Also, my mom makes the best black beans son. Cubans in general make black beans the best. Mexican black beans tend to be extremely hard and little seasoning is added as they focus more on the rice.

I've always heard the NY water argument when people talk about bagels, that bagels elsewhere in the country just don't taste the same.

So what's so fucked up about NY water that it makes any food product that has water in it taste different?

Weird. Go to the store and spend the 50 cents or whatever the fuck it is for like a pound of black beans. Soak them and cook. Add a bit of salt and they're delicious. Very hearty, almost like eating meat. Pretty hard to screw up too. Not sure why restaurant black beans aren't good.

Can throw some pepper, cilantro, and butter in there to fancy them up.
