wonder how its gonna go

I'm curious as to what that means exactly. I've got kids in 4 different cities, and one at home, and a wife, and I all use this account. It's a family account, and I see that as legitimate. If they start making me pay for every time a log in happens that's not at my house I'll be out for sure.

Instead of couch co-op they want you to buy four systems, four copies of the game, and four subscription packages to play over the internet. This is what Netflix strives to emulate.

Might affect other services too. A lot of people pool subscriptions so the whole group can have Netflix, Hulu, HBOMAX, etc, while only paying for one. What happens when you bring nothing to said group?

lol retards I wont be subscribing.

Then they lose nothing. Infact they gain by losing your bandwidth costs. If they expect to gain 720 mill off this that means they are subtracting lost subs via protest from new subs and savings on bandwidth. If this works how they expect this will expect to to roll out on HBO Max, Disney+ and Hulu later this year.

I'm shocked this has lasted so long really. Not everyone getting cut off will have the savy / ability to do a plex server either and i am sure there is an overlap of the people who can that were password sharing anyways. Companies know people will pirate this shit, hell HBO quasi celebrated it for years by releasing the amount of pirated copies downloaded for Game of Thrones. They still got 20+ million watches legit anyways per episode.

lmao. brother I'm a cheap fuck too but don't try to rationalize it.

"what do you mean I wasnt allowed to share my password with 5 different households???" "If you don't let me keep doing it I'm out, thats it!!"

Who's popping up the VPN on their router? Then we are all the same IP.

Technically sure, but im also not a massive Netflix watcher. Probably averaged 2-3 hours a week tops over the past year or so.

Sure, however estimates based on polling from outside agencies reveal about 100 million people are watching netflix on a shared password. Its something stupid like 20-22% of people polled were. If all of them simply watched like you thats 2-300 million hours of bandwidth they would have to pay for per week. Of course some may watch less and many would probably watch more even having it on in the background.

its not hard for any server site to know when someone is using a VPN, so far netflix hasn't cared about people accessing out of country content but they will likely care more when account sharing is involved.

I have never done this, as I dont have much of a need (outside of checking security cams when out of town) but there are a whole slew of retail routers that let you set up your own household VPN. You should be able to have any "family" member you trust connect to your personal VPN and then be able to watching anything using your IP address?

Amazon, Disney, and BBC can all detect & block my Mullvad VPN, but I assumed that was due to the web addresses, that they use, get compiled on a blocklist for Disney/Amazon/BBC.

Who Can Use a Netflix Account Now?

Netflix accounts are still shareable, but only within one household. To ensure that your devices are associated with your primary location, Netflix is now asking users to connect to the Wi-Fi at your primary location, open the Netflix app or website, and watch something at least once every 31 days.

Can You Still Share Netflix With Someone Who Doesn’t Live With You?

No, accounts are only meant to be used within one household. Netflix will prompt users who try to sign into your account elsewhere to sign up for their own account instead and block their access until they do.

Netflix will NOT begin automatically charging account holders whose information is used outside of their homes.

Can Other Users on Your Netflix Account Save Their Profiles?

Yes, Netflix offers users a profile transfer feature that will allow them to migrate their show recommendations, watch history, and more to their own account if they decide to create one. This will give password sharers the opportunity to preserve their profile if they sign up for their own Netflix accounts.

Can You Still Use Netflix While Traveling?

Signing into Netflix outside of your home may lead to the device in use being blocked from Netflix. This could prevent you from signing into new devices while traveling, but Netflix has devised a workaround.

Traveling users who want to use Netflix on a hotel smart TV, company laptop, etc. can request a temporary code from the service when signing in. This will give them access to their account for seven consecutive days.

How Can You Prevent Netflix from Blocking Your Devices?

Signing into home Wi-Fi at least once every 31 days on your devices will make them “trusted devices,” which Netflix will remember and leave unblocked.

If your device has been blocked incorrectly, you’ll need to contact Netflix in order to get it unblocked.

How Will Netflix Know if You’re Not in Your Home/Primary Location?

Netflix uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine whether a device signed into your account is connected at your primary location.

If your device is being used outside your home by someone you haven’t authorized, you can sign into your account and sign out on all other devices, then change your password.

How Many Devices Will Netflix Let You Use Simultaneously in One Location?

That all depends on which plan you’re signed up for. Netflix offers four distinct price tiers, and the number of simultaneous streams varies on which tier you subscribe to.

Basic With Ads ($6.99 per Month)Basic ($9.99 per Month)Standard ($15.49 per Month)Premium ($19.99 per Month)
1 Device1 Device2 Devices4 Devices

These measures seem like cautious first steps to avoid a massive exodus of account-sharing users. If they do not meet Netflix’s expectations in curbing password sharing, harsher measures, such as charging users who continue to give out their login information, could follow. Netflix began testing methods to charge users $3 when someone outside the home accessed their account in several Latin American countries in 2022.

Fuck Netflix. The hassle for using the app on the go is even worse.

sounds borderline unworkable with the amount of asspain this entails for people traveling a lot

was thinking they pull this off being subscriber natural at worst, but now not so sure
