Microsoft launching an "unfinished joke" - then jesus christ just how good will the Xbox One be when it's fully fleshed out?
