Well, it also acknowledges some rather ugly truths about that age that you don't really see talked about, so it's the merger of the two I think, the immaturity with pretty raw material. It's good, but I'm not sure if I'll pirate it when I eventually cancel netflix or if I'll just forget about it.

I'm not sure. I think i'd be ok with it.

It's not like it was in 1980, either. All the truly weird shit is all over the internet. And you know for a fact that kids are seeking it out and showing it to each other in an attempt to either gross each other out of form social networks. It's just what kids do since the invention of kids. It's not like they don't see it. And while S2 got egregiously political it's a wierd line that they're walking. Watching it I felt like they made fair arguments. They don't have to portray the counter argument. That's what the parent is supposed to do if they disagree.

And that's a genuine function that it serves, giving parents and their children a way to talk about sex without it being unbearably awkward. Because dude that shit has to be unbearably awkward even at the best of times. That's why I think it's sort of SUPPOSED to be sex ed.

Yeah I just don't know if kids need this type of "sex ed". Somehow, every previous generation has figured out how it all works, including ours. There's a difference between "sex ed", and cartoony representations of underage penises, giant talking vaginas, and bisexual pillow fucking.

I've had guys at work trying to deal with their teen daughters camwhoring and unabashedly bringing up anal sex "because it's no big deal". That shit is coming from somewhere, and this type of show doesn't help.

Again, I think its funny. Season 1 had me laughing out loud in ways South Park hasn't for years -- it's great adult entertainment, I just don't think it's good for young teens, because it's not just "educational", but pretty much glorifies all sorts of sex acts, without going into repercussions. Like the back and forth fucking the male and female pillow-- if you want to make it "educational", throw in some STD's.

Didn't their new Sabrina show also have some underaged lesbian shit in it? I'm thinking there was another show along the same lines too. This is the sort of context that matters when it comes to figuring out any potential motive.

Netflix Inc. shares plunged more than 10% in the extended session Wednesday after the video-streaming giant badly missed projections for new paid subscriptions.

Netflix reported the addition of just 2.7 million paid subscribers globally in the second quarter, far short of what Wall Street and the company expected. Analysts were looking for global paid streaming subscriber additions of 5.3 million, according to FactSet, on domestic additions of 350,000 and 4.8 million internationally. Netflix had projected 5 million new customers.

now that every company and their brother is starting their own streaming service, consumers are souring on them in general, even Netflix

Bud, porn is easier than ever to access, and you can probably find raunchier conversations during happenstance Twitch chat interaction than any TV show. The internet is the wild west and the shit teens have access to makes that Netflix show look like church.

My last 15 minutes:

"I'm in the mood for a mystery tv series. Time to load up Netflix"
Load Netflix Windows app
Scramble to hit the mute button on the autoplaying trailer
Squint to see the tiny hamburger symbol on the UI so I can dig around in that to find a way to just show TV shows
Look around and fail to find a way to show a specific genre as the windows app doesn't have this feature apparantly
Start clicking on shows that look like they might be along the lines of what I'm looking for
Find a few and check them out only to find they're all in foreign languages (I don't mind subtitles but I have to be in the mood for them)
Fail to find any way to know if a show is foreign language or not in the UI. Need to look at the cast names to guess
Say "fuck it" and load up the site in Edge
Repeat some of the same process and struggle to find anything that isn't foreign language, but at least this time I can see ahead of time... if I dig into the details screen for each one
Find one that looks promising and has rogue cop and san francisco as tags, so I start playing it only to be greeted by an Icelandic Cop Drama
Look at my recommendations and find kid's cartoons recommended because I watched The Death of Stalin
Search for half a dozen or so shows/movies on my "to watch" list and they have none of them.

The reason I liked Netflix to begin with: Because it was easy to use and hassle free. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But I am an old, apathetic North American that is not entertainment savvy and I am not sure what my future options will be when Netflix fails - because it will.

I cannot watch TV anymore, it angers me instantly. All of it. I can't even watch any sort of series, although I did get captured by Chernobyl. I watch movies and sports and that is it.

Crave is complete fucking garbage and I immediately regretted getting a 12 month subscription. Once I binged all the movies I wanted to see, new content has been complete shit and seem to be really left leaning stuff primarily. I want to try and watch Game of Thrones (I just finished the books) but, as stated earlier, can't get into a series this long.

So what are my options fam. Help an old, uneducated Canadian out.

you really need to be able to watch TV, movies are 95% crap nowadays and all the good writers work on TV shows

Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Mad Men
Deadwood
Rome
Black Sails
Spartacus (power through episode 1-2, its BAD but the show gets glorious)
The Expanse (amazon)
Battlestar Galactica
Babylon 5
Star Trek TNG, DS9, Voyager
Farscape
Curb your Enthusiasm
Brooklyn 99
Veep
True Detective season 1, 3
The Wire
The Good Place
Nathan For You
Ozark

I can think of maybe 4-5 movies I really enjoyed that were released in 2019 but the list of new TV shows that are great is way more hours

Good Omens (Amazon)
Catch-22 (Hulu)
Chernobyl
What we Do in the Shadows
Sex Education

I will grant you that more and more shows now are either super left wing, super feminist, or aimed squarely at teens which is all fine but totally uninteresting to me - Russian Dolls, Euphoria, Fleabag, etc. Still have hundreds of hours of stuff I never watched to catch up on. Hell, wife and I are binging on Friends and Office every night while its still on netflix.

It’s because we are to the point of paying more for the same content we had when everyone first started cord cutting. None of these dumb fucking network streaming services are worth getting, and outside of Netflix the only two content producers that can be successful with their own service are HBO and Disney. Networks like fox and cbs pulling al of their shit for their own streaming service is plain retarded, who’s going to pay for that shit

Yeah, who the fuck is going to spend $120/month to get streaming shit if they all split up into their own little pocketses of 1-2 good shows each. Say hello to pirates, you fucking fools.

That was the beauty of a netflix type service, one stop shop to all good shows. Then it was hulu, then HBO, now disney, and then AMC, and so on and on...Fuck them people. Its like they have not learned a thing from the piracy days.

Signing up for a few streaming services is still 1000x cheaper and 1000x better than cable. HBO on occasion. Starz on occasion. Cinemax on occasion.

For those that may not be aware, Amazon has HBO and Starz and Cinemax and a bunch of other providers under their channels section. All of them offer a free month. Easy to join and easy to cancel.

Back in the dizzay I was part of the "binge watch DVD series" that kick-started this whole "release a season all at once" and the onset of Mini-series movies instead of regular run time movies.

Sopranos, Nip/Tuck, Lost to name a few. Carnivale (why only two seasons you fucking hacks).......but at the end of that trend I started losing interest. I would watch a season or two and my wife would continue and I would play Titan Quest and half listen/half watch and then I would stop paying attention completely.

I lost interest in The Wire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad....I own all the Battlestar Gallactica on DVD and STILL have never watched the last season and a half. I am part of the problem I know.

I am going to try Deadwood, True Detective and Game of Thrones eventually. Maybe The Handmaid's Tale.

For me, it was them having the gall to make a show called "Dear White People." I'm so fucking sick of these racist companies making shit that attacks their primary subscriber base. Eat shit Netflix.
