yeah this is just an ultimate nepo baby speed running destroying billions of dollars of shareholder value, saying "whoopsie!" and retiring to his own pedo island with his daddy when it all falls apart

netflix works right now because tons of retards are subscribed to it and keep paying no matter what shit gets shoveled out. there is no other service like it. disney, apple TV, amazon prime, paramount+ (lol) all have fractions of the subs and netflix is still viewed as many as "the one to keep". paramount+ / peacock are a joke as far as numbers, and have zero global reach too. buying HBO shows does absolutely nothing to change the landscape in any way.

the future is even bleaker because kids are growing up on tik tok, twitch, live streaming not HBO and hour long dramas. Most can't even follow basic plots in hour long shows anymore, they are distracted by phones and would rather watch their fellow kids act like tards on stream than Peaky Blinders or Andor.

Its just gonna get worse and worse as the audience numbers needed require global audiences and they are all fighting for shrinking markets, similar to console gaming. The future is influencers, PC gaming, mobile gaming, and occasional big budget auter movies (Nolan, Gerwig, DenisV etc) not Game of Thrones.

i could see in a year or two netflix buying a massive online influencer brand and start streaming Mr Beast on Netflix or something equally crazy to drive sub growth, while Paramount will be stuck dealing with trying to pay off $100b in debt with a shrinking revenue base.

I saw an interview with Matt Damon I think about working with Netflix, and a requirement they had is to explain the plot 3-4 times during the movie because people are distracted by phones and need to be reminded so they can follow what's happening.

The sad part is that it probably make sense to be honest.

Netflix will be the long term winner - apparently they get close to 3 billion in compensation for the deal falling apart. I suspect paramount might have to start selling assets soon, regardless as to any hypothetical monopoly concerns (which I doubt will be pursued)

Saw a good number breakdown in comments: the $12B company is outbidding the $350B+ company so they can pay $111B, take on $33B of debt, and pay Netflix ~$3B for the privilege.
$24B will come from the Saudis.
