It was the first game I got for Vita. It's really good if you can stomach the Japaneseyness.
This is one upside to me not playing my PS4 at all the last couple months.

They are good, in a different way.
There's a lot of "humor" and you basically sit in a hub and enter combat/story stuff. The main story is usually fairly short but there's a ton of extra shit and it's where those game shines. You can level up weapons by "entering" the weapon and basically fighting tons of monsters and doing dungeons. The game is also infamous for having high-damage mega combos that make you sit there going "O_O WHAT THE FUCK".
I find them enjoyable. I like FFT a bit better though, but similar system with classes and such.
I put humor in quotes because it's JRPG-humor. And penguins.
Thanks for the response Noodlebro. If this were to be my first Disgaea game (this is D4: Revisted on Vita) would I be screwed in terms of missing out on the story from previous ones? Also, as you said...its pretty much FF tactics?

Maybe he meant every word of that, but what else could he say? It is very important for the Oculus Rift that Morpheus does well, because if it's a bad product, it could very well poison the VR well. More: it's important that it sells well to boost publishers' enthusiasm for the tech. It's really a case where both companies best interest is for their competition to do well. Before fighting for a market, they need to create the market!

I think I played like D3>D2>D4 or something weird. I don't know if the storys interconnect or not but I never felt really lost. There are probably throwbacks to previous games that won't make much sense.
Combat is like FFT (with a bit more WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT thrown in). There's no world map though. Otherwise it's fairly similar, albeit much more over the top and less serious.

The answer is yes. It's not without flaws, but it's packed with very memorable moments, the antagonist remains one of the best acted video game character to date and the story is surprisingly great. At 15ish hours it is also not a huge time investment.
