Camus - The Myth of SisyphusI thought he lifted this idea from the judge dred comic but it looks like this predates the judge dred long walk. So he must have lifted it from someone else.
I'll whitepill just a bit here and say that Francis Lawrence was the guy who directed Constantine, which I liked. Done correctly, this could be a really good and timely allegory about men in general (all the walkers are men and thus disposable; men have a tendency to go band of brothers under duress, etc.) Could still be decent if they decided to play it straight and keep it relatively divorced from modern politics.
The danger is if they give King himself significant creative oversight and they try to awkwardly shoehorn in "Drumpf is le fascist and fascism is le bad" everywhere.
I'll keep my expectations low and walk away happy if it's decent.

History is all you needed to get the idea - WW2 had numerous “death marches”, he just combined that idea with modern America and added the “game show” aspect
thought it was post apocalyptic like the Dred universe.

It probably should have been part of a collection of short films like Love, Death, and Robots.
Come on, man! You seem familiar with the character, but 4 times means you think that is how it is spelled.I thought it was post apocalyptic like the Dred universe. Dred comic did come out a few years before this but so did stuff like a boy and his dog that inspired fallout.
I thought the same thing. The trailer is super cartoonish. Stupid kids know how This all ends, signs up anyway thinking it's gonna be a good fun hike. Over the top military trope guy gets to eat all the scenery showing how fascist career military people are.
Could be. I thought the setting itself if you look at the cars and everything, maybe it's supposed to be taking place further back. I don't know I never read the short story. I think somebody told me what the premise was supposed to be back in college, but I don't remember the details.I thought the same thing. The trailer is super cartoonish. The only interesting thing was the cameras filming, which could be the precursor to The running Man movie coming up. The Games Network and Killian.
Looks like from the 50s or 60s in an alternative universe. No way would the USA government kill young fighting age men for a tv gameshow. Especially in the Vietnam era when they need those young guys to kill the yellow man. Its a really dumb premise. The book made it seem mildly believable, but it's completely tarded the way it's been adapted for film.Could be. I'll give it a chance when it comes out on streaming, but I'm not going to the goddamn movie theater for it.
Yeah I don't know when the story was supposed to take place or in what time period, but you obviously noticed the cars and the buildings, clothing, and even the military tech, and I'm guessing it's 60s 70s or something.Looks like from the 50s or 60s in an alternative universe. It might be good, but i'm dubious on this being made by the same people who did hunger games.Yeah I don't know when the story was supposed to take place or in what time period, but you obviously noticed the cars and the buildings, clothing, and even the military tech, and I'm guessing it's 60s 70s or something.
Like I said I never read the story, and I don't remember the premise other than it being voluntary lottery system to cull the population with the enticement of money I guess.
It still looks interesting but like I said I'm not going to go pay for a ticket.
