Good tomatoes make any sandwich better. My Mom makes sandwiches with peanut butter, tomato, and mayo when we have garden tomatoes. Sounds horrifying but I dare you to take a bite of one and say it doesn't taste good.

Tomatoes are a per person thing more than it is a tomato thing. Yes there are shitty tomatoes for sure, but to some people even the best tomatoes don't taste good. Something to do with taste bud development/decline as you can almost always see kids hating tomatoes and liking/loving them later.

Tomatoes are great, I always eat some fresh from the garden with a little salt.
Im kinda iffy about tomatoes on sandwiches though. I like them on cold sandwiches, but not so much on hot ones.

I usually take off lettuce and extra tomatoes on my sandwiches. Especially like a spicy chicken sandwich.

I am not a huge fan of lettuce so that's a bonus for me. I really burnt out on the stuff for my weight loss. Just looking at a salad makes me sad.

Last year did a kinda bastard italian tomato salad with the shit tons of garden tomatoes. Basically diced them up w/ a bit of shredded lettuce, oil and vinegar/pepper. Forget if we did just a bit of parmeson or other hard cheese, fresh red onion, and something else I'm spacing. Pretty good when I dont really like tomatoes plain unless being a slice on a burger or something.

Home grown, good variety tomatoes are the food of the Gods. Get a good beefsteak tomato you grew, cut thick slices, give it plenty of salt, some fresh mozzarella, and plenty of fresh basil and you have a dish for the gods. Also, home grown tomatoes, home made bread, home made goat cheese with basil and salt and pepper is a fucking amazing lunch. Toast the bread, dice the tomatoes with garlic and mozzarella, then put them on the grill for about a minute and you have amazing bruschetta. Store bought tomatoes, especially in the winter, taste like cardboard. When you get fresh, locally grown tomatoes it is a whole different story.

Yeah, the tomatoes you get at the supermarket and especially at fast food restaurants are barely the same thing as a real tomato. When the tomatoes in the garden start to get ripe I go get about 5 lbs of thick cut bacon and a couple loaves of bread and go on an all BLT diet for a week.
