Before this thread finishes dying I like Garth Ennis's comic A Walk Through Hell quite a bit.
It's a little woke with a tough lesbian FBI agent and her worried about Trump gay Mexican partner along with a couple other small things but nothing that tanks the story.
Our heroes are investigating a mysterious warehouse that two other agents have disappeared in to while conducting a search. They soon learn it is tied to a previous case involving a serial killer of children. The investigation and fallout of that case harmed not only their careers but the career of their boss and it looks like the rest of the chickens are coming home to roost. The story hops back and forth to the investigation of that case and what's going on the warehouse. Some of the themes have a bit of extra weight as weight as Epstein had yet to not kill himself when this was published
It does get a little edgelordy as can be expected with a guy that wrote The Boys, Preacher, Punisher, etc but it's on the tame side for Ennis. Mostly.

the suspense is great. But, the story..
Written in 2017/2018. Boomer liberal fantasy. standard reddit atheist wears Christian ideology on its sleave while misunderstanding it, and attacking it. to be clear, its not overtly attacking Christianity, its just wearing it as a skinsuit like so many Hollywood movies/horror movies do these days. Think like Seven, or any vampire/demon movie where they beat the vampire with Athiesm not crosses or actual faith in God.
also standard, "centrist" bullshit, where the Right are Evil white men. pedophiles, rapists, racists, who care only for power. The Left are just misguided and mistaken some times. they believe the right things, and are in the right. just get confused some times. never even consider the Left might actually be wrong in the core of their ideology itself.
While at it also stuck on "left and right". Evil cis white men are actually all racists, and sexists. all of them. The lefts accusations are 100% correct, and not strawmen.
Completely lost in Western thought. He can't even imagine China, India, Islam, or Africa don't even consider Western Christian values. Values. No. the real evil is the greedy white man.

He presents at one point, after Jesus came to Earth. what changed? did anything get better? and concludes no. Which again is just pure anti-west/Christian liberal blindness. Western Christian civilization is objectively a good. And HAS raised the world up. it may not be instant, and it may be hard work, but it has.
I wouldn't call it Woke, as its not actively communist. But, it is completely out of touch boomer liberal. Clearly a centrist who has been surrounded by progressive liberals for too long and has no idea what Conservatives actually say or think. and has no actual perspective on his liberal friends. nor foreigners.

binged through the season, i enjoyed the small moments of the season way more than s3-4 but the finale was very underwhelming and predictable. Oh well, it wasn't anger inducing, just ... kinda boring. it was funny how so many characters were completely sidelined like Gen V, Sage, Zoe, on and on.
I wish the story had been more interesting and inter-connected, they really downplayed the presence of super powers this season in important moments. Show deleted, never gonna watch it again and I can't really recommend watching this over Invincible which is a similar idea but executed better for the most part. A 2-3 hour Butcher vs. Homelander supercut could really turn the show into a single movie.

I haven’t watched the past two seasons. I will sometime this year to make up my own mind, but even the “good” seasons really riffed on Christianity hard.
But I try to see the positive in things and I saw it attacking the only part of Christianity that the left ever seems to talk about - the televangelist, the prosperity gospel people, the “put on a show” mega churches, the people that use it to get rich.
Nothing they attacked in the first 3 seasons really bothered me because it’s the fake Christianity. It’s the shit I hate too.

they try really hard to attack Trump in season 5 as passive as possible, using shit he's done IRL like posting AI meme Jesus/W40K pics of himself, making fun of retards who "worship" Trump and ask no questions, pushing that point to the obvious conclusion of what happens when Trump "turns" on his followers for not worshipping him enough, blah blah blah. Its all silly obvious boring shit that doesn't go anywhere interesting. At least if Homelander had actually built a fanatical army that might have been an interesting story, what happens to your jihad when you run out of enemies (Dune).
The only really interesting statement was from Stan Edgar who said "none of this shit matters, all that matters is that corporations run the world and they only care about profits going up, nothing else". Thats the most scary true statement in the entire show and not a single character gives a fuck or does anything about it lol. It also completely falls apart if Homelander had "won", he would have killed practically everyone so its hard to figure out how retarded the writers really are.
