Worth seeing in theaters or wait for streaming though?

Depends on how expensive going to the theater is for you I'd say.

It's not really a must-see-right-now, I liked the Mandalorian series and I wasn't particularly hyped or excited about this movie, so I could totally have waited to see it on Disney+ in 6 months or whatever. For us it was an opportunity to see some friends that don't live close and the kids to see each other so it was worth it and everyone did like it so it felt worth it.

If you like the current Disney+ style of Star Wars content outside of Andor (Andor is its own category), such as Mandalorian, Ahsoka, or even recent animated stuff like Bad Batch, Rebels, Maul Shadow Lord, you'll probably like it too because it's done by the same kind of teams. As I said in my review, it's just a longer and bigger adventure than usual for Mando & Grogu, it reminds me of the X-Files film in that it's the same characters as the TV series but you're getting more locations, more action scenes and it feels higher budget than regular episodes, but in the end it doesn't really turn the universe on its head and the status quo is definitely still present at the end.

Flopped worse than Solo. Lolo!

At least Solo had the excuse of going up against Infinity War and Deadpool. What's the excuse for this dumpster fire?

You're forgetting that M&G (probably) did slightly worse than Solo even without adjusting for inflation, although it is worth reiterating that Solo had Deadpool 2 to deal with (Infinity War had already been out for a month and was a non-factor). Week two of Deadpool 2 was much stronger competition than week three of Mortal Kombat 2.

The lesson is the same Disney had already learned with The Marvels - there's no guarantee your streaming audience will pay extra (beyond their existing monthly subscription fee) to see these characters on a bigger screen.

If this movie came out on the heals of season 1 I might have wanted to give it a pirate. Season 1 was great, just some dude with a gun solving small problems for eccentric characters. Season 2... probably less so, as it started to lose its original charm and tried to make its overall story bigger and REMEMBER THIS!!, though I'll stand by s2e7 of mando being top fucking tier.

After season 3 fuck these assholes. I don't even want to pirate this shit.

I wouldn't say Infinity War was a non-factor. "Combined, Deadpool 2 and Infinity War pulled in $76.2M, money which Solo might have seen".

Plus If you just took your kids out to the movies and spent a hundred bucks you probably aren't going back the same month. Most people live on a monthly budget. While it wasn't opening the same week it certainly drained a lot of pocket money that month.

current estimate has it just below solo. solo opened to $153m worldwide and mando estimated is $163m.

solo was still #1 its second weekend with around $29m. Backrooms opens next week and has a chance to be number one, current forecasts $25m-35m from boxofficepro while box office theory says pre-sales etc are pointing to $45m and could be as high as $55m. if it does finish 2nd to a $10m a24 movie would be very bad look for the mouse.

I only watched season 1 of Mando and haven't watched any of the other SW streaming shows so feel free to tell me I'm wrong here. The impression I get from reading these threads, and also with the post IW Marvel offerings, is that they lack any kind of consequence to the larger universe. There's a place in entertainment for a buddy cop show set in a known universe, whether that's mando, winter soldier & falcon, or similar, but don't try to sell those as blockbuster movie ideas. Know your lane and be happy to live in it. If you want to bring a SW story to the big screen I need to feel like you're either building up to some epic conclusion or actually providing that epic conclusion. We devoured Marvel phase 1-3 because it was building up to IW. We watched Force Awakens because we were hoping for some post RotJ conclusion. They expect us to care about M&G because.....why exactly?

Until they write off the modern trilogy this will be the problem with everything. And if they jump too far forward the same disconnect will happen.

They really are in a pickle, they need to erase 7,8 and 9 to be able to do anything.

A Decade of malicious ip destruction. The utter ruination of every aspect of the old lore due to some mix of royalty dispute, arrogance, and hatred

I will wait for it to arrive on Disney in a couple of months. There is no motivation for me to see this in a theater. As others have stated, I might have been more interested if it came out after Season 1. I like good stories and it sounds like this is just a "Lets show off Baby Yoda some more" , rather than creating an epic story that feels like either main character could really die.

About half the posters on this forum did not like the Dune Movies. I however enjoyed them a lot(Save for the screaming in the first movie). Those movies told a great story that will continue on. That is why I will go to the theater to watch Dune 3.

Star Wars recently has been missing more than hitting the target in the story department. Andor was an example of a great story. If Rogue One had not been made before that series, I would have gone to the theater to watch Rogue One just because of how good the series was. As it is, I watched Rogue One again after watching the final episode of Andor because it improved Rogue One.

I've been saying it for years. They need to erase 7/8/9 ASAP. Star Wars fans simply can't become interested beyond using it as a popcorn flick.

That being said, the team that produced Mando Season 3 is incapable of shepherding the Star Wars franchise into a better destination than episode 7/8/9. They could barely string together a few storyboards into an internally coherent episode, much less develop a decade long narrative across different multiple tv shows.

Now the Andor team? That team took the childish premise of "BIG BAD EVIL EMPIRE MAKES BIG BAD MOON SIZED DEATH STAR" and turned it into one of the greatest space opera tv shows of all time. Every part was thoughtful and every action a character took made sense from their perspective. Tony Gilroy and team don't need to produce identical content for all Star Wars needs, they just need to help all the ways the Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are failing.
