Do you have some proof of this? Maybe they want to focus their rollout in countries that are big supporters of Microsoft and the Xbox brand. Why waste units in countries where Xbox doesn't sell well anyway?
1) The most accurate insider said so, he's almost never wrong and 2) It lines up with them cutting region releases and not having any solid plans for future region rollouts that are now getting pushed back.

You can spin that focus shit all you want, but it makes more sense the other way with the delays happening.

It's easy to make vague and unprovable claims which is why I enjoy contests like this. It cuts through the bullshits, forces big talkers to stake a claim and later we can see who the bullshitters are.
Sure, but I literally threw something up minutes after you announced it with no real thought. That's the truth of it (you can check the timestamps!). I also thought Microsoft maybe would spread out their supply a bit more and would maybe try to compete with Sony more globally, but it seems that most of it is indeed in the US.

So then I can only assume Sony is having yield issues as well. PS4s are in high demand yet Sony isn't shipping new units and they're staggering their rollout as well, even to their home country.

50/50. Two million units sold, about 1 million of them in the US.

I don't think they're manufacturing as much as they thought they were going to, I don't know if it's yield issues but they are definitely not meeting demand right now. There is probably something there.

Maybe they held up the lines to QA shit after that first small shipment of defects happened (which seemed to be focused on Amazon and Taco Bell units).

Ya weird that Amazon was the root of the problem units for both rollouts, or at least the majority of them.

It's because Amazon needed to be heavily stocked ASAP to roll out for release day delivery, and Amazon is a behemoth, so more than likely Amazon was given the first set directly off the production lines.

Might be because of the shit heads Amazon uses to deliver stuff. They treat your package like a fucking hockey puck. Amazon used more bubble packaging on my replacement unit then the original. Like 3 times as much.

Yeah, that was like really focused. I definitely think *something* happened and it was quite possibly Sony's lines or Amazon's handling of packages for both systems orboththings happened.

The videos of Amazon's packing were not pretty. They put those shitty air plastic things on just one side of the boxes and the other side (and all around it) was completely unprotected. Mine came exactly like that. I don't know if bad packing was the direct cause or if it made an existing problem worse, but some shit happened.

When they delivered mine it was a HUMONGOUS box with some air pads on the bottom and top, the PS4 was able to move freely in the box. Not really sure what the fuck they were doing there, and I"m sure it attributed to some failures.

I wonder if most of the Xbones with bad blu-ray drives also came from Amazon. There was some video on fixing it and it was basically just smacking some gear back into place.

(Please note that I never went "LOL XBONE DEFECTS" when that shit was going down, as promised)

Btw, the whole "yield issues" thing isn't about Defective Units (in a completely put together box sense). It's really a science and math thing involving their APU. The ESRAM takes up an absolutely gigantic part of the wafer the APU is built from and leaves far less room for redundancy in usable stuff. You can have really good runs on chips and it won't be an issue, but chances are you're going to run into a significant amount of stuff that you have to just junk. Sony doesn't have this issue due to not having to have RAM be on the APU and it's why they have a more powerful GPU. If Microsoft hadn't gone with extra ram that had to be on the chipset then they actuallypossiblycould have gone with a more powerful GPU than Sony.

For those with Xbones, how is the integration with the Cable or Sat working out? Can you access your DVR, OnDemand etc with no problems or do you have to switch remotes and shit?

I will admit I'm a bit bored with my PS4 for now.. I knew this going in, but there's really nothing to play right now. Just been going through my PS3 backlog and playing BF4 in between. Can't wait for the games to start coming out.

Yep, it's going to be slow for a while (for both systems). I just picked up a 3DS XL though and never had a DS so I have a huuuuuge amount of great games to play in the meantime. It's a really good time to buy a 3DS.

Right now I am the super 3DS Fanboy.

It doesn't have DVR functionality built in so for that/ondemand I still have to use my Directv remote. What it will do is power on/off the TV, turn the volume up/down, change channels, pause, and mute. It seems to me that the Kinect gets better at voice recognition as well because I've had less errors as of late. I mostly watch the same channels all the time so maybe Kinect is getting better at recognizing their names.

So....

I managed to get a PS4 using that Wii alerts thing that Nester pointed out (+nets good sir) but my system appears to be totally broken.

Probably around 75% of the time, it just flashes blue and never starts up. When it does start up, it is not playing well with the rest of my home theater. It refuses to output the display correctly. I have a 1080p plasma, it does not give me 1080 as a resolution choice (grayed out). My PS3 is outputting 1080p fine. If I put it on 720p, the display is way off. Probably about 20% of the right hand side of my screen is blank and 20% of the left hand side of the screen is off the screen. If I didn't put that into words correctly, just say the display is not centered. While I see the option in display settings to enlarge/shrink the display area, I don't see an option for moving it left/right. If I put it in 480p it also starts freaking out after about 5-10 mins. My TV will just start flashing random colors (sort of like when a video card is crashing, I get the random colors and artifacts etc all over the screen) and going into standby every 5 seconds. I thought maybe this was because I use an HDMI switch, but I hooked it up straight to my TV and I have the same problem.

Additionally, I have a Panasonic professional series plasma, which means it has no speakers. When I hooked the HDMI cable straight to the TV, I had to switch to the optical out for audio straight to my receiver. When the display output starts going crazy, the audio does the same. When the display goes blank/cuts out, the audio cuts out and the light on my receiver that signifies that it's receiving a signal turns off. The audio will then start cutting in and out every 5 seconds with horrible static in between bouts of audio. The wierdest thing is that the video output failing and the audio output failing are not in sync; they are independently failing. The video can be outputting fine while I'm getting nothing but static through audio and the audio can be playing fine while my TV says it's not receiving a signal. Both issues crop up at the same time it seems like (after about 5 mins) so they're clearly related, but like I said at any given second 1 can be working while the other is not.

So yeah...audio and video work for about 5 minutes (and only at 480p) and then the whole thing starts going crazy and essentially not outputting anything. Maybe it's overheating somehow? I dunno, this thing is a piece of shit. I'm going to take it over to a friend's house to test it there and see if maybe it's just something with my setup, but otherwise I guess I get the joy of trying to get it replaced from Toys R Us. Since it was an online purchase and not a store pickup or anything, I'm sure that's going to be exceedingly fun and take an exceptionally long time.

Ahh, that sucks. You can contact Sony directly and they'll ship you out a replacement right away. They (seem) to be pretty good with it thus far. There was another guy on the board that had a DOA PS4 on release and it's already been replaced. Or at least he stopped talking about it.

Might be an issue with your TV (that's what the blue light means when it doesn't start up) - have you tried a different one? Or updating your TV's firmware?

Unfortunately this is the only TV I have with HDMI in. If it was TV related though then I would think the audio wouldn't be cutting out when I have an optical cable going straight from my PS4 to my receiver, bypassing the TV entirely.

Like I said I'm going to take it to a friend's house this afternoon to test it there just to make sure it's not some freak incompatibility with my system, but it seems unlikely that I would have both an incompatibility with the video out with my TV and audio out with my receiver.

Good to know I can just call Sony direct though, hopefully much easier and faster than dealing with Toys R Us.
