Everything is replaceable until ilvl 100, which won't drop until hard mode. Most of your purples will also be replaced by gold ultimate level guns and set gear(this is where the real farming starts to upgrade), so purples will eventually only serve as material for like weapon level transmission.

One thing to note you will have to level up the mastery of weapons in order to level your account mastery, which expands some perks for the account, some areas of the game require a minimum mastery level in order to enter, I believe the lowest is level 15. But leveling descendants and guns gets easy by running the defense missions with xp boosters.

What character(s) have you tried out? Do you have the "Boost Path" available?

During the current login event, you'll get a box that lets you select any non Ultimate descendent, and another box that will let you select any of the Ultimate weapons.

By the time you are ready for Hard Mode stuff you -should- have gotten a few copies of Thunder Cage, Gregs Reversed Fate and Fallen Hope for Ultimate weapons. You could also have gotten the descendents: Bunny, Freyna, Sharen and Blair. All of them are superb. Note, I could be misremembering when those guns and characters become farmable, they could all be in HM versions of mission.

This has been replaced with running Sigma Sector, public, 5 minutes a run, 5-6 runs without boosters = 1-40. You could try Axion, but you really need a developed character to contribute.

All of these are farmable in normal. Level them, but do NOT invest in them because all of them have Ultimate versions which are superior.
