Timestamped it, but there is little to explore for outside of what is marked. You can do watchpoints at night that show ? on the map, which are minor activities, which sounds similar to the Witcher 3 ? in the open world. However, outside of those you won't really find anything running around other than some small mobs running around. He didn't find any "secrets". Great looking world, but little incentive to explore outside of a given path/activity.

The part that puts the timer in the mixed bag for him is that many of those activities take time. Like following wisps to a chest, then many of those chests take time to loot. Problem being it also made it sound like the chests were similar to The Witcher 3 ? chests, most have bad loot.

There are random NPCs you can save (not quest ones), they take time. So since time is the most pressing resource in the game, it made him feel "bad" to save them. There are small guard camps which is basically like a regular encounter, but as you approach it, the timer gets greyed out to mark that if you do engage, it takes time. His conclusion is that while they said in the PR for the game that you could explore the open world without the timers, there are quite a lot of timers tied to that which you might not expect. Again, bringing up the wisps and looting chests.

He also mentioned the skill system and he had 6 saved up, so he used them and suddenly the day was gone and it was the middle of the night. So it is 1 point for 1 slot of time. The review posted earlier having 60 points saved up, it would take 3.75 day/nights away from the timer as you get 8day and 8 nighttime timers. So assuming that you'll get a minimum of 60, but I would also guess he had spent a few points at least by then, you'll spend at least 4 of the entire day/nights simply by leveling up if you invest in your character? I thought it was bad that you had to save up so you could do multiple skills for one timer, but one for one?

Maybe get some therapy for your insane amount of FOMO and anxiety surrounding it?

Or...just play the game more than once?

I agree with the general dislike of time limits, I can't really come up with a single example where it actually mattered. Fallout? The water "deadline" was a joke and the only way to lose to it was to do it intentionally. The last time I can remember this much talk about one making or breaking a game it was FF XIII-3... and it turned out to be completely inconsequential there too. Same goes for Persona 3/4/5 and Metaphor, though I wouldn't really compare the calendar in those games to the way the time limit works here anyway.

I do wish they'd gone with a publisher besides Namco. They aren't the worst, but they are definitely the reason the game is $70 when it should probably be priced closer to something like Tainted Grail.

I imagine they were trying to come up with a way to control players, like myself, with ADHD in these games. Which ends up, 90% of the time, me not finishing the game because I get burnt out trying to do ALL the content. Looking at the data for Witcher 3, .. a LOT of people didnt get near as far as I did and still raved about the game for instance.

Things like skill ups taking time, however, is a bit of a double tax on the system and a bit much. If they scale it down to be noticeable, but not in your face all the time - it might come out to be nice. If they allow mods, and I imagine they do (I havent checked) - then Im sure a lot of people will just end up turning the time requirements off altogether. I wanted to check on the games polish right now, but like others have said.. I guess Ill just wait until its a bit more fleshed out by mods or the devs.

if the game is intended to have a strong focus on narrative, time sensitivity makes sense. forcing players to makee choices with real effects.

having time pass when leveling up seems like a terrible design choice. like Oblivions, and any of those other games where you intentionally stay level 1 to make bosses easier. Mort, etc all talking about how they intentionally didn't skill up. ooph. you never want players doing that kind of thing. again, unless its expressly an intentional gameplay or narrative thing. LIke metroid, timed completion. or bloodstained which says, using too much demon power will corrupt you. (but doesn't actually..)
theres a couple games that do that well. hellblade iirc? says if you die too much and get corrupted, its game over. but, its a lie. it never happens. you can make games that SAY they have penalties for time, failing, etc. but in reality they don't. or there is such a strong rubber banding effect, thats its actually nearly impossible to fail.
some games will do it with health bars. where you have like 100 health. but actually, 50% dr at 50 heal, 75% dr at 25 health, 90% at 10%, etc. so you'll get chunked for damage, feel hurt. but, in reality, you aren't anywhere close to actually dieing. as you actually need to take like 500 damage to die. could do that with timers as well. time moves fast at first, but slow down time as you get closer to the deadline. people probably wouldn't really notice tasks which would eat 10min completing, suddenly only taking 1. 4 hour short rests, being 30minutes..
