Only new game I'm still looking forward to with any amount of optimism for the rest of the year. I really hope they don't fuck this up, especially now that they've revealed that there's a time limit mechanic to it and time passes based on quest completions and character training/advancement.

I want this to be good but this trailer comes off a bit weird to me. It removes the "grounding" of the Witcher. Yes they are both fantasy games but you have flying around, shapeshifting, and other retard shit you move more into very gamey gameplay. IDK, it just comes off to me like they took the Witcher + Assassin's Creed + Gay Vampire Magic.

Might be amazing but some of the stuff it has added is a little off putting to me.

Just noticed this today while debating which platform to get this for:

Good to see more studios using Play Anywhere; for a long time it was basically just Sega and MS themselves. About the only thing that can get me to buy a console game digitally instead of physical too.

reviews dropping, studio has a lot of people from CDPR etc

vice giving it such a high score makes me suspicious since they are woke as fuck ("this game isn't gay enough" kinda shit)

game sounds interesting but absolutely awful game name, i honestly keep thinking its just a FF14 expansion. oh well, i still haven't played cyberpunk 2077 or kingdom cum 2 no chance i'm playing another new game other than gta 6

I hate timers in games in general as I don't like to "miss" stuff. In rogue lites and such, sure, but in story based games, no. Based on his review, this seems like a "bad" timer as well, since he brings up that it really doesn't matter that much as you can explore and get most things, but only if you skip your character progression as that is where the timer comes in. Spending skill points takes time, so he had 60 skill points unused at a time because he didn't want to miss doing things. Also skipped much of the vampire/magic skills because you only get access to those at night.

Story overall is good and even small quests continue to tie in to stuff later so the world and people in it seem to matter, but the downside and if you enjoy it will pretty much all come down to the timer aspect. Because if you do invest all your points and such, the world will be "less" because you don't have the time to experience it all.

Will probably pick it up later then at a sale once there is a mod that removes the timer, especially for skill points.

Only review I bothered to watch was ACG's and it's pretty much exactly what I expected to hear: great game, but UE5 is garbage like always.

The other good part about getting it for Xbox+PC via Play Anywhere is that the NZ trick will work so it will unlock on Series X at 0800 EDT on 9/2. I'll probably just play the whole thing on console anyway, I'm so sick and fucking tired of jumping through all the hoops required to make UE5 run properly (and that goes double if the game doesn't have native 21:9 support).

That doesn't sound like a terrible way to do timers, since you control when it ticks, and it's effectively the same as capping your level until you completed chapter x or whatever which I don't find to be much of an issue in games. Like even if I don't get xp from it I'll still do side content for items/story/exploration and that seems to be somewhat like this but you do actually get the xp, you just unlock it later once you move on with the main story.

I fucking hate timers in games, and I don't care how they do it, its mostly a non-started because it results in analysis paralysis for me. It killed Metaphor: ReFantazio for me, and ruins the idea of this and potentially Exodus as well. It's the new hotness in game design because it adds TENSION and makes you make CHOICES or some such bullshit. We have had Dramatic Tension and had to make choices in with more or less timed gameplay in games forever but it wasn't as oppressive-seeming as this. Well, it makes me make one choice: Not to buy your game.

We'll see after after the people here get to play it how much it really works out if I can bear it or not.

Maybe get some therapy for your insane amount of FOMO and anxiety surrounding it?

Or...just play the game more than once?

I’m not sure what to make of the timer either. I thought I’d hate it in Metaphor, and held off buying it until a deep sale, but it ended up being ok. I could do everything I wanted to still with many days left over to skip to required events on the calendar. In Dawnwalker it’s a bit different and I’m going to wait and see what people say. I just hate the thought that something as basic as leveling up in an rpg costs me days that are already limited.

it reminds me of the missions in Destiny with time limits. Hated the timers with a passion. I want to enjoy my gaming not feel like I’m under pressure to speedrun everything constantly.

I mean, Fallout 1 had one of the worst "timers" of all-time and is still widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever.

People just love latching onto some random bullshit and splitting hairs because some "content creator" told them to be mad nowadays, I swear to god. If the game is good enough, it won't matter if it has some goofy timer that's likely there as a mechanism for replay value.

Yeah, not a huge fan of the timer, that said it sounds like you have plenty of time to do it and also it just that you don’t save your family the game isn’t over, you’re just getting a bad ending. Again, still not a fan of the timer.

The important thing to me though is that it sounds like a fantastic rpg concerning exploration and quests with meaningful choices. So I’ll ne getting it for sure.

No one "told" me to be mad: What the ever living fuck? This is a thing that *I* don't like. The game may be awesome and/or amazing. You can't take anything away from Metaphor: ReFantazio, which is also reported one of the best games in <insert time period> but it hobbled my ability to play and enjoy it. Mass Effect 2 has a built-in timer, IIRC, as if, if you do anything after a certain point, you start to risk losing and will lose team mates if you do too many things before going through the Omega Relay. This seems like a version of that running for the whole game, which for ME drains the fun of it. We all have a similar clock ticking in our REAL LIVES. I don't play a game to be reminded the sand is running through the hourglass and TIME.IS.RUNNING.OUT.

I hope this game, and every game is fantastic. We need more great games. It may be one that I personally don't enjoy playing, though.

Timers are fucking gay. Who gives a fuck if it's "not the worst way to do a timer"? Does it make the game better? No? Get fucking rid of it. Timers are fucking gay, and they're especially fucking gay in RPGs.

Timestamped it, but there is little to explore for outside of what is marked. You can do watchpoints at night that show ? on the map, which are minor activities, which sounds similar to the Witcher 3 ? in the open world. However, outside of those you won't really find anything running around other than some small mobs running around. He didn't find any "secrets". Great looking world, but little incentive to explore outside of a given path/activity.

The part that puts the timer in the mixed bag for him is that many of those activities take time. Like following wisps to a chest, then many of those chests take time to loot. Problem being it also made it sound like the chests were similar to The Witcher 3 ? chests, most have bad loot.

There are random NPCs you can save (not quest ones), they take time. So since time is the most pressing resource in the game, it made him feel "bad" to save them. There are small guard camps which is basically like a regular encounter, but as you approach it, the timer gets greyed out to mark that if you do engage, it takes time. His conclusion is that while they said in the PR for the game that you could explore the open world without the timers, there are quite a lot of timers tied to that which you might not expect. Again, bringing up the wisps and looting chests.

He also mentioned the skill system and he had 6 saved up, so he used them and suddenly the day was gone and it was the middle of the night. So it is 1 point for 1 slot of time. The review posted earlier having 60 points saved up, it would take 3.75 day/nights away from the timer as you get 8day and 8 nighttime timers. So assuming that you'll get a minimum of 60, but I would also guess he had spent a few points at least by then, you'll spend at least 4 of the entire day/nights simply by leveling up if you invest in your character? I thought it was bad that you had to save up so you could do multiple skills for one timer, but one for one?
