I liked that they started with the hybrid hypercar challenge. They have wanted to get those cars together for a very long time. The lines on the P1 make it my favorite.

Overall I thought it was a really good start. Top Gear with more freedom. I am excited to see how far they try to push it being on the Internet.

I thought it was a decent first episode. Frankly I was a bit disappointed with the "more supercars" focus, felt it distracted from the episode overall. Wanted to see more about the M2. I much prefer seeing cars that I could theoretically afford with a few special ones thrown in rather than the ones that will be repainted in gold and have Arabs driving them through London.
M2 bit was absolutely fantastic. Loved it until they showed the score and it was just hilarious from then on.

McLaren P1 was a beast and probably least driver friendly car lol. Porsche seemed really nice .

I think amazon demanded their driver to be a saucy american to connect to their perceived view that americans cant comprehend f1 and british comedy. So they chose this guy and had him say a bunch of dumb shit as a protest. Then they can pick a silent faceless driver again. Call him Enigma and have him redo all those benchmarks.

Yes please.

Anyone else get the feeling that that little opener probably had a higher budget than than an entire series of BBC Top Gear? The first episode wasn't bad, but considering most people expectations I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed by the series. It'll only get better with time too, I can't wait.

Also after the intro I was half expecting Amazon was just going to buy all the vehicles on the show. If they're blowing this much per episode a few million to buy the cars couldn't be that much on top, and it'd be niftey if they took them on the tour/had a museum.

Budget for Top Gear used to be around 4 - 500k pounds per episode, upped to around 650 for the new/last? season without Clarkson.

BBC now lavishing an extra £200k an episode on Top Gear | Daily Mail Online

The Grand Tour budget is around 4.5 million per episode....

How much? Netflix claims Amazon spent quarter of a billion on The Grand Tour

So yes, nearly a Top Gear season budget per episode of The Grand Tour.

Ok The American is extremely annoying as a test driver. They need to shit-can him or put a muzzle on him.

Second episode had me rolling. May's hair, them shooting each other, the dummy he sniped with the handgun, it was all fucking great.

The fucking Vulcan looks sick in that maroon color, made my pantaloons tight. As other's have stated the American needs to go. I could also see them doing it to make fun of Americans or their hand was forced, kind of like the intros that are very cringe worthy.

I got an invite to Drive Tribe today, their new facebook esque cars only car website, it's pretty kickass and launches on Monday. If you like car porn/car related posts without the political and negative shit Facebook brings to the table, check it out.

EDIT: They're also doing a show in Nashville today, god dammit. If I had known there were going to be this many US stops I'd try to get tickets.

Didn't enjoy the second episode near as much. The segment this week was just way too long and barely car focused. It was funny but just wore itself out.

Yeah, I agree and they said there was one more episode this season like that. They did it for people that watch the show that aren't that much into cars.

Yeah, really not super thrilled with this episode at all.

I wonder if they have plans to do a Christmas special type episode. Those were by far the best things Top Gear ever made.

Aside from the american being shit I laughed out loud at most of it, I can't say that about most "comedy's" these days.

The whole celebrity getting killed bit might be there way of phasing out that part. No way will they let a normal person drive around that test track.

Too me, it seems like a really challenging track to get the most out of a car, what I don't like is using a different driver every time to put down a lap time. That will add way to many variables for comparison sake.
Eh.. they were doing that on the old series. Different people played 'the stig' at various times. There's no way to tell how often they did this.
As long as it's a highly qualified race car driver, it's fine. They aren't trying to be an official source on a car's official time. That's what things like nuremberg ring is for.

I thought the second episode was just ok. The special forces segment had its moments, but it just dragged on for me. Also the American sucks
