I agree the CGI at the end looks weird. I'll probably still check it out because Scorsese more often than not puts out quality work. I'm actually shocked Pesci looks as good as he does considering he's been out of the game for so long.

How do you do a movie like this without Liotta making a cameo?

Feels like this should have been made like 20 years ago, these guys are just too old. DeNiro playing a hitman as a 70 year old is to much to take.

remember this'll be "free" on netflix like 2 weeks after it screens at a few theaters (for oscars) so makes it much easier to watch early

doesn't look very good. Wish they had done a TV series with new actors and brought in the old guys for a few cameos instead.

Those last moments of CGI face are horrible

Agree with the age criticism. This is more of the age that would have worked.

Demonstrated strong screen presence in The Deuce. Would have casted him as a lead.

A mafia movie made by Scorsese with both DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci on board is for me a dream come true. Especially when it's about Jimmy Hoffa and Frank Sheeran.

And the trailer doesn't click. You can CGI the fuck out of anyone, 70 years old actors, even the best ones, can't act like 30 years old gangsters during the sixties. As being said in this thread, there's a lot of top notch actors nowadays who can play Hoffa and Sheeran. Bringing the old dogs in a cameo would have been okay. Their voices, that accent, their presence both look nice. But DeNiro looks like an character from Avatar and Pacino / Pesci both look like they fell asleep in the tanning booth.

I'll still watch it but there's an uncanny valley vide going around and it definitely doesn't click at all for me.

Both Cannavale, Graham and Shannon did Boardwalk Empire, definitely a pretty good watch, from Terence Winter (writer on The Sopranos) with Steve Buscemi as lead. Some episodes are bad (muh children) but it's a solid gangster TV show.

Another development hell where production doesn't make any sense:

- Netflix produced 3h30 footage "maybe theater release, maybe not".
- Multiple teasers / trailers showing bad CGI and spoiling most iconic moments.
- $60m reshoots and editing over an already $160m budget.
- Filming in digital before doing reshoots on film.

reviews starting to come out, currently sitting at 100% on RT with 33 critic reviews. 92/100 on MetaCritic

i'm honestly shocked, thought this would be a giant turd. can't wait to watch it now.

This is probably the last movie we'll see with this specific cast and director, so end of the day it was worth it for Netflix to pour this money into it because Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, and this movie will be the "great American gangster movies you have to watch" in 10, 50, and 200 years.

Scorsese directing Pacino, DeNiro, and Pesci in a mob based movie.

Yeah I am going to watch this.

This movie would have to be a 1 on Rotten Tomatoes for me to even wonder if this was worth not watching. These guys could be in an Audi commercial and I would still consider it entertaining. Now will it be worth watching many times like Goodfellas, remains to be seen.

I wonder how many Rolling Stones songs will be played while the camera follows one of the leads in slow motion during a tense scene.

Well fuck. DeNiro has become such a senile laughing stock, such a complete un-self-aware moron, that I do not want to like anything he does anymore. And he has done a damn good job of late making that an easy task.

But fuck me that trailer makes this look like a must watch.

Caught it last weekend. It's been in limited release the last week or so.

Good movie. Certainly didn't feel like 3 1/2 hours. Did not have the full-up Scorsese soundtrack in it so it's a little more subdued in that respect. And Pacino is fucking great in it.

I'm not sure it's as good as Goodfellas, but it's pretty darn close.
